6 Korean Olympians To Watch!

You know I can't WAIT for the Olympics so let's look at a few awesome Olympians representing South Korea :D

PS: 올림픽 - oh-lim-pik!

Ki Bo Bae - Archery

A South Korean archer who was ranked the world’s number one archer in August 2015. She is the current World Championship and the defending Olympic champion in archery.

An Chang Rim - Judo

South Korea’s premier lightweight Judo champion and the nation’s representative in the 2016 summer olympics. He is currently ranked first in the world and seeded first in the Olympics.

Kim Ji Yeon - Fencing

A South Korean sabre fencer and the 2012 Olympic champion. Having started foil fencing at the age of 13, she is the first South Korean woman to win a gold medal in fencing in the Olympic games.

Shin A Lam - Fencing

A fencer whose 2012 duel sparked a huge controversy in the Olympic games after a timekeeping error gave her opponent a timing advantage. When South Korea immediately appealed the decision, Shin waited for over an hour on the duelling ground, in accordance to the fencing bylaws, while judges deliberated and eventually gave the win to Shin’s opponent.

Son Yeon Jae - Rhythmic Gymnastics

An individual rhythmic gymnast, dubbed the “National Fairy” of South Korea. She has won titles in the 2014 Asian Games, 2010 Asian Games, and 2014 World Championships.
Calling it now: she's going to be the next Kim Yuna and have her face on EVERY advertisement lol!

I hope one day we'll see Jackson fencing in the Olympics...
I'm not a sports person but I like watching gymnastics (it used to be my dream to go to the Olympics for it) and some others. I think it's really cool about all these countries getting together like this.
I watched SK beat Fiji last night in soccer! It was a 7-0 shut down!

[Ladies' Week] Dara Torres - "Age is Just a Number"
So, @shannonl5 planned this awesome event, "Ladies' Week" (check out ~Announcing: Ladies' Week Event!~ just in case you haven't heard about it!). And in celebration of this awesome event, I wanted to start out with a female athlete that has inspired me: Dara Torres! Just in case you guys have never heard about Dara Torres, she is a former competitive swimmer who is also a twelve-time Olympic medalist and a former world record-holder in three events (50-meter freestyle, 4x100-meter freestyle relay, and 4x100-meter medley relay). But her medals and world records don't capture her whole story. There's more. Torres has competed in five different olympics: 1984 Los Angeles, 1988 Seoul, 1992 Barcelona, 2000 Sydney, and 2008 Beijing. That's right. Five different Olympics over the span of twenty-four years. She was 17 when she competed in her first ever Olympics and she took home a gold medal. She was 41 when she competed in her last one and took a silver medal home. Her life was definitely something you would not call perfect. She was already the oldest member on the U.S. swim team at the age of 33 during the 2000 Sydney Olympics. She could not get pregnant at the age of 35. She was divorced twice by the age of 37. She had her first daughter at the age of 39. Her father also passed away that same year. But as Torres put it perfectly, "But when I was 41 and I woke up in a dorm in the Olympic Village in Beijing, I didn’t feel old. I felt merely—and, yes, happily—middle-aged. ‘The water doesn’t know how old you are.’" For her, age was just merely a number and her dedication and passion for swimming gave her the courage to try out for the 2008 Summer Olympics despite the personal barriers she faced. Torres wasn't quite finished though. After the 2008 Olympics, she underwent a knee surgery, but jumped back in the pool as soon as she was ready to swim once again. And she competed in the U.S. swimming trials to earn a spot on the 2012 London Olympics team for the 50-meter freestyle. She however was denied a spot. Jessica Hardy won first place with 24.50 seconds and Kara Lynn Joyce took the remaining spot. Dara was nine-hundredths of a second behind her sixth Olympics. She was 45 at the time. Even though she did not make it for the 2012 Olympics, she had no regrets, because she gave everything she had. She simply hugged her daughter, Tessa, and congratulated her fellow swimmers. [Video: 2008 Beijing Olympics Women's 4x100 Freestyle Relay Final/Torres's Last Olympic Medal] She has been such an inspiration for me and people all around the world. We sometimes put a limit on ourselves without even giving our best shot. Torres however never, ever made any excuses and simply focused on achieving her goals. I would like to end this card with my favorite Torres quote: "You don't have to put an age limit on your dreams."

Types of 빙수: Korea's Favorite Summer Dessert!
Bingsu is a classic summer dessert in Korea and all you need to make it is shaved ice and toppings! Here are a few popular ones: Let's start with the classic - 팥빙수 pat-bing-su/Red Bean Shaved Ice! You might be thinking "beans?! on a dessert?!" but these are red beans! they're really sweet and delicious and used in many desserts and breads all over Asia. Next up, 멜론빙수! mel-lon-bing-su/ Melon Shaved Ice! Summer is the season of melon and its popular to get your shaved ice served to you with a half of a melon as the bowl! Delicious :) My personal favorite, 딸기빙수! ddal-gi-bing-su/StrawberryShaved Ice! Korean strawberries are incredibly sweet and when served as bingsu, its magical! this is always my favorite flavor! The irresitible 녹차빙수! nok-cha-bing-su/Green Tea Shaved Ice! You can never go wrong with a green tea dessert. Korea grows a lot of green tea so if you're lucky you're trying freshly made green tea products grown right in Korea! A summer MUST! 수박빙수! soo-bak-bing-su/Watermelon Shaved Ice! Korea is OBSESSED with watermelon in summer! You can get watermelon milk, watermelon juice, or even just watermelon on a stick all over Korea! So of course you have to try watermelon shaved ice! Mouth watering 오레오빙수! o-re-o-bing-su/Oreo Shaved Ice! Can anything taste bad when covered in oreos? Didnt think so :) A traditional taste - 인절미빙수! in-jeol-mi-bing-su/Injeolmi Shaved Ice! What's injeolmi? It's a kind of rice flour and rice cake! It is sort of bland but its a taste that grows on you :) The wonderful 흑임자빙수! heuk-im-ja-bing-su/Black Sesame Shaved Ice! I love black sesame! It is similar to peanut butter almost but a little weaker in taste. Dont let the color intimidate you - its delicious! Wake up with 커피빙수! keo-pi-bing-su/Coffee Shaved Ice! Coffee bingsu usually comes with a shot of espresso for you to pour over the ice. Eat fast before it melts! Last but not least... 토마토빙수! to-ma-to-bing-su/Tomato Shaved Ice! Cherry tomatoes are considered a dessert in Korea so you often see it on the dessert emnu. I haven't tried it but the picture is pretty at least! What flavor do you want to try?!
