Left 4 Dead 3 Rumors Confirmed?
From Andrew Dyce on Gamerant.com: "Over the years, Valve has built their reputation on knowing how to keep secrets – even going so far as to mislead fans to drive the point home: the future of franchises like Left 4 Dead, Half-Life and Portal are known only to them. But it now seems that the dogged determination of fans has finally won out, at least in the case of Left 4 Dead 3. After fans touring Valve’s offices snapped a photo of an open work station that included references to both Left 4 Dead 3 and Source Engine 2 – long rumored to be in development – it seems the reports have been corroborated, and it’s only a matter of time until the company makes an official announcement. The confirmation comes from Rock, Paper Shotgun, citing “multiple sources” from within the studio itself who have confirmed that the captured photo, and the task list pictured within, are accurate. In fact, one source even referred to the previous internal leak of both L4D3 and Half-Life 3 when questioned – but before anyone jumps to conclusions, the veracity of that report in regards to HL3 specifically are unconfirmed. So far, the source only claimed that report was “something worth looking at.” Left 4 Dead 3 Valve Leak Confirmed All things considered, it isn’t exactly shocking to hear that Left 4 Dead 3 is in development at the studio; after wildly successful releases and DLC support, the cooperative survival shooter seems a no-brainer for the near future. The confirmation of Source Engine 2, however, is a bit more intriguing. The studio had long maintained that due to the constant upgrading, tweaking, and fine-tuning of their core Source game engine, to ever refer to it as a numbered installment would be a bit misleading. But with this report, Valve has some explaining to do, if and when they announce a successor. Could it be related to the impending launch of next-gen console architecture? Or has the original Source Engine finally reached its potential? Most surprisingly, the willingness of multiple sources to confirm online reports is a bit uncommon for the studio. Their commitment to secrecy is usually company-wide, so could their willingness in this instance be a sign that an L4D3 announcement isn’t far off? Or could this be their most elaborate ruse yet? Be sure to leave your thoughts in the comments, and we’ll keep you updated as Valve responds to these rumors concerning Left 4 Dead 3 and Source Engine 2development."
