In the beginning the members of 2PM started an eleven-member band known as One Day. ON a documentary titled “HOT BLOOD MEN” which captured their training day. Eventually the band was split into 2PM, and a similar ballad group known as 2AM.
Since their debut in 2008, 2PM has remained one of the core groups in the K-pop scene
At the time of their debut, 2PM became known for their acrobatic performances and beastly physiques. Over the years, the group has matured and have struggled to maintain in the kpop scene after 8 long years without a leader
All the members of 2PM auditioned (except Nichkhun who was scouted) to become part of JYP Entertainment
Half the members had previously experience, Jun.K was in many singing competitions.
Taecyeon,Junho and Chansung had all participated in SuperStar Survival
While most kpop boy bands back then adopted a "pretty boy"
image, 2PM was made to be a tough and macho beast-like image when they made their debut.
By emphasizing their masculine images, 2PM created the "jimseung-dol" (jimseung 짐승
means an animal or beast in Korean) .
Jay Park was chosen to be the group's leader, as he was the oldest member and also the one all the other members acknowledged as the most talented one.
He played key roles in several of the band's early singles and associated music videos.
2PM debuted with the song "10 Points Out of 10 Points" which showcased their acrobatic dance styles
later on that year they promoted “Only You” although there was still dancing it was more on the slower side
Unfortunately in the mist of their success they were hit with a controversy
articles were written on the internet regarding Jay’s posts from his personal Myspace account, in which he expressed his dislike for Korea while still a trainee at JYP The posts, leaked by a netizen who hacked his Myspace account, were taken out of context and severely misinterpreted by the Korean media.
Although Jay issued an apology some neitzen’s demanded that Jay be forced out of 2PM, JYP CEO Park Jinyoung stated that Jay would remain in the group.[
The following day, Jay announced that he would leave the group and return to the US for a while to calm the situation.. At the same time, he apologized to his fellow band members for not being a good leader and older brother for them. He also promised to come back as a better person.
It was later confirmed that 2PM would continue on as a six-member group.
Despite all this 2PM continued with success. With 6 Korean Albums and 5 Japanese ones
They won various awards including The Golden Disk Award for 1:59,
2 Melon Awards, And 4 MAMA awards from 2009-2014
As you can see the differences Between performing Again & Again from their debut to recently are drastic. The acrobatics were gone, the atmosphere was less playful, and the distribution of the parts had to be changed. Not only had they grown up, but they had to learn to continue without a leader
On Sept. 11th Gentlemen's Game is the sixth Korean studio album. (eleven overall) and MV was released with seven of the 11 songs written by the members
The album has topped charts all over the world, including iTunes charts in Thailand, Taiwan, Indonesia and Singapore.
And Jay? he went on to become the most successful CEO of his own Hip Hop Label AOMG ("Art of Movement") along side Simon D.
Gray (Singer, Record Producer & Rapper)
Ugly Duck (Rapper)
DJ Wegun (DJ)
DJ Pumkin (DJ)
Cha Cha Malone (Producer & Dancer)
Seven studio albums and 1 mixtape has shot him to the top of the Korean Hip Hop game and the respect of the underground rap scene
I've always wanted to share this
2PM performed at and was honored at the MAMAS with awards for Best Male Group and Artist of the Year in 2009
(BTW they’re crying because they are talking about Jay and how they wish he was there to accept that award with them)
During the performance of Again & Again a spotlight shone over Jay’s usual position, and his vocals played over the speakers without being replaced
(skip to 4:11 if you wish to see that performance)
Hope this card was just a tiny bit insightful and fun to read.
