Love Myself or You? aka Pleasantly Surprised

Plot from Wiki:
Du Kai Qi (Puff Guo ) is an aspiring young chef, her only interests are cooking and reading manga comics. She doesn't have many friends and doesn't want anymore. After enjoying her most delicious full course meal prepared by a chef named Louis, she snaps a picture of his signature from the plate and request to meet him. However, a family emergency forces her to leave before meeting Louis. She looks to Louis's signature as strength and inspiration for her upcoming sous chef promotion test. On the day of her test the new restaurant intern Ah Jie (Jasper Liu), who has to decide the winner, chooses Kai Qi's rival dish over hers. Losing out on her promotion, Kai Qi makes instant enemies with Ah Jie. What she doesn't know is Ah Jie is her boss's son, her new next door neighbor, the chef Louis that she admires so much and her long lost childhood friend Fu Zi Jie who she had a close bond with.
The once cheerful and happy Du Kai Qi has grown up to be a cold, fierce and isolated person due to her harsh upbringing. Her father is a money asking, alcoholic and abusive person. Even though both of her parents have been separated for many years, her father still harasses and abuses her mother for money. With so many difficulties in her life, it has made her liked to be left alone. Kai Qi works as an assistant chef at "Figaro Cuisine", a fancy French restaurant owned by her mother's former employer. At Figaro's, it brings her pleasant memories of her childhood when both she and her mother had their most delicious meal there. Knowing how happy that meal made her mother feel, it drives her to become an accomplished chef hoping to provide a better life for her and her mother. Already struggling financially, she is forced to take in her young nephew when his father abandons him to get remarried.
Why I liked this drama:
The characters evolve with the show and grow show much. They become very 3 dimensional and help the show go at a steady pace. It is definitely a romantic comedy and has it adorable moments but then it also has those moments that make you cry. I really liked how the main female lead decided to become a chef after she and her mother was shown kindness by a simple meal. I really enjoyed all the food they showed and made on the show and what really piqued my interest was how much all the supporting cast made the show seem so much more full and robust.
I give it 5 out of 5 monster talons.

It's no surprise that manga is popular around the globe. In fact, many dramas get their inspiration from manga series. 4 Taiwanese Dramas Remade into Korean
I was talking to @cindystran recently about how I've only seen one Taiwanese drama ever, but it looks like I'll have to dive into that world soon! Check out these 4 Taiwanese drama that have Korean counterparts! 1. Fated to Love You Taiwanese version: Starring Joe Chen and Ethan Juan. This Taiwanese drama came out in 2008, and it broke rating records. Korean version: Starring Jang Na Ra, Jang Hyuk and Choi Jin Hyuk. The series reunited Jang Hyuk and Jang Na Ra. Plot: Making a mistake after having way too many drinks can change everything. Lee Gun is the successor to a large company run by his family. Kim Mi Young is an average-looking secretary in a law firm who earned the nickname “Post-It” for her inability to say no to her colleagues who dump work on her. When the two cross paths one night after having too much to drink, they end up having a one-night stand. When Mi Young finds out afterwards that she is pregnant, what will become of them? 2. My Queen Taiwanese version: starring Ethan Juan and Cheryl Yang. And it was awarded the Best Channel Advertising at the 44th Golden Bell Awards. Korean version: named "Witch's Romance". starring Uhm Jung Hwa and Park Seo Joon. Plot: Two hard working people who have lost love in their lives meet and despite the age difference, they find a lot in common with each other, including their scarred hearts. 3. In Time With You Taiwanese version: Starring Ariel Lin, Chen Bolin and Sunny Wang. "Li Daren" probably will be the most ideal prince in every girl's dream. Korean version: The name of this Korean drama will is The Time We Were Not In Love with Ha Ji Won and Lee Jin Wook . Plot: Oh Ha-Na and Choi Won are both 34-years-old. They have been friends for 17 years. Oh Ha-Na is currently a career woman with an honest and confident personality. Choi Won works as an assistant purser for an airline. He has always helped Oh Ha-Na whenever she got into trouble. Will Oh Ha-Na and Choi Won find love? 4. Absolute Boyfriend Taiwanese version: Starring Jiro Wang and Gu Hye Sun. Consider how cute and pretty this couple is; you don't want to miss it. Its about an adorable girl who is consistently seeking for love but always has a lack of luck...so she has one custom made. Korean version: There have been rumors about Absolute Boyfriend being remade into a Korean drama for a really long time. There is a Japanese version though!!! Plot: Riiko Izawa has never had a boyfriend and she has been rejected by every boy she has ever had a crush on. When she returns a lost cell phone to an oddly dressed salesman, she mentions wanting a boyfriend. To thank her, he directs her to his company's website, Kronos Heaven. When she visits the site, Riiko finds it's a site to create your perfect lover. Thinking it's a game, she customizes and accidentally orders one. The next day, her new lover arrives.

Korean TV, This Is Just Getting Ridiculous
So by now we all know about Produce 101. In case you don't, though, here's a short breakdown: There have been two seasons on MBC (one for girls, one for boys) that takes 101 trainees and puts them through tests and voting until only a certain number remain and they create a new idol group (for a short period of time, then they go back to their original companies. The channel KBS is preparing to take it to the next level. The company is preparing a show currently called "The Final 99 Match" that will take performers that have had the chance to debut, but never found success. There are plenty of idol groups (unfortuately called "nugus") that have never really succeeded. Ideally, this show is where they get a chance to join a new group and get a shot at fame. That's sort of normal and understandable, but this is where it gets absolutely ridiculous. There reportedly will be 250 BOYS AND 250 GIRLS competing. 9 of each gender will survive and be placed into groups (number of groups have not been decided) I understand that idol TV shows are getting popular, much like how American Idol in the States led to The X Factor, The Voice, America's Got Talent, etc etc etc. But 500 people?! When they've already survived the harsh kpop audition and training system to debut? That must be so heartbreaking for all of them. I'd feel less bad if they were complete rookies with zero training but dang, to already debut...its like NU'EST being in Produce 101 right now. So sad for the fans :/ I wish everyone luck and hope it changes some lives for the better but I have a feeling this competition is going to be a heart ache. What do you guys think? source

[Before K-Drama] Boys Over Flowers!
It's time for another "Before K-Drama" where we talk about what dramas were originally (webtoon, manga, book, etc) I'm pretty sure you all have heard of this little drama: Boys Over Flowers: It is based on Japanese manga Hana Yori Dango (花より男子) written by Yoko Kamio. There have been Japanese, Taiwanese, Indian, and, of course, a Korean remake! Most of them have had not only drama versions but also full length films! (It's called Meteor Garden in Taiwanese!) The Korean version, "Boys Over Flowers," is usually people's first K-drama and if you haven't seen it then you've definitely heard of it t least once! (Also, I don't know why Jan-di's legs are cut off in this photo hahaha) I actually watched Hana Yori Dango (the Japanese remake) completely by accident! My parents were trying to get me my first ever Korean DVD for Christmas and sort of failed ;P But it ended up being a good thing! They thought they got me Boys Over Flowers, but they got me the movie version of Hana Yori Dango! And it was sooo good! (Like, cheesy Japanese drama good, so...hahah) I haven't watched the drama yet though :D I haven't seen Meteor Garden (the Taiwanese version) either even though this was the first drama version of the manga! Which of these have you seen or read!? and if you havent seen any... Tagging my "Before K-Drama" folks! @merryjayne13 @Yongsongmi @Kamiamon @CreeTheOtaku @chongx @RaquelArredondo @KellyOConnor @Msrayray95 @drummergirl691 @netchtiBates @Lizzeh @PamelaPenaloza @Priscilla @biancadanica98 @petname83 @JamiMilsap @juniholtgrewe @sosoaloraine23 @sherrysahar @KiraHitomi @TLeahEdwards @shananunezl1234 @IMNII @SarahIvester
