Michael Oher from "The Blind Side" is going to the Super Bowl!
Michael Oher, the left tackle for the Carolina Panthers, will be going to the Super Bowl after he and his teammates crushed the Arizona Cardinals in the NFC Championship game. And yes, he is that Michael Oher from the Blind Side. And on Sunday, Leigh Anne and Sean Tuohy, the couple that adopted Oher and helped him to make it to the NFL (as depicted in the book and movie, "The Blind Side", attended the game to show their support for Oher. They went onto the field to celebrate the Panthers' victory over the Cardinals. Michael Oher was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft after earning All-American honors at Ole Miss. He also won a Super Bowl with the Ravens in 2013. Now, he will try to go for his second Super Bowl ring. Oher said a lot of his Carolina teammates like to pick on him about the movie. Oher said he doesn't mind, because it helped him fit right in with the group. But he's personally not a fan of the movie and stated, "People look at me, and they take things away from me because of a movie." Well, he may not be a fan of the movie, "The Blind Side", but he sure is a fan of the family that is portrayed in the movie. Have my football fans seen the movie, "The Blind Side"? For those of you that haven't watched the movie, it's based on a true story about a high school football team, in a town that is racially divided. And for the first time, the team becomes racially integrated and an African American coach is newly appointed in the head coaching spot. They all have their differences and troubles in the beginning, but through football, they come together as one. And there is this one scene that gets me every single time I watch this movie. Julius visits Gary who is in the hospital after a horrible car accident. Gary is paralyzed from the waist down and when Julius walks into the room, the nurse stops him, saying only kins are allowed. Gary responds, "Alice, are you blind? Don't you see the family resemblance? That's my brother." In a time when we are so divided by our race, religion, background...I think there is still hope in this world where we can become brothers, we can become sisters, we can become family despite our differences. In the final moments of the movie, these words are said: "People say that it can't work, black and white. Here, we make it work every day. Hello sports fans! It's Friday the 13th! Here are some of the strangest superstitions in sports! Michael Jordan Michael always wore his UNC shorts under his NBA shorts. Thus, he wore longer shorts than his fellow players at that time. In the end however, his fellow players followed suit after the legend. Serena Williams Serena Williams is known for not changing socks once during a tournament. It sucks to wear a pair of socks for more than a day...imagine how it would feel to wear the same socks for an entire tournament! I guess Serena doesn't mind it considering the number of tournaments she has won. Brian Ulracher Brian Ulracher ate two chocolate chip cookies before every game. Maybe that was the secret to his muscular body. I think it'd be fair to call him the "Cookie Monster". Caron Butler Caron Butler was known to be an avid fan of Mountain Dew. He loved the drink so much that he drank before and during every game. During his UNC days, he asked his wife to pick him a 2-L bottle of the green stuff, and drank half of it before the game, and the rest during half-time. In 2007, the Wizards and NBA banned him from drinking it during games so he eventually quit the whole thing in 2009. Moises Alou This one has to be the most f*cked up one out of all of them. Moises Alou used to pee on his own hands to harden them! Should we see that as commitment to the game of baseball or just some pretty weird ass shit? College Rugby: Its Not Just About The Beer, But There Is Beer
When I stumbled into the involvement fair as a wee little freshmen I was there to sign up me and my new best friend (who I knew for a total of 3 days thus far) for Ski Club. I must have gotten a bit turned around because, by the time I got back to the dorm and walked into Ayanas room I told her I signed us both up for Rugby instead. "What?" I asked as she stared at me in shock. "They said we didn't need to know how to play and they wouldn't yell at us. "Also practice is monday-friday and starts tomorrow byeeeeeeeeeeee", and with that, we were on the team. And I think it is safe to say that Rugby should pretty much be a requirement for any girl who likes to have fun. You will meet the best friends ever playing Rugby. No one quite understands the struggles of a rugby girl, except another rugby girl. I have laughed, cried, thrown up and thought about dying, all in just one rugby game. And the girls were right there with me. We're a crowd who thinks bruises make us a lot sexier then push up bras and we have each others backs no matter what. Also blood does not faze us. Who gives a shit about body shaming Rugby girls get the a terrible rap. People always think of them as fat, ugly, or brick walls. Which is why its awesome to roll up wit a party looking super fit, super hot and ready to drink all the haters under the table. Female rugby players gotta stick together. And we do. So the body shaming ends the second you get into your rugby lifestyle (and it is a lifestyle). Get ready to be showed with support about how strong and amazing you are. You develop a dedication Its hard to stick with something, especially when it eats up every waking moment of your life. You fit practice around work and class, then your games are all day Saturday which makes Friday team bonding and carb loading. You may wonder why you are bothering when yore awake at 5:30 AM for an away game but the second you see your teammates, you'll get hype as fuck to mess people up. You learn ways to kick the shit outta anyone Rugby girls are a rowdy bunch. Not only do we have to deal with getting kick in the face almost every day at practice, we also have to deal with the male rugby team. No matter what happens, you will be able to stand up for yourself. Bar fights, street harassment or just plan assholes, gone are the days where you will be the meek girls standing in the corner. Rugby teaches you that you do need to have balls to have balls. I learned how to fucking Party You may think you know how to drink buttttt you don't. Your first drink up (aka getting drunk after a game) you leaned how to shoot the boot (both a glass and a shoe), win boat races and funnel full bottles of wine.
