US Sends Bombers Into China's New Zone of Air Defense
The United States has sent a pair of B-52 strategic bombers through the controversial Chinese air defense zone (see my previous card). China has declared the existence of the new zone in an attempt to exert de-facto joint control over the Senkaku islands (owned by Japan). Defense Secretary Hagel stated that the Senkaku islands are part of the US-Japan mutual defense treaty. This means that the United States must consider any conflict between China and Japan over the islands as an attack on the US....
