Justice Fail ~ D. James Breaux
Dr. King spoke
America heard
But it did not listen
And The Dream
The Dream
Was not instated
Instead it was hated
They killed the dream
Its value berated
And never translated
It’s time for the dream
To be reinstated
Not underestimated
Injustice anywhere
Is a threat to justice everywhere
And still to this day we've gotten nowhere
Still hesitating to go there
To help fix this Nation in disrepair
To bring The Dream
Back from the nightmare
So we can all live as one
And breathe the same air
Under the same sun

Where equal justice applies to everyone
Where America’s black youth
Where America’s black men and women
Aren't shot down in the street
Staring down the barrel of a cops gun
For something they ain't done
And until the battle gets won
There’s no rest for anyone
Cause we got to fix what's undone

But when do we start
But how do we start
But where do we start
But but but
Said the rhyme
To the reason

We can start
By loving each other
Now
Not someday
Today

We can start
By helping each other
Now
Not someday
Today

We can start
By working with each other
Now
Not someday
Today

We can start
By changing the laws
That protect the culture of evil
And the institution of Racism
And the system of unfairness
That victimizes the innocent
That oppresses the mighty
That holds down the strong
Now
Not someday
Today

We can start
By teaming together in America
To effect change in America
To impact public policy in America
Drafted by the leaders in America
So we can all live in America
So our youth can survive in America
And we can all be proud of America
Now
Not someday
Today

We can start
By abolishing the Prison-Industrial Complex
Where prisons are private corporations
That profit from lockup quotas
Where taxpayers must pay for empty beds
When crime rates fall below quota
Where one man’s ruined life
Is a senator’s livelihood
Now
Not someday
Today

We can start
By urging Criminal Justice Reform
By having strength and faith
Together as one
To effect lasting change
To impact hearts and minds
Of every person
Of every color
With a mighty impact
Now
Not someday
Today

We can start
By being the America
America was intended to be
With unalienable rights
Life liberty and pursuit
Of happiness for All
Not some
Of equality for All
Not some
Of justice for All
Not some
Now
Not someday
Today

We can start
By empowering one another
Because life is too short to waste time
With small minded negativity
Let us embrace positivity
By lifting each other up
Higher than before
Reinstate The Dream once more
Now
Not someday
Today

Now
Not someday
Today
