Chapter 4

Confrontation

I walked outside her building wearing a black jacket, black cap convo, and my face covered with a black face mask. I surveyed the area making sure no one was watching. The place seemed deserted. Only the flickering of a nearby lamp humming on the distance could be heard. Everything seemed quiet, for now. I took a look at the building and made a guess of what her apartment was based on the surveillance l did earlier. I just hoped I wasn't too late. I knocked on the door being as careful as I could. An angry middle aged woman opened the door. "What do you want? I'm not buying anything. Go away!" I bowed politely apologizing before she closed the door right on my face with a big thud. So, I guess number one was wrong. I moved to the next apartment on the right and prayed that this time my guess was correct. This time I chose to remove my mask and cap before I knocked on the door. "Yes?" She asked peeking through the door unable to recognize me. "Y/N?" I said moving my face to the light pouring through the small crack on the door. "Seung Hyun?" She asked in disbelief opening the door. "Hi, it's been a while" I said smiling to her. "Yes. Oh my god! What are you doing here? I haven't seen you in ages." "Yeah." I said smiling. "Please, come in" she said inviting me in. "What are you doing out here this late?" I smiled and came in surveying the apartment. Paying close attention to the curtains being wide opened. I needed to remove my shoes but due to the circumstances I knew I couldn't afford to. I walked into the little living room with my shoes on bringing Y/N's attention. "What are you doing?" She said looking at my feet. "Oh?" I said making up an excuse, "I been living in the States all this time that I completely forgot. I'm sorry." She smiled and gave me a puzzled look. "It's okay. I guess you forgot good manners." I laughed at her comment and tried to make her walk with me out of the view of the window. "Please, have a seat" she said pointing to the sofa in the living room. I walked towards the table in the kitchen taking a seat on one of the chairs. "It's okay. I'll be fine here. I don't wanna mess your nice carpet with my bad manners." I said tapping one of my feet. "God, you haven't changed a bit," she said laughing. "I'll make you some tea and then you can tell me what brings you here." I smiled looking at her preparing the tea. This was a nice place. A little crowded for my taste but by anyone else's standards it would be called cozy. For now being in the kitchen kept her completely out of view from the window in the living room where she would surely be an easy target. Y/N sat down in the chair next to me after giving me the cup of tea. She stared at me with her big, beautiful, black colored eyes, expecting me to share what had brought me here. I kept stirring my tea with the spoon, making a loud noise every time the spoon hit the cup. I knew I had to tell her but I didn't know where to start. "Anytime you feel like telling me what you're doing here? It's not like it's getting late or anything." She said sarcastically. I loved that sarcastic attitude of hers. I was glad she hadn't lost it. "Just. It's complicated" I finally blurted. She reached across and softly placed her hand on mine "Are you in some kind of trouble?" She asked with a worried look on her face. "Not me. A friend of mine." "What kind of trouble? Is he sick? Does he owe money?" "No. It's more complicated than that." I said shaking my face while still messing with the spoon. "What can be more complicated than that? Did he got involved with the mafia or something?" She said laughing lightheartedly. I stopped stirring my tea and looked directly at her not laughing at her comment. "Oh" she said leaning back on her seat, taking a big breath before gulping down the last remainings of her tea. "It's something like that" I said. "I know we haven't seen each other in a long time, Seung Hyun, but what kind of friends have you been keeping?" She asked me in disbelief. "Well, I would like to say on her defense that she doesn't know the kind of trouble she's in." "She?" She asked raising an eyebrow suspiciously. She finally caught up with the situation when I made no comments. She quickly stood up and started pacing up and down the little kitchen. "You don't mean?" "Yes." She sighed and quickly looked directly at me anger evident on her face. "All right, I want you to cut the bullshit and tell me exactly what kind of trouble do you think I am!?" "Someone wants you dead." She laughed at the absurdity of my comment. "Someone wants me dead? Me? A secretary? Why would someone want me dead!?" "I don't know, that's why I'm here to find out." "And just who the fuck are you!?" She said moving towards the living room. "How would you know that someone wants me dead!?" I was about to answer her question when I noticed the red laser beam that was pointed directly at her head.
