This might be a gross topic about skincare but I promise it will be helpful. For the longest time I've been wondering why do I get blackheads on my nose. I've tried blackhead strip, toner and mask. You name it! Despite my continuous effort to topically treat this problem I can't seem to get rid of them.
Here's the life-changing fact: They are not blackheads.

Sebaceous Filaments 101:

The little gray dots all over your nose are not blackheads. It's essentially a teeny tiny hair and maybe a mixture of sebum, bacteria and dead skin cells. Wider pores means more visible sebaceous filaments. It is impossible to completely get rid of them because you can't physically shrink the size of your pores. Though, you can diminish the appearance with proper skincare technique.

How to diminish sebaceous filaments?

1. Keep it clean. Unclog the pores by cleansing. Don't forget to wipe off makeup before you sleep.
2. Keep it plump. Even though our skin naturally produce moisture, you should still hydrate your ski. Hydrate your skin even if you have oily skin.
3. Exfoliate. This one is a little tricky to explain. You don't want to exfoliate your skin with a cleansing brush or scrub everyday. Instead, you could use a chemical exfoliant (AHA/BHA) to breakdown dead skin cell.
NOTE: if you don't have blackhead, you should stay away from the pore strips. It may be the quickest way to get sebum off your skins but in the long run pore strips can stretch your skin and even enlarge your pores. Once your pores are stretched, it'll be irreversible.
@petname83 That's good to know! Is the black sugar mask from clinique? I recently started using Lush's Mask of Magnaminty and so far it's been good for summer. I do think I need another mask for winter, so I might look into black sugar mask!
black sugar masks are great for a good deep cleanse and exfoliation. Clinique has a really good like to help minimize pores too. it's not drug store pricing, but it's not completely outrageous as far as pricing goes
@petname83 Thanks for the info!
but clinique has the pore solutions line, there's a charcoal mask, serum, cleanser, etc. my favorite is the stay matte pore refining hydration. really helps control oil, but gives my skin the moisture it needs to stay healthy and balancdd
@petname83 the black sugar mask is from Freeman, its a drugstore brand. I found it at Shopko.
