The first drama I shall cover is called "You're Beautiful" There are 3 known versions of this drama... The original is Korean and it's title is "You're Beautiful"... Then there is the Japanese version titled "Ikemen Desu Ne" which means "You're Handsome"... And lastly there is the Taiwanese version called "Yuan Lai Shi Mei Nan" or "Fabulous Boys"... Each version regardless of its language has the same plot... There is a set of twins, one boy and one girl... They were orphaned at a young age and were raised by nuns... We learn that the girl is now studying to become a nun and her brother is off trying to become a star... He gets an offer to join the world wide famous AN Jell band... All is well until it comes to light that her brother is overseas with surgery and his manager has come to her and to beg her to become her brother while he is over seas so that he can be signed on... A once in a life opportunity... Her brother wanted to become a star so as to find their mother... This makes it that she now has to live as a boy with the other 3 members of AN Jell in a dorm... Of course pretending to be a girl whilst living with 3 boys comes with its risks... It is a really cute drama no matter the origin of its cast...
SOURCE In the Korean version we are gifted with the acting and voices of 3 very handsome Kpop stars... As well as my personal all time favorite Korean Actress... Her voice is no joke either which is why I am surprised she doesnt sing as well... Go Mi-nam/Mi-nyeo; the girl/her brother, vocalist of AN Jell is played by Park Shin-hye (Oh Hee-joon steps in as the body double when she plays as the real Go Mi-nam) Hwang Tae-kyung; the leader, main vocalist and guitarist of AN Jell as well as main male lead is played by solo artist Jang Geun-suk Kang Shin-woo; bassist, rapper and keyboardist of AN Jell as well as second male lead is played by CN Blue's Jung Yong-hwa The ever hilarious and funny Jeremy; vocalist and drummer of AN Jell is played by FT Island's Lee Hong-ki
SOURCE In the Japanese version we are gifted with the acting and voices of 3 very handsome Jpop stars... I want to add that I am a fan of both Kis-My-Ft2 and Hey! Say! JUMP... Sakuraba Mio/Miko (Japanese equivalent to Go Mi-nam/Mi-nyeo); the girl/her brother, vocalist of AN Jell is played (the body double when she plays as the real Mio was not credited so I am unable to say who it was) by (sadly disbanded) SweetS' Takimoto Miori Katsuragi Ren (Japanese equivalent to Hwang Tae-kyung); the leader, main vocalist and guitarist of AN Jell as well as main male lead is played by Kis-My-Ft2's Tamamori Yūta Fujishiro Shu (Japanese equivalent to Kang Shin-woo); bassist, rapper and keyboardist of AN Jell as well as second male lead is played by Kis-My-Ft2's Fujigaya Taisuke The ever hilariously sexually confused (they played this bit up more in the Japanese version which I am pleased about) Hongo Yuuki (Japanese equivalent to Jeremy); vocalist and drummer of AN Jell is played by Hey! Say! JUMP's Yaotome Hikaru (I LOVE HIKARU!!! I love him, I love him, I love him!!!)
Also Jang Geun-suk makes a cameo appearance in this version!!! If you truly want to know it is in Episode 8... To be completely honest though, how alike Geun-suk and Yūta's facial features are astounds me... They really casted the right guy to be Tae-kyung/Ren... I was pleased with how physically similar all 4 of the main cast members were to the Korean cast...
SOURCE In the Taiwanese version has some Mandopop artists I am not well familiar with since I am not really familiar with any of the cast but I think they did a wonderful job!!! Gao Mei Nu/Mei Nan (Taiwanese equivalent to Go Mi-nam/Mi-nyeo); the girl/her brother, vocalist of AN Jell is played (again the body double when she plays as the real Gao Mei Nu was not credited, I am sorry) by solo artist Lyan Cheng Huang Tai Qing (Taiwanese equivalent to Hwang Tae-kyung); the leader, main vocalist and guitarist of AN Jell as well as main male lead is played by Fahrenheit's Jiro Wang Jiang Xin Yu (Taiwanese equivalent to Kang Shin-woo); bassist, rapper and keyboardist of AN Jell as well as second male lead is played by Hwang In Deok The ever hilarious and funny Jeremy (they kept the original name of Jeremy); vocalist and drummer of AN Jell is played by solo artist Evan Yo
Again as in the Japanese version, the Taiwanese version has a cameo appearance of someone from the original version... This time it's my favorite actress of all time, Park Shin-hye... She appears as her own counterpart Go Mi-nyeo from the original version in episode 1... SIGH, Shin-hye unnie is SOOO pretty and cool!!!
I have to say to say which of these 3 versions is my favorite would be really hard to say since there were things I both liked and disliked in each version... In order to properly assess them this way I would have to rewatch the Taiwanese version since I havent watched it in 3 and 1/2 years... I have to be honest and say that aside from their superb acting I was kinda disappointed in the cast for the Taiwanese version... Only because they didnt really look anywhere similiar to either the Korean or Japanese counterparts... Just a slightly small disappointment... I do remember liking that the Taiwanese version added something interesting that the other 2 didnt but I cant remember what it was... After I rewatch the Taiwanese version (I own the Korean and Japanese versions and rewatch them frequent enough) I will post my assessment of each of their differences and why I liked and disliked each difference... I recommend watching this drama, whether you watch it in Korean, Japanese or Taiwanese... If you like funny romantical dramas with hints of family angst you are sure to like this drama!!! I am a bit biased when it comes to the Korean and Japanese versions but its because I am a huge fan of Park Shin-hye, Jang Geun-suk, Lee Hong-ki, Kis-My-Ft2 and Hey! Say! JUMP (BIGGEST fan of Hikaru Yaotome!!!)...
