Partially due to the fact that he's 84, James "Whitey" Bulger sat calmly in court while federal prosecutors called for a life sentence. He was "convicted in August of murdering 11 people following a two-month trial rife with bloody tales of gun-toting mobsters mowing down rivals and unlucky bystanders." He claims the whole trial is a sham, but prosecutors think this claim has less to do with the murders and more to do with him trying to deny that he was ever an FBI informant Whitey rose to power at the same time that his brother rose to become president of the Massachusetts Senate. He was assisted on his way to the top by a crooked FBI agent who looked the other way in exchange for information on the Italian mob (Whitey is irish).
