How long can we
love what's worthless,
how long?
We crawl up mountains on hand
and knee,
then fight to stay alive....
because the mountaintop holds riches;
a ransom for the righteous.
Running the gamut
through every trial and
hearing without listening,
loving without feeling,
dying without living....
it's the fear inside that disavows progress.
The just,
they hear the call,
standing at the edge of town
musing over escape plans,
but they fail to resist;
and
become unjust,
never rejecting the appetites
of the awful.
How long can we
love what's worthless
following falsehoods that fail
with hearts hollowed out
by
the
thievery corporation.
They endorse designs
with kisses that conceal deceit and
promote theories of sunlight
that dispute its brilliance,
rearranging dreams of tomorrow
into forever,
a forever of
their own making....
wreaking havoc
like invisible Al Capones
while we solitarily watch
the engineers of our fate
enticing
shadow puppets of injustice
to shoot the moon
with
a devil's gun.
How long can we
love what's worthless,
how long?
We long for
the what,
but roguishly
we look through
the why.
Veritas aequitas,
veritas aequitas.
