I'm Ashamed of My Hometown
San Diego, get your shit together. Each year at the Padres stadium, Petco Park, the LGBT society in SD holds an event called "Out at the Park" that is meant to bring the community together for an evening of baseball. This year, Petco Park really, really screwed up. The San Diego Men's Gay Chorus was meant to sing the national anthem before the game to represent the LGBT community for this event. Their voices were never heard. The stadium let them take the field, and then as they were about to sing, a recorded female voice instead sang the anthem (which, if you've been to a Padres game, isn't something that happens - we always have live singing) The men had to walk off the field hearing people shouting profane, homophobic things at them. The Padres said it was a mistake, a technical error, a third party contractor, and that they were sorry. But that doesn't explain the other examples of mistreatment. Days prior to the game, the Padres organization told the performers that the chorus would have to pay for their tickets in order to sing. This is not something that happens, ever. If you perform the national anthem, you get to enter the park for free, DUH. Why did the Padres suddenly want this now? That would have cost the small organization thousands of dollars, and after dispute they were finally allowed in as performers. You can listen to their great voices here when they performed in 2015. It's a pity their voices weren't heard this year. Get it together Padres, you're a disappointment in baseball but don't be a disappointment to your entire community.
Joe Maddon wins Manager of the Year
Not that this is terribly surprising, but it's newsworthy all the same: Joe Maddon is the National League's Manager of the Year. The Cubs went 97-65 this season, a year after going just 73-89. They made the playoffs via the Wild Card and progressed to the NLCS, where they were eventually swept by the Mets in four games. Maddon's presence with the team certainly went a long, long way to turning things around for one of the league's most troubled franchises. It's not all about Maddon, though - this Cubs team was nothing like the 2014 edition. The emergence of young future (and even present) superstars like Kris Bryant and Kyle Schwarber turned this team on its head. The youngsters, combined with amazing seasons by Anthony Rizzo and pitcher Jake Arrieta made the Cubs one of the most feared teams in the National League. Many had them picked to win the World Series before they ran into the piping-hot Mets in the NLCS. They met an unstoppable force and couldn't pull it off, but had a great season nonetheless. In a somewhat surprising move, the Mets' Terry Collins finished third in Manager of the Year voting behind Maddon and Mike Matheny of the Cardinals. Sure, the Cardinals finished with the best record in baseball, but if you ask me, what Collins did as manager was more impressive than Matheny's work. The Mets' head honcho took a minor league roster and guided them through a brutal first half of the season before picking up some huge mid-season acquisitions and turning on the style late in the season, reaching the World Series before falling to the Royals. Sure, none of this actually matters, and I think most people pretty much agreed that Maddon would win Manager of the Year. Many probably picked Collins to finish second ahead of Matheny, but that's just making an argument for no reason. So, there we have it baseball fans: Maddon, Matheny, Collins. Is this the right order? The 5 Strangest Superstition in Sports!
Hello sports fans! It's Friday the 13th! Here are some of the strangest superstitions in sports! Michael Jordan Michael always wore his UNC shorts under his NBA shorts. Thus, he wore longer shorts than his fellow players at that time. In the end however, his fellow players followed suit after the legend. Serena Williams Serena Williams is known for not changing socks once during a tournament. It sucks to wear a pair of socks for more than a day...imagine how it would feel to wear the same socks for an entire tournament! I guess Serena doesn't mind it considering the number of tournaments she has won. Brian Ulracher Brian Ulracher ate two chocolate chip cookies before every game. Maybe that was the secret to his muscular body. I think it'd be fair to call him the "Cookie Monster". Caron Butler Caron Butler was known to be an avid fan of Mountain Dew. He loved the drink so much that he drank before and during every game. During his UNC days, he asked his wife to pick him a 2-L bottle of the green stuff, and drank half of it before the game, and the rest during half-time. In 2007, the Wizards and NBA banned him from drinking it during games so he eventually quit the whole thing in 2009. Moises Alou This one has to be the most f*cked up one out of all of them. Moises Alou used to pee on his own hands to harden them! Should we see that as commitment to the game of baseball or just some pretty weird ass shit? Oh and by the way, don't try to harden your hands by peeing on them ladies and gentlemen, because doctors have confirmed that peeing on your hand doesn't harden them. It actually softens them. @jeff4122 @ButterflyBlu @superiorsl @Starbell808 @DonnaMelton @InPlainSight @jokes @BEAUTYgirlARIEL @David19Flo23 @karencorchado @salahabdalla @Moose892 @BrookieyElba @SamuelRodriguez @ValerieAlissaPa @xitlalicordova1 @AndrewMaldonado @Jovi @Shippudenguy21 @AbdulrahmanSaad @trinityarcangel @thefeels @Link4TW @ChriSingularis @sanazsanaz @WilliamBrown @DannyMoses @ClaySharko @Ravenwing92 @FromBlue2U @TravisBeck @LemissaNicole @BossDominata @gatorchick96 @MatthewBoughton @MarcusJiles @BrandonMcNeil @MalikLawary @KyleBerke @manbungo2000 @DerekGumtow @havic @Straightshooter @PhilAnthony @Kirooken @yaakattackk @RodneyYoung @DreJones @JonathanKerns @bnzattoni @TravisManning @GalacticChakra @smothgreen @afxs @johnnolastname @ChristopherKenn @ChasePage @coreywriley91@MikeWolf @MrTenThirty @JasonNilsson @BrunoDutch @SherzTYC @krishntejanand @addri @ChrisStephens What was your favorite one from the list? The Most Unfortunate Baseball Player Ever
It's official. Shelby Miller is the most unfortunate baseball player in the world. He extended his winless streak to twenty three games. He hasn't won a single game since his two-hit shutout against the Miami Marlins on May 17th. And last night, he recorded his 16th loss of the season, placing him in the number one spot with the most losses. He is also the only starting pitcher in MLB history to record 16 or more losses in a season with an ERA of 3.00 or better. And you know what the sad part is? His teammates haven't been too cooperative when he was the starting pitcher. The stats below show Miller's basic stats the past twenty-three games he's started and run support he received. IP = Innings Pitched / RA = Run(s) Allowed / RS = Run Support 6.0 IP 2 RA (RS: 2) 7.0 IP 1 RA (RS: 0) 4.1 IP 4 RA (RS: 1) 7.0 IP 1 RA (RS: 3) 6.1 IP 3 RA (RS: 1) 5.2 IP 1 RA (RS: 0) 7.0 IP 1 RA (RS: 0) 5.0 IP 4 RA (RS: 0) 6.1 IP 0 RA (RS: 0) 5.0 IP 5 RA (RS: 0) 6.0 IP 1 RA (RS: 0) 7.1 IP 1 RA (RS: 0) 6.0 IP 4 RA (RS: 1) 7.0 IP 2 RA (RS: 3) 5.0 IP 2 RA (RS: 0) 7.0 IP 1 RA (RS: 1) 6.1 IP 3 RA (RS: 3) 6.2 IP 4 RA (RS: 3) 7.0 IP 1 RA (RS: 0) 4.1 IP 7 RA (RS: 0) 6.0 IP 3 RA (RS: 0) 3.2 IP 4 RA (RS: 1) 6.0 IP 2 RA (RS: 0) *Over the course of twenty three games, he recorded 15 losses, an ERA of 3.65 (138 IP 56 Earned Runs) Looks like Shelby Miller doesn't have any friends....I mean what are the hitters doing when Miller comes out to pitch! I really do hope Shelby Miller ends his unlucky streak next time he starts and I'm not even a Braves fan!

MLB Top Plays of the Day (09/23/15)
Here are your Top 5 Plays of the Day! 5. Alcides Escobar (Kansas City Royals) As soon as that was hit, we knew it was going to be a Texas hit. Well...except for Royals shortstop Alcides Escobar! It was a little bloop but Escobar chased it so well and times his elegant leap perfectly to catch the ball and get the out. The Royals beat the Mariners 4-3. 4. Lonnie Chisenhall (Cleveland Indians) The ball was lifted to short right. Second baseman, Jason Kipnis was out and he had a very good reason for it. Lonnie Chisenhall calls for the ball and gets it on a diving catch. I am pretty sure he had one eye on the ball and the other on his second baseman to make everything so perfect. The Indians however fall to the Twins 4-2. 3. Cameron Maybin (Atlanta Braves) We've seen a lot of elegant leaps today. But you have to give Maybin credit for his leap on the warning track, near the fence. The breaking ball was lined to center but he backed quickly and showed us that center field was his territory. Very nice play from the Braves centerfielder! The Braves beat the Mets 6-3. 2. Kyle Schwarber (Chicago Cubs) It went high in the air but Schwarber never took his eyes off the ball as soon as it made contact with the bat. He had a quick start and times his dive perfectly to catch the ball on the warning track. I seriously don't know how he caught it. He went all out for it as you can see him slide all the way to the fence. Despite Schwarber's fantastic play, the Cubs fell to the Brewers 4-1. 1. Yogi Berra Tribute Yes. Number one goes to Yogi Berra, as his life and career is celebrated around Major League Baseball. I would like to pay my respect to one of the greatest baseball players. He wasn't just a great baseball player though. He was a great man and he will truly be missed. RIP Yogi Berra (1925 - 2015) Now that was your Top 5 Plays of the Day from last night's games! Love It Or Hate It: Live Sporting Events?
Welcome to the Funny Community game, Love It Or Hate It! This game is really similar to Monday's 'No Good or So Good' food game - except this one deals a lot more with non-food things. Every week, I highlight a different thing that a lot of people either really love or really hate and see how our community feels overall! Last week, I asked you how you felt about SELFIE STICKS. It was an EXTREMELY tight vote, but out of the 60 who gave your opinion, 33 of you said that they're actually kind of useful! Soooo... SELFIE STICKS WIN!!!! This week, I want to know: How do you feel about attending live sports games? Spectator sports have been around since the days of Ancient Greece, but the ones we know and love today came into being in the mid 19th century! The number of Americans that attend at least one live sporting event annually is easily in the tens of millions. However, the amount of them that find said sporting event COMPLETELY BORING is still widely unknown. How do YOU feel about spectator sports? Are they tons of fun or brutally boring? MLB Top Plays of the Day (09/20/15)
Here are your Top 5 Plays of the Day! 5. Matt Duffy (San Francisco Giants) A ground ball hit slowly on the third baseline wasn't going to stop Matt Duffy make this amazing play! He made the throw across his body and retired Nick Ahmed to end the inning. The ball looked like it was going to be an infield hit but Duffy made this exceptional play and let the Giants to a 5-1 win over the Diamondbacks. 4. Chase Utley (Los Angeles Dodgers) The ball was shot up the middle but Chase Utley smothered the ball and made a perfect throw on one knee to first to get the out! The 36 year-old veteran has shown strong defense throughout his entire career and this was just one more play that he added to his repertoire. The Dodgers however fell to the Pirates 4-3. 3. David Murphy (Los Angeles Angels) A strong line drive was hit to left field but David Murphy wasn't going to allow any hits. Murphy chased the ball, lunged for it, and made a beautiful diving catch to end the inning. HIs team however fell to the hot Twins 8-1. 2. Eugenio Suarez (Cincinnati Reds) Eugenio Suarez backhanded that ball and it was a long throw to first. It seemed like a very close call but the first base umpire first ruled the play safe. Reds manager Bryan Price however wasn't going to let it go without a challenge. And after a video review, the decision was overturned and his amazing play even got better with that out. It's always so tough to get a lot out of a throw like that but he made it into a perfect play. The Reds however lost 8-4 against the Milwaukee Brewers. 1. Jason Heyward (St. Louis Cardinals) It was a fly ball lifted into right field. Heyward however wasn't going to be satisfied with just one out. He throws a laser beam to home plate and gets it in time for two outs. He got into a perfect throwing position, it was a perfect throw, and he wowed everyone with a double play. And the Cardinals who are the number one ranked team in the MLB, beat the Chicago Cubs, the third best team in the MLB 4-3. Now that was your Top 5 Plays of the Day from last night's games!
