They walked arm in arm. Noona breathed in deep. She tried not to think about anything but her mind kept coming up with resolutions based on answers she hadn't had yet. The main thing that was on her mind was that, he wasn't ready for this yet. She understood what that meant and she knew she wasn't either. If he don't want this, then what. An abortion? She was afraid of what he was going to say, afraid of his decision.
She pulled her hoodie down more and covered her face with the face mask, in hopes of hiding the tears that were threatening to take her. She clung tightly to her friends arm. She closed her eyes and allowed her friend to guide her.
They stopped all of a sudden. Then her friend turned them around fast, pulling her along quickly. She opened her eyes and looked around.
“What's wrong?” Noona asked.
“Quickly…” she said pulling her unnie back the way they had come. Every now and then, she bumped into someone. “Don't let go of me, Unnie.”
“What did you see?”
Her friend looked back, “I thought I saw the manager. He was following us in a black car.”
Noona looked back. She searched the crowded street, looked at every car that drove past them. Looked at every face that was behind them.
“Are you sure?” noona asked.
“I happen to look to the side of us and there was a car following next to us, the driver was looking at us closely or trying to.” her friend stopped and looked back, “I'm pretty sure it was him. What should we do? Do you think he'll bother us here?”
“I don't know. He's got a lot of nerve, don't he?” Noona backed them into a store doorway. “You look that way and I'll look this way. Let me know if you spot that car again.”
They stood back to back, eyeing every car and face. Every muscle in her body tightened up as she started to feel nervous and anxious, it made her stomach hurt like hell. She rubbed her tummy but the pain was getting stronger. She tried to calm herself. She felt her friend's hands grab her shoulders and push her into the store. She hunched over, holding her tummy.
“Unnie!” Her friend cried out before she felt someone pick her up and drag her out. “Unnie!” She felt her friend trying to hang onto her before someone threatened her friend to let go or else. “LET HER GO! SOMEONE HELP US!” Her friend screamed but no one helped. Too afraid of the big man in the black car that drove away with her friend.
Noona looked up from the back seat, sure enough, the manager was driving. She recognized who was holding her arm, she glared at the security guard. She pulled her mask off.
“You came back before they did, how convenient.” She said. She was in pain but tried to hide it.
He looked back at her in the mirror, “I never went.”
“Why don't you just leave us alone. We're not hurting anyone.” She pulled her arm away from the man sitting next to her, giving him a mean look, “I don't know why you're so worried. It's not like we are planning to get married, we're just…” she laughed, “to put it lightly, we're just sleeping together.”
“Say what you will, he’s told me he's not letting you go.” The manager said.
She stared out the window. It was true, she wasn't going to let him go either, “So where are you taking me now? Back to that basement or do you have other accommodations for me?”
He turned around, taking a quick look at her, “Why are you pale? Are you afraid of what's going to happen to you?” he laughed.
“Why… why are you doing this? I don't understand. This isn't a big deal but you're making it into one.”
He glanced back at her, “Because she wants him more.”
