Finally! Got to B.A.P! Enjoy!
The music starts, and I begin dancing like I’ve never danced before. Not sure what it was, but I felt like I was possessed by all the great dancers before me. I don’t even remember dancing, it was one of those times.
Next thing I know, the music stops, and I’m in my final position, breathing hard and covered in a sheen of sweat. I hear clapping, and more voices than were in the room when I started. I stand up to bow respectfully, and notice one of the panel members has a Skype cam running. Studying it closer, I realize it’s Yongguk, Jongup and Zelo of B.A.P! I wonder where the others are, but that thought doesn’t stick for long.
They’re speaking, and I’m in yet another moment where I’m grateful to understand Korean, because they’re saying good things! The panel looks conflicted, one person seems like they don’t want me, and another looks ready to sign me. B.A.P seems to be agreeing with the latter.
“Has she sang yet?” Yongguk speaks up.
“No, we haven’t worked vocals, but we have heard her singing quietly under her breath.”
“And? Does it sound decent? What training has she had?” Zelo quips.
“Sounds good, but she becomes tight lipped whenever someone gets close. As for training, only her school choir, I think.”
"Well then, can you get her to sing?”
“Um, I haven’t warmed up, so I’m not so sure that’s a good idea.”
Their heads whip up to look at me, shocked I said that.
“I can understand you guys, I still haven’t been able to speak Korean. And my apologies, I didn’t mean to be rude at all.”
“Ok, knowing you can understand us and we can understand you, we’re going to warm up and you’re going to sing.” Ah Jongup, I’d recognize my bias’ voice anywhere.
“Ok, what warmups are we going to do?”
“We’ll start off with basic B flat scale, then do G and D major. Know those?”
“Yup, basic scales.”
We ran through them in no time, since they’re basic scales like I said. Now it was time to sing. Except I have no clue what to do.
Butterfly, sing butterfly. You know it so well. Thank you subconscious me. For remembering the one song that shows the full range of what I can do.
“Can I sing Butterfly by BTS?”
“Yeah, I mean, we are throwing you into this without knowing the audition song. So go for it. If you want, pull up a karaoke version.”
I rushed to my phone, pulling up the karaoke I downloaded. Someone from the panel came over to help me plug it into the speaker, and I began to hum a little bit. Eventually, it loaded, and I had to sing.
While I was singing, I kept looking down. I had zero confidence, because never in my wildest dreams did I imagine B.A.P would be watching my dance audition, much less be asking me to sing after I danced. My gaze never went towards the panel, but instead outside to where I was hoping Jung Nam was. As the high notes got closer, I felt my nerves increase. It’s a hit or a miss, and I was praying to every music god I could think of to hit that note. And I did. This overwhelming sense of relief filled my body, and I knew something good had happened.
When the last note echoed through the room, I peaked out my peripheral vision, and Jung Nam was standing there, beaming with joy. The panel was sitting in their seats speechless, and Yongguk, Jongup, and Zelo had these grins on their faces.
Yongguk broke the silence.
“Sign her now, and make her the first member of our sister group.” A click signaled they had hung up.
Now that, was unexpected.
Hope you guys enjoyed!
Love you guys! ~Elayne
