-What is Nanowrimo
-What my experience was
-How is it helpful?
Nanowrimo is basically a challenge to see if you can write a whole novel in a month. It sounds horrible right? Like why the hell would someone want to do that to themselves? You just go to www.Nanowrimo.org, and then sighn up with the page and make and account. Then every day you can update how many words you'be written, and keep track of your progress through the site.
I did this for a class I was taking, and let me tell you. It is not all it's cracked up to be. It's hard as a writer to just tell yourself to keep writing. It seems easy strategy wise to just tell yourself to write 2,000 words everyday, because most writers write everyday anyways. It's the fact of being able to make yourself realize that it is all just a shitty rough draft, and you just have to keep going.
When i did it, I'm going to be honest with you. I did not do as well as I could have if I would have focused more on writing and not so much on story. Also, since I am in college I had papers to write since I'm in two other English classes and I obviously love seeing myself suffer immensly. It's not a college semester if you're not struggling, and wondering why the hell you even applied for these classes other than you're major required them. So you're here.
I guess, all in all since it was for a class I didn't really take it as seriously as I should have, because in all honesty. This is a really great thing for someone who does have alot of novels that they're working on. You can use it to see what your creative mind has pictured for this story. Because there's no such thing as having to re-write things. It's inevitable. You're going to write something, and feel like you hate all of it. Writing a rough draft while you're thinking of what the plot you want to be, is a great way to build those rode maps and get to know those characters that you've been working with, and helps make for a better novel.
Plus, It gives you a deadline. I've heard a lot of people say that they write their best work under pressure. I am not one of those people, because of my anxiety, but their is a lot people I feel would benefit from doing something like this. All in all, If you feel like you want to write a novel, and you're taking to long with it. Do Nanowrimo, it will help you in the long run. If you have any questions about it then message me, or comment below, and remember....keep writing.
