Where Are My Green Tea Addicts?!

Anyone else here love some traditional green tea!?


I am obsessed, so when I found a new place in Seoul whipping some up I headed over immediately. What I found was so much better than I expected!

The owner was a girl a little older than me who spoke perfect English, and we ended up just sitting and talking together for over two hours! I had gotten the cheapest tea on the menu, but after talking to me she offerered to do a free tea ceremony!

This was all grown organically in Korea and I was in absolute heaven!

Green Tea Smoothies – Delicious, Healthy, and Help You Lose Weight
Celebrate summer with these yummy green tea smoothies! They're packed with seasonal fruit and all the nutrients your body needs, helping you eat smart and achieve your health goals. Researchers at Purdue University found that you stay fuller longer when you drink thick beverages like smoothies; replacing meals with smoothies ups your chance of losing weight and keeping it off for more than a year. Even if weight loss isn't one of your goals, drinking smoothies can help you sneak in more raw fruits and veggies into your diet. My dad, who's a total health nut, will throw everything from kale to tomatoes to raw beets into his VitaMix – but shockingly, you'd never know it! Using a little peanut butter, cinnamon, sweetened yogurt, or ripe strawberries can really mask the taste of less traditional ingredients. Why Green Tea? Green tea contains catechin polyphenols, which Swiss researchers have found significantly increase your body's metabolism of fat – meaning you burn more, faster. In addition, green tea contains less caffeine than coffee, which, coupled with the nutrients provided by other ingredients, will give you long lasting, non-jittery energy, unlike the buzz-crash-repeat vicious cycle of coffee. Green Tea Goddess Smoothie 3 cups frozen green grapes 2 cups baby spinach, packed 1 1/2 cups strong brewed green tea, cooled 1 medium ripe avocado 2 teaspoons honey (or agave syrup) Avocados are packed with oleic acid, a healthy fat that's great for your heart. Plus, they've got more potassium than bananas, making them excellent supporters of healthy blood pressure levels. It's cheaper, easier to store, won't go bad, AND might even have more antioxidants than the fresh fruit you find in the supermarket, since it's picked and frozen at peak ripeness. To brew strong green tea, use two tea bags – but don't oversteep. Oversteeping can give your tea a bitter flavor that other ingredients might not succeed in masking.
How to Survive Winter in Korea
Yes, these are in celsius but also that means ITS TWENTY EIGHT DEGREES TODAY! In Seoul, its been getting down to about 15 degrees fahrenheit at night :( Here are a few popular ways to keep warm in Korea! Face Masks These do a lot of things that can help you out in winter. 1. They keep you warm! It catches the heat from your breath and heats/steams your face to keep you really warm when outside. 2. They keep you safe from germs! People cough and sneeze a lot in Korea without covering their mouths so keeping yourself away from germs is tough, but these do the job! 3. They protect against air pollution! This year the air has been really bad in Korea so an extra layer will protect you from the bad stuff floating around. Pick up the one Chanyeol is wearing: HERE Heat Packs In Korea, you can buy hot packs or hand warmers everywhere! You just shake them up and they can keep you warm for up to 14 hours! Actually, one of my friends accidentally fell asleep holding one and she got a slight burn, so its best to put them in a cute little pouch like the ones below~ Cute Reusable Ones: Owl Shape! Heart Shape! Classic Korean Hand Warmers :) Here! Warm Drinks Obviously you could just go for coffee, but in order to fight colds and get your vitamins and energy, Koreans often drink Yuja Tea and Ginger Tea. They come in a jelly/jam consistency and you have to add two scoops into a mug and fill it up with hot water. It's super healthy for you! What A Coke Does To Your Body In 1 Hour
I'll be the first to admit that I love Coca Cola. But it's absolutely horrible for us. A very detailed infographic supplied by TheRenegadePharmacist.com has officially proven again how bad Coke is for your body (WE KNOW). The American CDC has said that 25% of Americans drink soda on a regular basis which is a hefty reason why obesity has run rampant. Sugar is the main culprit since an average can of soda can contain 3 tablespoons of sugar and 4 tablespoons if in a 12-ounce-bottle. Coke is one of the most popular soft drinks in the United States with a massive marketing empire so there will never be a day where we won't see it somewhere. But there comes a time where you need to take a moment and see what you're putting into your body. Let's take a look : All it takes is ONE Coke : First 10 Minutes : 10 teaspoon of sugar hit your system. (100% of your recommended daily intake.) You don't immediately vomit from the overwhelming sweetness because phosphoric acid cuts the flavor allowing you to keep it down. In 20 Minutes : Your blood sugar spikes, causing an insulin burst. Your live responds to this by turning any sugar it can get its hands on into fat. (There's plenty of that at this particular moment.) In 40 Minutes : Caffeine absorption is complete. Your pupils dilate, your blood pressure rises, as a response your liver dumps more sugar into your bloodstream. The adenosine receptors in your brain are now blocked preventing drowsiness. In 45 Minutes : Your body ups your dopamine production stimulating the pleasure centers of your brain. This is physically the same way heroin works, by the way. In 60 Minutes : The phosphoric acid binds calcium, magnesium, and zinc in your lower intestine providing a further boost in metabolism. This is a compounded by high doses of sugar and artificial sweeteners also increasing the urinary excretion of calcium. After 60 Minutes : The caffeine's diuretic properties come into play. (It makes you have to pee.) It is now assured that you'll evacuate the bonded calcium, magnesium, and zinc that was headed to your bones as well as sodium, electrolyte and water. As the rave inside of you died down you'll start to have a sugar crash. You may become irritable and/or sluggish. You've also now, literally, pissed away all the water that was in theCoke. Korean Winter Street Foods
Korea is proud of its food, but it REALLY proud of its street food. There are different foods depending on the season, and I have to say that winter is the best. Here's a list of foods you MUST TRY if you get the chance: 군고구마 (kun go-gu-ma) 군 means "roasted" and 고구마 is Korean sweet potato. The potato is roasted in a huge barrel oven, then handed to you with the skin still on. It's your job to peel it and eat the sweet goodness inside. You can buy an entire bag if you want! 호떡 (ho-ddeok) 호떡 is sort of a pancake/donut combination. It is fried dough filled with cinnamon, sugar, and occasionally nuts. It is flattened into a pancake shape and handed to you in a tiny paper cup. Be careful with the first bite because the inside are often boiling hot! (There are also vegetable versions but the dessert version is much better in my opinion!) 군밤 (kun bam) We just learned that 군 means roasted and now we learn another word: 밤 means chestnut! Just like in New York where there are roasted nut stands everywhere around Christmas time, the cold weather brings out the roasted chestnut vendors. 계란빵 (kye-ran bbang) 계란 means egg while 빵 means bread so voila! Egg bread! The bread part is similar to corn bread, but a little less corn-y and the egg is steamed on top to make a really, really delicious combo. It's my favorite street food after 군고구마 :D 호두과자 (ho-du kwa-ja) The small of this is unnnnbelievable! 호두 means walnut and 과자 means cookie or snack. Therefore 호두과자 is a walnut cookie! They are shaped like walnuts and filled with sweet red bean. You can buy these by the bag full too! 회오리감자 (hwae-o-ri kam-ja) LOOK AT THESE THINGS! They are called 회오리감자 because 회오리 means tornado and 감자 means potato. Behold the potato tornado! I have NO idea how you eat these :) Have you guys tried any of these? Choosing the Right Tea to Match Your Mood
We as humans tend to experience multiple moods that come and go without any notice and quite frankly, it can get really frustrating. A kind gesture from a stranger can make your entire day. But, all of a sudden, an inconsiderate jerk pushes past you in order to get the last available seat on the subway and then an immediate transformation occurs. That one quick, yet affective gesture has officially dampened your high spirits and whiplashed you into another mood you really didn’t want to be in. Instead of being heavily medicated and secluding yourself in your room during a Netflix binge, grab a cup of tea and let its natural ingredients do the healing. Common cold: Elderflower Avoiding the common cold is inevitable sometimes. You feel yourself being cautious when you’re in public spaces, yet you still manage to pick it up after you used about half a gallon of hand sanitizer. Elderflower tea relieves the symptoms of a common cold. It has a gentle and pleasant tea, so it’s welcoming to people of all ages, especially young kids. It contains antiviral and immune boosting effects, so it can tackle flu symptoms and other common cold problems. Stressed: Lemon Balm Maybe you have to meet a strict deadline for work. Maybe you’re feeling overwhelmed because finals are approaching and you’re trying to cram in last minute study sessions. You have found that physically you’re exhausted, but the gears running in your mind won’t seem to shut off. Lemon balm aids relaxation and calmness. The oils in lemon balm contain chemicals that relax muscles, particularly in the stomach and bladder, and calms future anxieties you may be experiencing. Slow metabolism: Green Tea Whether you’re looking to shed a couple extra pounds, or simply speed up your metabolism, green tea has proven to be very beneficial in EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate), an ingredient known to speed up metabolism. Try to make it a habit of consuming 4-6 cups a day in order to notice a significant change in energy level. Sleepless nights: Chamomile Chamomile tea is strictly herbal based, so it doesn’t contain any caffeine, which is the main ingredient for keeping someone up in the first place. The tea itself has a unique, sweet, and floral aroma and will have a drowsiness effect on you. Your local grocery store should have brands like Celestial Seasonings and Traditional Medicinals, which are two of my favorite brands; however, if you’re feeling adventurous, you can even go as far as drying out the flowers and brewing them yourself. Bloated: Peppermint Peppermint has been known to help fatigue and stomach problems. It calms your internal systems and is extremely useful if you over-indulge in a late night meal or food loaded with sugars and fibers that the body finds hard to absorb. Next time you’re feeling uncomfortable because you maybe had one too many slices of cake, try and drink some peppermint tea to settle your stomach and reduce bloating. Nauseous: Ginger Tea Soon to be mothers have claimed that Ginger has helped them during pregnancy sickness. If you make this tea from grated root ginger, it will provide even more benefits. First, you want to steep two teaspoons in boiled water. Then, let it sit until it’s cool. Finally, sip on it casually, and you should find your nausea disappearing. Try not to consume more than three teaspoons a day.
