Baekhyun woke up.
His eyes fluttered in the dim light. His body ached, his head hurt, his arm hurt. He touched his face, his arms, body, and legs, checking for injuries, bandages or even a cast. He was relieved that there was none. Then he heard light snoring and when he looked down, Chanyeol was asleep next to him, one hand laying on his tummy. Baekhyun smiled and gave his hand a little squeeze. Chanyeol opened his eyes, blinking like a sleepy child, he looked at his hand and smiled at the long pretty white fingers holding his, he looked up at Baekhyun.
“You're awake.” His voice tired and deep. “How do you feel?”
“Tired.” Baekhyun said in a dry voice, “I hurt everywhere.”
“Do you remember what happened?”
Baekhyun nodded slowly, his neck hurt.
“What's the last thing you remember?” Chanyeol asked sitting up straight.
Baekhyun thought for a minute, he sat up feeling every muscle ache as he tried to stretch. It all started to come back to him. He remembered the headlights heading towards them, how he froze up. The way the other car side swiped them when he tried to veer away, the feel of his car when it started to spin out of control, reaching for Chen to make sure he didn't fall out of the car when he saw the door open up suddenly and slam shut, hitting Chen in the arm. How they clung to one another as the car went over. The sudden pain he felt when his head hit the driver side window. Then everything got fuzzy, blurred, like a bad dream, and Chen telling him to stay awake.
He looked around, “Where’s Jongdae? Is he okay? Oh my god…” he covered his face and started to sob, “Please tell me he's okay.”
“He's okay. A little beat up but he's okay.” Chanyeol said, he wrapped his long arms around Baekhyun's small shaking body.
“Chanyeol, I'm sorry. The last thing I thought about was you, I shouldn't have argued with you.” Baekhyun sobbed, wrapping his arms around his giant Yeolie. “I was worried about you, so worried that I didn't want to die without telling you sorry and… And...”
“I don't care about that. I'm just glad you're okay.” Chanyeol cradled him.
He pulled away, wiping his face and nose, “Jongdae hyung was calling me but I couldn't move, I couldn't help him. It's true that when you hit your head, you see stars. I saw billions of them.” He waved his hand through the air as if he could touch the stars right now.
Chanyeol snorted, “Hyunnie…” he shook his head, trying not to laugh, “They said when they pulled you two out, Jongdae was hanging onto you, he wouldn't let go.”
“Can I see him? Is he nearby?”
Chanyeol nodded towards the far wall, “He's in the next room. But I don't think you should be moving around right now…” he watched Baekhyun swing his legs off the bed, “Hyun-ah, you should stay still until the doctor looks at you.”
But Baekhyun was determined. He took a deep breath and slipped off the bed, his feet hit the ground and his knees buckled, his butt landing on the floor. Chanyeol jumped to help him up. Baekhyun held onto him as he took his first steps. He started to get dizzy, the room started to spin, he fell against Chanyeol's chest, he started to get queezy and darted for a trash can. Chanyeol held his breath holding Baekhyun. When he was done, he felt better but still a little dizzy. When they reached the door, Chanyeol opened it and peeked out, there was no one around. He turned around and kneeled.
Baekhyun climbed onto his back. Chanyeol carried him quickly to Chen's room. The reporters down the hall started up again, the sound of cameras flashing, echoed down the hallway but they ignored it. Chanyeol kicked the door. It opened up wide. Suho looked at them surprised, even more so at Baekhyun. He told them to hurry. As soon as the door closed, Chanyeol put Baekhyun down.
As soon as Chen saw Baekhyun, he jumped off the bed. Baekhyun wobbled over to him with Chanyeol following close behind him, ready to catch him. He threw his arms around Chen and cried endlessly. Chen held him as tight as he could. Xiumin watched from the other side of the room.
“Hyung… hyung I'm so sorry.” Baekhyun cried
Chen rubbed his back, “You have nothing to be sorry about.” he replied through his own tears.
Sehun walked in with rest of the guys, carrying flowers and food, “What is this? A hugging party without us….Aigoo” He wrapped himself around the two, then one by one they joined in. Even Xiumin who couldn't deny his love for his members.
On the way back to his room, Baekhyun held on tightly to the hand railing, trying to walk on his own. The doctor told him if he could walk on his own then he could go home.
“Channie…” He looked back at him, “Channie, I'm going to do it.”
“Do what?” Chanyeol was walking behind him, holding the back of his gown closed.
“Are those reporters still there?” Baekhyun asked. He stopped at his hospital room door.
Chanyeol looked back real quick, “Yup… don't worry, I got your gown closed. No one's going to see your ass today.” he laughed.
“I'm not worried about that.” Baekhyun turned himself around, leaning against the door.
Chanyeol reached for the door handle, but Baekhyun stopped him. Chanyeol looked at him, there were tears coming out of his eyes, “What's wrong?”
“Near death experiences teach you a great lesson, like realizing what you have and what you could've lost…” He reached up and grabbed Chanyeol by the collar. Pulled him down, latching his lips onto Chanyeol's. Chanyeol was pleasantly surprised but he immediately pushed the door open and carried Baekhyun inside. Leaving the sound of cameras in hallway.
Baekhyun wrapped his arms around Chanyeol's neck and whispered into his ear,
“Park Chanyeol, I love you more than anyone in this world.”
