The Pains of Our Yesterdays Beginning: Chapter 1 Previous: Chapter 14+4 Next: Chapter 16 Warning: May contain mild language. Minor trigger warning. It's not much of anything but I'm adding this just in case.
Narrator POV Jimin’s hand gripped the back of Jiyoung’s neck and his other hand wrapped around her waist as he pulled her up against him. He smashed his lips onto hers and kissed her with everything his drunk mind finally let out. Jiyoung’s eyes were wide open. She couldn’t grasp any concrete thoughts. Jimin continued to kiss her, too lost to notice that she wasn’t kissing back. Jiyoung gasped in surprise when Jimin’s lips moved to her neck. Jimin took it as encouragement to continue and gripped her tighter. Jiyoung finally rediscovered her ability to think. But her thoughts didn’t provide her with any help. Against her will, Jiyoung’s body seemed to welcome the touches, the kisses, the intimacy she’d been deprived of. But Jiyoung herself didn’t know how to feel. It just felt wrong. She hadn’t made up her mind about Jimin and Hoseok and it felt wrong for her to do this. But her body wouldn’t respond properly. She barely managed to grab his arms, but they wouldn’t respond to her telling them to pull away. Right as his lips reached the crook of her neck, her thoughts flooded with the only two people who had kissed her there: her drunk adoptive father, who would all but try to rape her when he got too drunk, and the man with the knife, the one who tried to rape her before the guys had saved her. Jiyoung squeezed her eyes shut tightly as the memories of those events overlapped with this one. She didn’t notice when a few tears slipped down her cheeks. Jimin, too, was lost in the moment, but for different reasons. He was drunk, but not pass-out-in-your-own-vomit drunk. Just drunk enough to think that kissing her was smart. Drunk enough that he might not remember his actions the next morning. And when his lips met hers, he didn’t think anymore. He didn’t notice that she didn’t kiss back and he moved to her neck. Her small gasp sent his body into overdrive and he held onto her more tightly as if he was trying to confirm she really was there or afraid she would slip away. He wetly kissed down her throat and reached the crook of her neck, right at her collarbone. He started to suck on the skin, wanting to mark her as his. Suddenly, he felt a wetness hit his cheek. This snapped him out of his reverie. He pulled away and looked up at Jiyoung’s face. Jimin felt his heart wrenching apart when he saw her eyes closed so tightly and a few teardrops drip from her eyelashes and roll down her cheeks. And that’s when his actions finally hit him. {Oh God, what did I do? I shouldn’t have done that!} He let go of her and stepped back. Jiyoung opened her eyes and saw his wide eyes full of fear and regret. Even through everything, that look sent a pang of pain through her chest. “J-Jimin?” Jimin stepped back again. “I’m so sorry.” His voice was barely above a whisper. He broke eye contact and quickly stumbled past Jiyoung. Part of her wanted to grab him, but she didn’t. Part of her wanted to go after him, but she didn’t. She just stood there even as the sound of the door slamming reverberated throughout the room. Then her legs gave out and she fell to the floor. She started crying. But she didn’t know why she was crying. Was it because he kissed her? Was it because he stopped? Was it the look of regret in his eyes? Was it because it felt wrong? Was it because it felt right? Was it because she realized that her friendship with Jimin wouldn’t likely ever be the same? Those thoughts and more continued to dance around in her head. She didn’t know how long she cried for, but eventually, she was able to stop. Jiyoung knew she should go back to everyone in the game room. Someone would eventually notice she was missing and start looking for her and she didn’t want them to see her like this. The closest bathroom was in the game room. Fortunately, the bathroom there was in the corner away from the group. She wiped the tears away and shakily got to her feet. One step at a time, she made her way back to the game room. She managed to get to the bathroom without anyone noticing her. A few minutes of washing her face made her presentable again. Just as she left the bathroom, she bumped into Hoseok. “Oh, there you are. We were debating about sending a search party for you. We thought you might’ve passed out somewhere.” Hoseok’s silly smile warmed her and she felt a little better. “Ah, no. Just wanted to get a drink of water and ended up spilling everywhere. It took me a while to clean it up. Then, obviously, the bathroom.” Hoseok laughed. He put his hand on her head and affectionately ruffled her hair. It was a habit that both he and Jin didn’t realize they had developed. He looked at her lovingly. Every day, she looked so beautiful to him. The alcohol in his body told him to kiss her, but the sense left in his brain told him that he better not. And there was something about her demeanor that struck Hoseok as odd right then. She looked uncomfortable, like she was hiding something. Before he realized it, his hand had lowered and was gently caressing her face. He was startled to see fear in her eyes. He quickly played off his actions by pinching her cheek and making a silly face. Jiyoung seemed to relax a bit. Something wasn’t right. Jiyoung quickly moved past him. A thought struck Hoseok. “Have you seen Jimin?” He turned around to see Jiyoung frozen mid-step. Something had happened. “Uh, yeah,” she replied turning around. “H-he said he wasn’t feeling too great so he was going to lay down.” “That’s weird. He’s always been able to hold his liquor.” Jiyoung’s eyes frantically darted back and forth. Finally, she just shrugged her shoulders. “Maybe he drank more than you thought.” He searched her eyes and saw deception. But he also saw fear and...guilt? Had Jimin done something to her? Or had it been mutual? Her eyes practically pleaded with him to leave it as is. And, with a heavy heart, he decided to comply. Hoseok forced a smile. “Maybe. I guess we should send someone to check on him soon.” Relief showed on her face. Jiyoung nodded and turned around, heading back to the others. Hoseok sighed and went into the bathroom to take care of his business. The party ended about an hour later and Jiyoung took responsibility for helping everyone to their rooms. She had to fight (laugh off) a couple peoples’ drunken attempts to grope her, Taehyung and Namjoon, who also tried to keep her in their rooms. The rest were easy to deal with, though part of her wanted to stay and watch Hoseok who had fallen asleep as soon as his head hit the pillow. Jungkook was the last one she had to help to bed. As soon as she finished, she walked back into the empty hall. The house was dead silent. Jimin’s door was right in front of her. She stood there for several minutes trying to decide what to do. Eventually, she walked to his door and knocked hesitantly. She tried the handle and was surprised to find it unlocked. She opened the door slowly. “Jimin?” she called softly. There was no answer. She opened the door more and found him lying face down on his bed, all the lights turned on. She wasn’t sure exactly how much he had drunk before so she wanted to make sure he was okay. She walked around his bed to where she could see his face. He was passed out, nothing in the way of his mouth. She watched him for a minute, trying to figure out her feelings. But nothing concrete made itself available. She sighed and turned to leave. “Jiyoung...” Jimin murmured in his sleep. Jiyoung froze, one foot turned towards the door, one turned towards Jimin. Before she could give herself more time to think, she left. Jiyoung POV I woke up with a slight headache. I groaned and turned away from the light coming from my window. I was grateful that, starting last month, I had been able to start sleeping without the lights on. I stayed lying on my bed, not feeling like I wanted to get up. Even with the alcohol, I hadn’t been able to sleep very well. My thoughts, along with the replay of my kiss with Jimin, kept playing over and over in my head. And now that I was awake again, I didn’t want to get up. I absentmindedly scratched at my neck where he had been kissing me. What if Jimin avoided me? What if he wanted to talk to me? What if he wanted to know how I felt? There was a knock on my door. A couple seconds later, it opened slightly. “Jiyoung-ah?” came Jin’s voice. “Come in,” I called, my voice filled with sleep. Jin opened the door and walked in with a smile on his face. “Party too hard last night?” he teased. “No, I was up late carrying all of you guys to bed,” I teased him back. Jin’s mouth turned up in a sheepish grin. “Oops,” he laughed. “Oops is right,” I returned. “Well, either way, it’s getting late so I wanted to make sure you were still alive.” I looked at the time. “Oh my God!” It was almost noon. “If it makes you feel any better, we all only got up in the last half hour.” “Makes me feel a little better.” I threw the covers off and groaned as I sat on the edge of the bed. Jin laughed. “If you keep doing that, everyone’s gonna think you’re an ahjumma.” I threw one of my smaller pillows at him. He laughed as he ducked. “Here,” he said, holding out his palm and a glass of water and walked to me. “I brought these just in case.” I took the pills from him and downed them along with a large swallow of water. “Thanks.” “No problem, dongsaeng.” He ruffled my hair. Though I didn’t like the others thinking that I was SooJin’s spirit or whatever, I liked him calling me his sister. It felt nice. “Let me get changed and I’ll be down in a minute.” Jin made a noise of agreement and told me he’d see me in a minute. The worrisome thoughts came back as soon as he left. I quickly cleaned my face and changed. I hesitated with my hand hovering over the doorknob. I took a couple breaths and hardened my resolve. The walk to the dining room seemed to take longer than usual. In the dining room, most of the others had already finished eating and were just staying to chat. I spotted Jimin with his back turned to me. The anxiety kicked up a notch. “Well, well, if it isn’t sleeping beauty,” JiEun called out. Everyone turned to me. Including Jimin. I didn’t know what to expect, but I definitely wasn’t expecting what I saw. Jimin had the same amused smile as everyone else. I stared at him for a moment trying to figure out if he was just acting or if he really didn’t remember what had happened last night. “What?” Jimin asked, touching his face. “Do I have something on my face?” “Ah, no sorry, I was just zoning out. I think I’m still asleep,” I quickly recovered. “Well, you can zone out at my face anytime,” he laughed before turning back to his conversation with Namjoon. “To be fair,” Jin spoke up, “she was the one who helped all of us to bed. I think she deserved her little bit of extra sleep.” “Did you run me into a wall or something?” Namjoon asked. “I have a bruise right here.” He pointed to his side. “And my wrists are killing me.” “Do you really want to ask me that question?” Namjoon just looked at me confused. “You don’t remember?” Namjoon slowly shook his head. “None of us remember much from last night,” he replied. That explained why Jimin was acting like nothing happened. As far as he was concerned, nothing did. “Well then, if you want to know, the bruise is from me.” “Did you punch him?” Jungkook asked while laughing. “No. I jabbed him in the side.” “Why?” Namjoon asked incredulously. I debated whether I should say it or not. In the end, I decided to. “Well, when you used my helping you as an excuse to grab my boob, I jabbed you in the side.” Everyone stared Namjoon down and Namjoon tried to silently plead innocence. I smiled and continued. “Then, when I finally got you to your bed, you apparently decided that it would be a good idea to grab my butt and try to make me sit on your lap—“ I didn’t get to finish before the others started yelling at him. I couldn’t help laughing. At the time, I had been freaked out, being touched like that. But now, it was easy for me to laugh at it. Maybe there was something wrong with me. Maybe that’s why I kept forgiving Jimin... I looked across the table and saw Taehyung rubbing the middle of his abdomen, just below his ribs. He had a horrified look on his face as his eyes darted back and forth. He was trying to remember last night, if the bruise I’m sure he had was because of something he did last night. It was. He looked up at me and I cocked an eyebrow, a playful smirk on my face. {Do you remember?} His eyes widened. Now I knew he knew he had done something. Everyone was still busy harassing Namjoon so they didn’t notice. Until Hoseok caught my eye. He looked around the table to see who was looking at me. I saw the two of them look at each other. “What did my cousin do?” Hoseok asked me. The others quieted and Namjoon sighed in relief. I felt bad for Namjoon and soon I would for Taehyung as well. “Do you remember?” I directed at Taehyung. He shook his head slowly, his eyes still big. “What did he do?” Jimin prodded. I saw Jimin get annoyed at Namjoon earlier and now he was getting annoyed at Taehyung. {If only you knew what you did.} “Not as much as Namjoon, if it makes you feel any better.” I small shadow of relief softened his fearful face. The poor kid. I couldn’t help but chuckle a little. “Hey. That’s not fair. You said what I did, now you have to say what Tae did.” “Hyung!” Taehyung yelled at Namjoon. I laughed again. It was too much fun. The others weren’t really mad at them, just giving them a hard time. Although Jin looked like he wanted to kill them. “Let’s just say it involved your bed, spooning, and wandering hands.” “Yah!” Hoseok yelled at his cousin. The others joined in. I couldn’t stop laughing and soon, all the yelling turned into laughter. “So you had quite an eventful night, huh unnie?” JiEun asked. My eyes flitted towards Jimin for just a second. “Yeah, I guess so. Needless to say, I won’t be the sober one taking everyone to bed next time.” Another round a laughter. I was torn between relief and hurt knowing that Jimin didn’t remember the events of last night. I scratched at my neck again. “Bug bite?” Jungkook asked. “I guess so,” I replied. “Kinda looks like a hickey to me,” Yoongi stated. They looked at me questioningly. But I had no idea what that was. “What’s a hickey? Is it like a bug bite?” JiEun almost spit out her food from laughing. I didn’t understand what was so funny. I looked to her. “It’s similar,” she giggled, “except it’s from a person.” “Why would a person...” And then I thought to last night. Jimin’s lips on my neck. Was it possible that it had been because of him? I felt my cheeks heat up. Luckily, JiEun took it a little differently. “Now you get it.” “Did one of these perverts do that to you?!” Jin practically shrieked. I couldn’t let them know. I didn’t want to think about it. “No, no,” I assured him. “I think it’s just a bug bite. It’ll be fine after I put some medicine on it.” Everyone seemed to believe that. Maybe it was just my imagination, but Jimin seemed to be a little too engrossed in his breakfast. But maybe I was just making something from nothing. Breakfast went back to normal. Narrator POV Another week passed of work, work, and more work. Now that Jiyoung had passed her GED, she wanted to look at college. She was still fairly certain that she wanted to do social work, but she wasn’t sure exactly how she should go about it. Also, even though she didn’t really mean to, she started to avoid Jimin. And it was just as well, because Jimin seemed to avoid her. Or maybe it was just his schedule. That weekend, because Yoongi and Namjoon were both caught up with work, and thus couldn’t take her out for her ‘date’, Jiyoung had a movie night with Taehyung and Hoseok in her room. The others had family matters, work, or school to worry about. Without realizing it, she ended up falling asleep on Hoseok. Exactly as Taehyung planned. As soon as the two fell asleep, he turned off the movie and left the two asleep on her bed. When they woke up the next morning, there was a lot awkward apologies, pink cheeks, and embarrassed laughter. Jiyoung enjoyed that. It felt nice waking up to him... But did that mean the he was the one she cared about most? When she thought of Jimin... But it didn’t matter. Whatever interest Jimin had showed in her before seemed to disappear after that night. She wondered if it was something he just needed to get out of his system, if it was only because he was drunk that he kissed her, or if he was avoiding her because he remembered. Every time her thoughts would become clouded she would go running or delve into her studies. She didn’t want to think. She thought it was possible that Hoseok liked her, but he never indicated that he wanted to be more than friends. So she kept her head down. If they didn’t make a move, she wouldn’t either. That was the only way she could think of that would allow her to avoid making a decision. Monday, Yoongi received a call. He was at work, so he let it ring. A minute later, it rang again. He wasn’t one to answer his personal phone, but it seemed urgent. He checked the caller ID. His sister was calling. She never called when he was at work, not unless it was an emergency. He answered his phone. “Ji-ah, is something wrong?” All he could hear was hysterical sobbing on the other line. She was trying to tell him something, but her crying made it impossible to understand. He started panicking; something was seriously wrong. “JiEun, calm down. I can’t understand a word you’re saying. Take a breath and tell me again.” All he caught was Jiyoung’s name. Suddenly, there was a shuffling sound. Jungkook’s voice came on the line. It was choked as well, but he was able to speak. “Hyung, we can’t get a hold of Jin-hyung. Jiyoung-noona... she was out running this morning. Someone hit her.” Yoongi stood up. He was ready to dash out the door. “She’s not... she’s not okay. She got—it’s bad. No one else is answering. We’re at the hospital. They said... I don’t know. A lot of medical stuff. But they said they can’t operate. Something about her blood. She has—I don’t know what it’s called, something like ‘R’ deficiency, I don’t know, but it’s a rare blood condition and they only have a very small amount of that blood type in the country. It’s being medivacced here. But they said they need more. They recommended we get tested. But you should come here. It’s not... even if they can find more blood... they said it’s very possible she—she may die.”
*** Sorry for throwing another curveball, but gotta keep you on your toes, lol.To start with, the kiss, I feel bad for both of them. Jiyoung's past has really hurt her and poor Jimin is lost. Do you think he really remembers it and is he just pretending he doesn't or was he really too drunk to remember? And the troublemakers getting frisky... lol. I just had to.As for the accident, well, the story decided to get complicated. And what's a good drama without an accident to mess everything up? Lol.So, I hope you enjoyed the chapter. I'll post again next Saturday and do my best to finish soon after. Thank you @Mavis2478 for the story.
Omg omg omggggg!!!😲😨
