Last night SBS's Gayo Daejun took place with a stellar all-star line up of artists taking the stage. This was the 20th anniversary of the annual music festival, with many special stages planned to celebrate the occasion. Unfortunately, the show was riddled with technical difficulties and errors.
Cube Entertainment's lead (and highly underrated) boy group BTOB got the shortest end of the stick when their performance of "I'll Be Your Man" was over run with issues. Fans and Netizines alike are upset at not only the large number of issues between the cameras, sound and technical execution of their performance, but also at the blatant lack of respect given to the group by SBS.
Fans at the live show who watched the broadcast noted that half of BTOB's performance was cut from the Television broadcast, HALF!!!! In addition to that, at the beginning of their performance what is believed to be the voice of an SBS staffer can be heard saying into a mic "Why are they doing a musical again?". This mic was connected directly to the ear monitors of the group's members as they were starting their performance.
SBS released a statement denying the voice belonged to a SBS staffer and basically said it came either from an audience member or the artists themselves. 😐

Due to the level of criticism from Netizines and coverage of the debacle by news outlets, SBS actually pulled all official footage of BTOB's performance from their Youtube channel and website. I had to do a lot of digging just to find the above clip.
As you can see from the minute and five second clip, there were many many things wrong with the technical execution of BTOB's performance. I expect a lot more from a veteran broadcasting company like SBS.
To be fair, BTOB was not the only group to experience technical issues during their performance. The entire broadcast was filled with different problems, including this mix up at the beginning of TWICE's performance when Gfriend's musical track started playing instead of "TT". It took an entire 20 seconds for someone in the audio booth to realize the members of TWICE were waiting for their track to start and that NO ONE was performing.
Though many other artists experienced problems during their performances and other segments of the show has issues as well, none were as bad as the issues BTOB faced, nor was the level of disrespect shown more severe.
The fact that SBS has not apologized for any of the issues is really the most upsetting part of it all. They are blatantly choosing not to take responsibility for any of the unfortunate mistakes and missteps that occurred, nor owning up to the regretful manner in which BTOB was treated.
What are your thoughts on the matter? Are fans over-reacting? Should SBS apologize?
