Brian Cooper Los Angeles, California Brian Cooper’s work begins with a set of assumed rules or perspectives which the artist establishes only to break repeatedly. There are surreal sculptural dimensions to Cooper’s paintings in his attention to implied volumes—many of them irrational or physically impossible—and yet there is something classic in his work too. Cooper’s paintings marry the palette and subtlety of pre-Renaissance Flemish and Italian painters to the abstract compositional frenzy of 20th century artists such as Wyndham Lewis, Lee Mullican and Theo Von Doesburg. Cooper received his MFA from USC.
