"HIVEHAUS®, designed by Barry Jackson, is an ultra compact modular housing system inspired by hexagonal honeycomb structures that honey bees build to store honey and pollen in a beehive. Hexagonal modules, or cells, that are identical in size can be joined together at any time to any of the six sides of the cell to create a modular cluster of connected units or a “Hive”.
Each cell is 9.3 square meters (or ~100 square feet) of internal space and is designed to be used for a specific purpose or work/live space, whether it be an office cell, lounge cell, kitchen cell, sleep cell, or bathroom cell. Internal partition walls (with or without pocket doors) can be added or removed to build the space plan you desire. It can be open and airy or it can be divided up into cozy individual spaces.
The beauty of the HIVEHAUS® is that it’s a modular system that can be easily expanded depending on your housing requirements.
HIVEHAUS® is delivered to the site as flatpack components making remote locations a possibility. A single cell can be erected by two or three people within one day without the need for any heavy machinery. Each cell has adjustable legs so they can be installed on sloping or uneven terrain without a problem."
