People always talk about how China's military is growing faster than the United States's and claim that soon, we will be in second place. First of all, if you look at the card I put up with the pie graph thats clearly not true. Second, China's economy is growing much much faster then its military buildup, so some increases in defense spending are only natural. This quote really sums it up: "But that's not yet reason enough for China's neighbors, or Washington, to see an explicit arms race where none currently exists. If predictions of an inevitable maritime war in Asia prove to be prescient, it may be because they had the character of self-fulfilling prophecies."
