When she arrived at work the next day, it was quiet. Not much to do, except hang out with her team in the studio. She was relieved but after a while her boss called her into his office. She sat in the chair in front of his desk. A familiar scene from not so long ago. He stared at her from across his desk, his chin resting on a closed fist.
“It felt like deja vu seeing him walk in with that same look on his face from two months ago. I don't know which one it is but I'm going to tell you, it's not going to be pretty. Do you really like this guy?” He shifted and leaned back into his chair, “Is it worth losing your job, maybe even getting kicked out of this country, because believe they can do it, if it goes that far.” he said watching and waiting for her to answer.
She sat quietly, thinking about it.
He continued, after taking a deep breath, “Speaking from personal experience, it's all sweet in the beginning but the minute others find out and start getting involved, it gets ugly. You have two options, stand against the storm or give in and walk away… sometimes you try to do both.”
She looked at him for a moment, everyone says that either because they seen it happen or it happened to them. She took a chance and asked, “What did you choose?”
“Are you looking for advice or suggestions?”
She smiled, “A little of both.”
He nodded, “We tried to weather the storm but in the end, I thought of what was best for her and walked away. And truthfully, I regret it. I should have stayed by her side.” he leaned forward, “Whatever you choose, whatever the BOTH of you choose, remember that with all the good support comes the hate. And even though the good outnumbers the bad, the bad weighs heavy. Like carrying a ton of bricks”
He opened his tablet and seen photos of that kid and that young new singer, splattered across numerous media sites. The headlines reading, “Sweet New Couple In The Making” & “Is Love In The Air?”. He looked up at her. He flipped the tablet around to show her, she looked away. He merely grinned figuring that he must be the one.
“Can I go?... No actually, is this the reason you called me up?” She asked wondering.
“Sorry, I kinda flew off into another topic. The minute you walked in that came to mind. No, what I wanted to share with you is that a manager came to see me, HIS manager. Complaining that you're messing around with one of his boys and wanted me to fire you or at least get you the hell out of here. I told him to go hell. It's usually his boys that start shit and that he ends up cleaning up after them.” He leaned back and swirled halfway around in his chair, smiling at himself, “Yup, those boys like to cause trouble. But it looks like…” he looks at his best make-up and hair artist from the corner of his eye, “Looks like it's for real this time.”
She got worried, “Am I getting... let go?”
Her boss shook his head, “No. He can't tell me what to do, me and him are on the same level. We both manage departments. You don't have anything to worry about.
After she left his office, she made her way downstairs to the main floor. She seen her friend but couldn't talk to her. She was on her way to an out of town photoshoot. They just hugged, said hi and bye. She slumped down on the couch, playing on her phone. After a minute, she was deep in thought, thinking about what the manager said to her at her place and what her boss just told her.
So deep in thought, she didn't hear someone walk up behind her, until she felt a finger softly brush up her cheek. She grabbed his hand and closed her eyes, bringing his fingers to her lips, giving them a kiss and smiled.
“I miss you too” she heard a deep soft voice from over her head.
Her eyes widened. She jumped up, whirled around. She covered her face, “What the hell do you think you're doing?!” Her face turning red.
Her little dark god smirked at her, he put his hand out, “Come with me…”
