So I did a DNA test through 23andme. Very simple, just fill the vile with spit (namely your own), register your kit and send it off. It says to wait 6 to 8 weeks for results but I got mine back within 4 weeks. They send an email letting you know they received your kit. They received mine on June 1st, 2017.
I got my results yesterday.
It was a little surprising. I am Native American but I knew I had some European in there somewhere. I have great great great grandparents on my grandmother's side, that came from Spain, also known as Iberion (Spain and Portugal peninsula). So that was correct.
What really surprised me was the East Asian traces. Its been LONG debated about Native Americans having been descendants of people that passed over on the land bridge. There were traces of DNA that come from East Asia.
I love the results.
They also trace mitochondrial DNA as well as something called maternal haplogroup. This traces the maternal heritage back to a group of women that originated in Africa. Mine comes from a group that began Eastern Asia that started 15,000 to 20,000 years ago.
This could all explain a lot of things.
I joked earlier about this... I mean what is this... 3.3% unassigned. That's Alien DNA, maybe that's why I love the night sky and believe in other planets with life on them.
If you're interested in finding out about your DNA, you can take the test too.
The kit is $99
