They stayed up late into the night. Jae studied each of their faces; face shape, their eyes, lips, skin tone. She managed to get a hold of concept drawings for the concert. What they're outfits were going to look like, how their hair should be styled. Nari brought over their CDs and listened to everything from the past six years, including their newest album. They watched all their music videos like Nari said they would.
Every time she came across Sehun’s photo, she would stop and stare. Her friend noticed.
“You like him, don't you?”
“I love his eyes. They're gorgeous.” She shook her head, “He's just a baby compared to me.”
“They're all so unreal though” Nari said looking at their photos, “They're all gods.”
Jae laughed, “He's a baby god. Everyone bows down to him. When does the show start?”
“On Friday. It starts at 6pm so you have to be there around 3 or 4.” Nari said putting everything away.
“Damn, that early? I guess it's no different than any other show.”
Friday came. She and Nari went to the venue. They were given directions to the dressing room. Nari said she would stay until the show starts because she wanted to see them. Then they heard music coming down the hall so they followed it. Jae peeked out from behind the curtain and laughed, she grabbed Nari and pulled her forward.
“There you go ahjumma, your eye candy!” Jae laughed again and stepped back.
They were on stage rehearsing. Nari gasped and then squealed in excitement.
“What are you ladies doing?” They heard from behind them.
They both turned around. Jae was too afraid to turn around, she knew that voice but she knew she had face him sooner or later, after all she was going to be spending the next three weeks with them. Junmyeon looked from Nari then to Jae as she slowly turned around.
His lips parted a little, “Jae” he stepped up to her and gave her a small hug, “What are you doing here?” his hand running down her back, he closed his eyes breathing her in. He stepped back remembering himself, he asked again clearing his throat, “What are you doing here?”
“I'm on the hair and makeup crew as a hairstylist” She said quietly.
He smiled, he ran his hand through his hair, “Oh really… how did that happen?”
“Me. I was supposed to be the one on that crew but I'm sick so Jae is taking my spot” Nari said, her voice almost ready to give out from saying so much. She looked to Jae and Jae shook her head when she seen him make a face.
Jae narrowed her eyes at him, “Is that a problem? If it is then you can speak to my boss about switching me out with someone else…”
Junmyeon’s eyes snapped at her, “Did I say it was a problem? If this is where you're assigned, then so be it. I don't have a problem with it. Do you?” He snapped. They stared at one another. Then she seen him give up his stance, “I just thought we agreed…”
“It can't be helped. But like I said maybe my boss can switch me out with someone else. Seeing how we just greeted each other, maybe it's best I do that.” Jae stepped down from the stage and walked past him.
He grabbed her arm. “I'm sorry. I just have a lot on my mind today. You can stay, I want you to stay on.” He looked at Jae's friend and smiled, Nari’s face looked shocked and confused, “I'm sorry you had to see that. Please, umm… come around to the front. A lot of the crew is seated and watching the rehearsal. You two can join them.” He pulled Jae to his side and whispered into her ear, “I'm sorry. I’m really happy to see you.” He ran up the steps, apologizing again as he went past Nari.
Nari put her hand on Jae's shoulder, “What happened between you two?”
“I lied when I said he wasn't difficult.” She said, a lie to cover up the truth, “Come on let's go around to the front.”
They emerged from the side of the stage and seen where the rest of the crew was. A couple of them waved them over. They went and sat.
The stage set up was huge, there was a platform that ran all the way around the floor in a big circle, then they realized it was the shape of their infamous symbol. It lit up, turning different colors, then they tested the light patterns with fast impulses that slowed down to mimic a heart beating. Up on the main stage, they watched them rehearse their dance routines to their music. Then they practiced where they were going to be standing on stage for certain songs.
Sehun came running out to their side of the stage. Nari looked at Jae and elbowed her. Jae leaned forward onto the railing, staring at him from over her folded arms. The lights went dim, the stage lights and the overhead lights, turned red. He turned his baseball cap around and was going to start dancing when the music started, but he stopped and was yelling for his prop. The stagehands were looking around for it. He stood there with his hands on his hips, shaking his head.
Jae happen to look down and saw it lying on the floor. She climbed over the railing, jumping down at least five feet to the floor. She walked over, picked it up and handed out up to him.
Sehun stopped breathing. ‘Is this real?’ he asked himself. He bent over and grabbed it from her. He watched her climb back up the wall, over the railing, and sit directly in front of him. He started to get nervous. He pulled his cap back around and pulled the visor down lower. He put his cane up in the air for everyone to see. The music started again.
Nari leaned over and whispered into her ear, “I think you just made a friend.”
Jae looked at her from the corner of her eye. She happen to look over in other direction and saw Junmyeon staring at her, then he started dancing.
“It's going to be a long three weeks.”
