Hoseok POV
The whole time we’d been playing hide-and-seek, Rose hadn’t been spotted once. When Namjoon found Jungkook, we quickly gathered and started talking about how to trick Rose. Namjoon’s idea was to have Jimin discretely follow Rose to find her hiding spot. When he did, he would come out and inform Jungkook. Then, some of the boys would create a distraction allowing Jungkook to hopefully sneak up on her and tag her. Jin and I were supposed to wait at the edge of the clearing just in case she managed to outmaneuver Jungkook and hold her until he could tag her. Everything was going according to plan; Jimin had seen where Rose had gone and came back to inform Jungkook. Jungkook started towards Rose and Namjoon, Taehyung, and Yoongi went to the other side of the clearing. At my signal, they started yelling as if they had been found and were being chased.
A minute later, what I expected had happened. Rose had managed to get past Jungkook. I almost caught her, but when she looked back at me...I had never seen anyone so scared in my life. There were tears streaming down her face and she kept saying “I’m sorry, I’m sorry” over and over. I knew something was terribly wrong. “Noona, what’s wrong, what’s going on?” I started to get panicked. She ignored me as she continued to the blanket. I looked in direction Rose had come from. Did something happen to her? Did something happen to Jungkook?
Jin ran over to me. “What happened? What’s wrong?”
“I don’t know. You go find Jungkook, I’ll go after noona.” And then we both took off. By this time, Rose was already out of the clearing and I couldn’t see her anymore. I sprinted after her. By the time I reached the edge of the park, she was already at her car fumbling with her keys. Her eyes met mine for a second and I couldn’t tell if it was fear or panic that made her eyes so wide. She stooped down to pick her keys up again. She got in her car and I started yelling again.
“Noona! Stop! What’s wrong?!” I was running too fast and was unable to slow down before I slammed into the car. I tried for the door handle, but it was locked. I started pounding on the window. “Noona! What’s wrong?!” She wouldn’t look at me. “Noona! Noona!” Her hands were shaking violently as they finally managed to put the keys in the ignition. She started the car and I ran to the driver’s side window. “Noona! Open the door! Noona! Stop!” She put the car in reverse and then tore out of there. I stood there dumbfounded. {Where’re the keys? Damnit, Jin has them. Wait, Jin. Did he find Jungkook?} I ran back to the area where, just a few minutes ago, we had been enjoying a lazy Saturday.
Namjoon, Yoongi, Taehyung, and Jimin had gathered at the blanket. They started bombarding me with questions. “Wait a minute, okay?” I pleaded with them. “I don’t know what happened. All I know is that Rose took off looking absolutely terrified and I sent Jin to find Jungkook. Did anyone see them?” They all shook their heads and together we started running towards Rose’s hiding spot. At the edge, we ran into Jin who was carrying Jungkook on his back. Jungkook had tear stains on his face, but he wasn’t actively crying, in fact, beside from looking like he was in pain, he looked worried.
Jungkook’s breath was labored as he asked, “Where’s noona?” Then it was Jungkook’s turn to face the barrage of questions. Jin told them to wait until we got to the blanket. As we walked back, I pulled my phone out and called Rose. It kept ringing and then went to voicemail. I tried again and saw it sitting on the blanket. {Damnit}. In her hurry, Rose had forgotten her phone. I picked it up and looked at Jin.
“So what happened?” Yoongi asked in a panicked state. “And where did Rose-noona go? Why did she run like that? Why did she just take off without saying anything?!”
“Calm down, Yoongi.” Jin said as Taehyung and Jimin helped Jungkook to settle on the blanket. The poor kid was holding his stomach with one hand and his foot with the other. “Jungkook, when you can, please tell us what happened.” Jungkook nodded his head and took a few slow breaths.
“It was an accident—“
“What was?” Yoongi cut in.
“Hyung, give him a chance to talk.” Namjoon calmly said with a hand on Yoongi’s shoulder. “I think everyone should sit down.”
“How can I—“
“Just sit down,” Namjoon stated slowly. Namjoon was starting to get angry. Yoongi must have sensed that because he complied. “Now, Jungkook. Please continue. And no more interruptions.”
“I-I just meant to scare her, just a small scare. I didn’t know...I didn’t know that—that she would react like that. It-it’s my fault. I shouldn’t’ve...” Jungkook was babbling.
“It’s okay, Kookie.” Taehyung calmly rubbed Jungkook’s knee. “Just tell us. One thing at a time.”
Jungkook nodded and took a deep breath. “I-I actually passed where Rose was hiding at first. So that’s how I ended up behind her. She wasn’t paying attention, I think the yelling distracted her like it was supposed to. I know I was only supposed to tag her, but I don’t—I don’t know why I felt like I wanted to scare her. I just—I was just playing.” He was starting again.
“Then what happened?” Jimin prompted.
“I...I went up behind her. She—she never heard me...And I grabbed her. I was just messing around, but—“ he broke off. After a few more seconds, he continued. “She—I guess she must take some sort of self-defense classes because before I knew it, all the air was knocked out of my lungs. She stomped my foot and turned around like she was gonna punch me...but she didn’t. I looked up at her...and—the looked on her face...I didn’t mean to scare her like that...I’ve never seen anyone so terrified. I think—I scared her really bad. And then when she saw it was me...I—I don’t know if she was scared of me or scared because she hurt me...I—it’s my fault. She started to say she was sorry, but...she was so scared...She just ran.” He started crying again.
I looked at Yoongi. His lips were pressed into a straight line and he was leaning on crossed legs, his arms crossed also. Just looking at him, you would think he was relaxed, but I could see his fingernails digging into his arms. Then they relaxed. “Are you okay Jungkook?” Yoongi looked at the tearful boy with concern.
Jungkook hesitantly nodded his head. “I think this’ll bruise tomorrow,” he said indicating his stomach. “But,” he gestured to his right foot, “I don’t know if something’s broken or not.”
“Let’s get you to the hospital,” Jimin said as he asked Taehyung to help him load the younger boy onto his back.
“Let’s throw everything back into the bags for now, we’ll worry about cleaning up properly later. I’m gonna call Nina. She’ll know what to do about Rose,” Jin told us.
“She shouldn’t be driving...” Yoongi said, defeated. I understood how he felt. I loved her too and I hated that she was scared and, on top of that, she was driving in a dangerous state. I wanted to be there for her. But there was nothing we could do. Besides, Jungkook was supposed to be our priority. Once we got to the hospital...then we could see what happens from there.
The boys finished cleaning up. Jimin had already taken Jungkook to the car. We went to join them. While we walked back, I turned to Yoongi. “She’ll be ok. She’s tough. Nothing’s going to happen.” Yoongi looked at me. He already looked paler and sick. I wrapped my arm around his shoulder. At least I could understand him, if nothing else. He gave me a small and sad, but grateful smile.
Jin was talking to Nina and explaining everything that happened while Namjoon drove us to the hospital. Jungkook kept periodically asking if we thought Rose was okay. I don’t think he wanted an answer. In fact, I don’t think he even realized he was saying it. He was such a sweet, loving kid. He was in pain, but he was still worried about Rose. He must’ve felt so guilty.
“Nina’s coming back right now. She said it’ll take her a few hours, but she’ll head straight to the house to check on Rose. She’ll text us to let us know how Rose is doing as soon as she can.”
“Did she anything about Rose? Like why she panicked like that?” Taehyung asked. Jungkook listened expectantly.
“Sorry. She just said it wasn’t her place. That she had already told us more than Rose would be comfortable with.”
“But did you—“
“She said she knows what happened,” Jin cut Jimin off, “but that it’s something Rose has to tell us when she’s ready. If she’s ever ready. Nina said that knowing Rose, she’s probably putting all the blame on herself. And since she hurt Jungkook, she’s probably hating herself right now. She said she’ll have to talk to her to know more, but probably what’ll happen is Nina will have to spend a while trying to convince Rose to talk to us again. But not because you scared her,” this he directed at Jungkook, “but because of her reaction. She said she doesn’t know how to explain it any better over the phone, but that once she’s able to talk to Rose, she’ll come for her phone and try to explain better. Also, she hopes that nothing’s broken. She said she’s been in some of the defense classes with Rose so she knows how hard she hits.” Jungkook smiled a little at that.
In the rearview mirror, I saw Namjoon switching his attention between driving and checking on Yoongi. I caught his attention and nodded towards Yoongi, letting him know that I would take care of it.
Yoongi POV
I stared out the window as we made our way to the hospital. I felt sick to my stomach. Of course I was concerned for Jungkook, but I also felt guilty that I was more concerned about Rose. That’s not how it should be. We’re supposed to look out for each other first before we worry about our romantic interests. It was one of the rules we had. We could date as long as it didn’t cause trouble for BTS as a whole or any member individually. But I couldn’t help it. Rose had left her phone, so there was no way to call her and I needed to go with Jungkook to the hospital. {Our manager’s gonna kill us because Jungkook got hurt. I hope he tells him it was an accident. If he says Rose did it...}
I was lost in my thoughts until I felt Hoseok lightly shake my leg. I turned away from the scenery flashing by and looked at him. “Hyung,” was all he said, but his tone of voice said more. He was concerned for me. If he loved Rose even half as much as I did, then I knew he had to know how I felt. I attempted to give him a reassuring smile, but even to me it seemed forced. He didn’t look well. Yeah, he definitely knew how I felt. I looked up at Namjoon who I knew had to feeling something similar. He kept his eyes on the road, but he was gripping the steering wheel so tightly that his knuckles were white. I saw him look in the rearview mirror, then his eyes met mine before immediately looking away.
Our manager met us at the back of the hospital along with a nurse and a wheelchair. It made me think back to when we brought Rose to the hospital. The nurse guided down an almost empty path to a room where they asked Jungkook to change. The doctor informed us that they would be taking an x-ray of his foot and an x-ray and MRI of his abdomen. When the doctor left, our manager immediately started asking us what happened. Jungkook explained an edited version of what had happened. In this version, it was simply a collision between Rose and Jungkook. When he asked why Rose wasn’t with us, Jin told him that while we all were on the way, she received an emergency call from her roommate and had to leave. Fortunately our manager took it at their words. The biggest factor was that Jungkook and Jin were never the type to lie. I think Rose would’ve felt worse if she knew that they did.
During the next couple hours, I held onto Rose’s phone. We told the manager that when she got the call, some of us had been in the car with her. So, during the switch to the van, it had somehow gotten mixed up in our stuff. Her phone was locked so I couldn’t do anything on it, not that I would, but I kept looking at the picture on her lock screen. It was a picture from the amusement park. During lunch, the GOT7 guys asked us to take a picture of them and her, which we obliged. She had us take one on her phone too. Then she asked them to take one of us and her. That latter was the picture on the lock screen. Rose was smiling so brightly... I didn’t want to think of that smile disappearing...
Finally, the doctor came back with the results. Jungkook’s abdomen was fine, no organs were injured, and his foot only had a fracture on one metatarsal plus some visually obvious popped blood vessels. Apparently, by Rose wearing rubber-soled tennis shoes, the damage was down to a minimum versus if she had been wearing wedges or heels that most girls would usually wear. He was lucky. And so were we. If the damage was minimal, maybe Rose would feel less guilty. I hoped...
The doctor told Jungkook to keep the foot in a soft cast for now and to use crutches in order to keep the fracture from worsening until it could heal. Afterwards, we went back to the dorm and waited for Nina to call. At ten o’clock, there was a knock on the door. Taehyung jumped up, looked through the peephole, and opened the door. Nina walked in. There was a clamor as the boys rushed to her.
“Sit down, sit down,” she yelled over them. Jin directed her to one of the couches. “One thing at a time. How’s Jungkook?”
“I’m fine. Just a small fracture on one toe. That’s it,” Jungkook answered.
Good, good. That’ll be easier for her then.”
“What does that mean?” Hoseok asked.
“Namjoon?” Namjoon nodded his head, agreeing to be translator again. “Rose is... she’s in bad shape right now. She couldn’t stop crying and shaking...I had to give her something to calm down. Actually, I gave her a lot of something in order for her to sleep. She needed to.”
“Wh—what—how is—I mean,” I couldn’t even put a sentence together. Nina looked at me and gave me a reassuring smile.
She’ll be okay. Of course, the whole covering her mouth and lifting her off the ground sent her into panic mode,” we all looked at Jungkook who was looking down guiltily, “but I don’t think that’s her biggest problem. She hates herself for hurting you.” Nina looked at Jungkook. “It’ll probably be easier for her to deal with it since the damage wasn’t that bad but...she kept saying over and over ‘I almost killed him’... Rose is trained in self-defense...and I can’t say very much, but she said...she said she thought someone was trying to take her. And—and all she could think to do was—throwing the first punch. I’ve taken some of the same classes. And one thing they drill into us is if someone tries to take us like that, elbow to the solar plexus, heel-stomp their foot, and palm-thrust to the nose. And that last one either results in a broken nose or, if powerful enough, death.”
I think the thought that she could’ve killed you is eating her up. Rose...she really loves you guys like family. She’s slowly taken you into her very small circle. And since she almost did that, especially to the one she’s told me is the most innocent of all of you...it’s hurting her. She can’t forgive herself.” My chest was so tight, I didn’t know how I was able to breathe. “And...she’s afraid of your questions...about why she acted like that, why she’s taken so much self-defense classes, and the inevitable, what happened to her to make her like that. She’s scared that you won’t be able to accept her... That’s all I can say.” {What could she possibly think we couldn’t accept? She wouldn’t kill someone, so why does she feel like that?}
I’ll try to keep talking to her, to convince her to let you see her, but it won’t be easy. I don’t know if it’s even at all possible. I called Julie to take her off for the next few weeks. And I can’t imagine her leaving the house for that time. But don’t come over. I’ll keep you guys updated, but I can’t let you in. If I do that, I think she’ll just crawl further into her shell. So give her space. You can message her, but try to leave it to only a few a day. Any more would probably be overwhelming. I’ll let you know when you can come over, okay?” The thought that she was suffering so much was killing me. And the thought that she might not want to see us again... I wouldn’t be able to take that. I would give her time, of course, but if she decided that she couldn’t tell us, that she couldn’t see us... I couldn’t allow that. Even if she ended up dating Namjoon or Hoseok or even someone else in the future, I thought I could stand that, as hard as it would be, as long as I could see her. I’d never felt like this before and it kind of scared me.
So here's the chapter. Poor Kookie feels so guilty. And poor Yoongi and Hoseok. I wonder if they'll all be able to make up...

Well that was depressing....now all the boys feel terrible. Maybe Nina will realize Rose needs one of the boys.

Nina knows Rose has gotten good quality sleep when Yoongi has been there, so hopefully she'll have him or Kookie go over first. The boys can't overwhelm her now, so one or two at a time will be all she can handle for a bit. Yoongi may be the most soft spoken so he'd be a good first choice.....and she needs to see that Kookie is Okay. Plus, Kookie needs to see her or he's going to continue to feel guilty.
