Who: Reader x Kwon Minsik
What: Gang AU, Smut (later), Angst
Story: Your best friend, Minsik has been serving time in prison for some time. He's been released after three years behind bars and you're ready to ease him back into society while he adjusts to the new life he's about to live....
Y/n's POV
Minsik's hands balled into fists as he let you go. He started pacing the floor.
"I'm going to kill him."
"No stop, I'm not going to be the reason you go back to jail." You said.
"That doesn't matter right now he put his fucking hands on you." He seethed.
He paced past you and you walked up to him begging him to stop. He cupped your face with his hands. He brought his forehead to yours. He was panting heavily.
"Just calm down." You pleaded with him.
You knew this would be his reaction. You knew he cared more about your safety than anything, you knew that he hated any man's hands on you. Anyone but him, he hated every bit of it because he knew how it made you feel. He knew how those flashes in your mind came back and haunted you.
"Where did he touch you Y/n?"
"He just kissed me it was nothing bad I promise."
Minsik looked even more furious but mixed in that fury he looked beyond hurt. He wrapped his arms around you and hugged you. His chest still rose and fell in his fury as he clutched onto you. You hugged him back knowing how upset he was.
"Now it makes sense why you were shaking." He said.
You had kissed the others in the host club with no problem. It was more because you knew it was coming and you could refuse or allow the kiss all you wanted. The shock from Jihyun's kiss had freaked you out. Your mind automatically went to the worst thing that could happen. You were glad Christian was there to pull you away. Jihyun had probably already seen that look in your eyes though. You weren't showing him a fear you had of him you were showing him the fear you had of someone else and that was no good either.
Minsik wouldn't speak again until he calmed down. You hugged him tightly feeling comfort in his embrace. Back when he was locked up you had missed being able to throw your arms around him. At one point you exchanged a conjugal visit just so you could get into a room with him and hug him. You guys just hugged for a moment. You had soaked that in because you missed it so much and then you two sat down and talked. A few times you grabbed his hand and held it. It was only a one time thing in the three years he was locked up, other wise you sang happy birthday to him from the other side of the glass with the others. You talked to him from the other side, you came to visit him for Christmas and when you couldn't visit him on some days when you were sick you'd call him. He'd call you a dummy and tell you he didn't want to hear your sick voice over the phone so he'd tell you to take care of yourself and get some rest and then you could come see him.
Minsik came and pulled you down to the couch to sit next to him and he looked you in the eyes.
"What did he say to you Y/n?"
You sighed,
"He talked about a hostess club he's making that he wants me to join."
"That's it?" He said suspiciously.
You shook your head.
"Sik I don't know what it is but for some reason he needs you. He finds some value in you and I know it has nothing to do with your debt. He said he'd forgive you if you just drop the drugs off to my father and if I joined his hostess club. I could work off the rest of your debt."
"Y/n the money isn't even significant I have enough stashed away to pay him back but there's a reason I'm not. What did you tell him?"
"Nothing." You said.
You reached into your bra and pulled out the card he'd given you. You handed it to Minsik and he looked at it.
"He told me to call him when I made a decision." You said.
"So you've got twenty four hours at best to give him an answer."
"Sik he knows I'm going to report back to you. There's no way he's told me everything. However, if you're going to be free just let me take the deal. I told you I'll turn my face from it as long as that's the last thing. He said I wouldn't do anything illegal there. I suppose even Jihyun has legitimate businesses right?"
"Right but it's to make sure he's still earning money even if he goes to jail. I don't want you working for him he's too dangerous. He could take you down with him."
"Sik."
"Y/n I know this guy."
"I'm not saying you don't. Look, I'm just trying to figure out what's best for your future. You promised me when you were behind bars that there would be no more of this shit. You told me you'd leave them okay so if doing this helped you leave them then why argue against it?"
"Because babe even you said it yourself he sees me as valuable. He won't stop watching us; he'll look for another moment when I'm weak or we're struggling, he'll look for something Y/n. You know this won't be the end."
"I'm scared he'll kill you Minsik."
"He won't."
"Can you promise me that? What if this is what it's all about, what if he tries to kill you? He told me he'll deal with your debt himself. Sik I can't handle not having you around. It's one thing to be locked up but how am I supposed to live without you?" You said with tears welling up to the surface.
You blinked and they spilled over. You looked away to wipe your eyes with your hand. He scooted over to you and wrapped his arms around you.
"Look, can you just wait before you give him an answer? Can you trust me babe?"
"Of course I trust you."
"Then don't call him until I tell you to okay?"
You nodded.
"Where was Christian?" He asked.
"He was there he was close, he pulled Jihyun away when he kissed me. Then he followed me home. He didn't leave till I opened the door."
"Good. How about we get into pajamas and I'll order take out. We can watch a movie together okay?"
You nodded and got up to go upstairs.
Harry's POV
Harry really didn't want to be in the middle of Minsik and Ju Kyung's war but as he was finding out this went a little deeper than Ju Kyung and Sik fighting. Jihyun was pulling strings to get to Minsik but more importantly to get to Y/n. He'd found out through the grape vine that Jihyun wanted Y/n to work at his hostess club. Her being the daughter of Park Yong Nam was known to some of his investors and they wanted a chance to meet her. They wanted to get to her so they could get to Yong Nam. Whether that meant business or reality Harry wasn't sure.
Minsik would be pissed when he heard that but he wanted the truth. Ju Kyung had hinted to something Jihyun wanted from Minsik that made Harry wonder what Minsik did before he was in jail. He remembered some of the guns weren't found and everything that was taken by the police wasn't everything that was in their shipment.
They were still trying to find the rat that had ruined that drop off. Minsik needed to play nice and not get himself into anymore trouble or he'd go back in for good. Him and Y/n were too close they did a lot for each other. They had always openly admitted they loved each other but they meant it as friends. Harry suspected something other wise at least from Minsik's side. He was territorial about her, he always had been but Harry supposed, because they grew up together, Minsik would know her a lot deeper than he did. Whatever happened to her it made him her guardian even Harry could tell how her mood had changed when he got locked up. She even took to smoking, she didn't walk around as happy as she used to and she pushed her friends away, even Harry himself. She'd kept them at more of a distance like now that her chain link fence was gone she had no protection from her neighbors. Minsik was her protection so she didn't have to worry but she was worried for a good three years. Even when she knew she was being followed. Harry knew she was being followed.
He had no idea the deals he made with Jihyun or Ju Kyung. Minsik must've owed Jihyun something, it had to be bigger than just money. There had to be something that he needs Minsik for but it was hard to find out exactly what that was. He was listening in on a conversation that Ju Kyung was having over the phone. He wasn't sure who he was talking too at first all he could really hear was Ju Kyung talking about the last shipment of drugs he was sending out. There was a surprise in Ju Kyung's voice suddenly,
"You want me to what?" He said.
Ju Kyung sighed,
"Why would I pull back a shipment like this? We can't trust him- what about the little bird?" He said.
Harry knew he was talking about Y/n because of her nickname from Minsik. Ju Kyung teased the name by calling her a little bird. She was still little but she had a fiery attitude that couldn't be beat. Ju Kyung both liked and hated that about her.
"I know but she's very disconnected with her father Ji. Her being a hostess won't change anything." He said.
A hostess? For the new club he'd over taken? Harry had seen it as they were reconstructing the inside. He saw the safe that Jihyun installed and even the drugs that they were loading in. No, she was already a hostess somewhere else why would she take a job with Jihyun, he thought?
"You do know you're playing with fire right? Not just with Minsik, he'd give everything for that girl but her father is a different story. If he finds out she's working for you, he'll show up there and destroy the place. He's been trying to find her for a while now."
"And why do you think I haven't let him find her yet?" Jihyun's voice suddenly joined the empty room in a slightly static echo.
Ju Kyung had put him on speaker phone and Harry tried to listen even more closely.
"Y/n and Minsik are tied together. Anything he does she defends and protects; anything she does he defends and protects. I don't doubt that Minsik never told her anything about this life, that would be his only way to ensure that she was truly never in danger with us. Minsik still knows where the rest of the cargo is and that cargo went down with Kiseok. He's the last key to finding Kiseok and when I do I can put a bullet in his head."
"Then what about Y/n what does she really have to do with this?"
"She's an interesting girl don't you agree?" Jihyun chuckled.
"Yeah somewhat, she's got a lot of attitude."
"Yes but she entertains well and the clients that mingle between both mine and her father's company could use her kind of entertainment. She's just a way to get his men on my side and grow a better relationship. There's someone specifically I want her to entertain. A man that goes by the name of Lee Seonghwa. He's older than her but he deals in transportation for cargo. If we can make him a good friend I would benefit well."
"So she's just a business pawn."
"Mostly yes. I need her to get them on my side. The fact that her father works for them just makes things more convincing that we're all partners here. She also works in helping me manipulate Minsik into delivering Kiseok and the lost cargo to me. He listens to her but more than anything he protects her. "
"Fine, then I'll hold the carry order but Mr.Park and his son Johnny won't be happy about this." Ju Kyung said.
Mr.Park was Y/n's father. She'd never mentioned her brothers but Johnny was Mr.Park's son meaning they were related. Harry had only met Johnny twice but he hated him immediately. He seemed like a brat that was handed things in life. He had it easy. Even Y/n did, Minsik said that Harry didn't Know Y/n as well as Minsik did but he still felt that she had life way too easy. Her parents had money and nice things meanwhile him and even Minsik's families were struggling to survive.
It was hard to leave the gang once you were in it but it wasn't impossible. Minsik just had too many loose ends. He should've thought about that when he'd made that promise to Y/n. He should've explained it to her.
Everyman pays back their debts.
If it was true and Minsik really knew where Kiseok was then he had to becareful not to get caught in the cross fire and not to bring Y/n into the mess. It sounded as if Jihyun really only wanted to use her for his businesses sake but it was nothing illegal. Harry wasn't sure that Minsik would like that either.
Minsik's POV
They were about halfway through the movie before Y/n was knocked out on his lap. His hand had been combing through her hair softly to keep her asleep. He continued to watch the movie without moving, he didn't want to wake her up but when she was that deep into sleep she didn't wake up easily. He still didn't want to risk it. Once the movie was over though, he would carry her upstairs and into bed. He wondered why she even bothered making him a room, he slept in her room every night.
He was used to having her in his room. Even after three years in prison it, was just such an engraved habit that it didn't make sense not to sleep in her room. Ji Na hated that when they were dating and she quickly told him to stop. He did it just to make her happy. If he thought about it hard enough he might be able to remember a moment he actually felt something for Ji Na but the way her and Y/n always went at it he knew it wouldn't last. Y/n's warnings of her were right but he kept her around anyway. She had a purpose, she was a distraction not necessarily for him but for the others around him. She had nice curves and a nice face. Most of the guys in his gang would be distracted by her.
She helped him unwittingly get Kiseok to safety. Kiseok and Minsik had teamed up together to take some of Jihyun's cargo. They both knew that the percentage that they were taking would eventually show up, which was why Minsik was trying to help Kiseok go into hiding. Kiseok willingly went into hiding just to get the money that they were stashing away. Minsik had his cut from helping Kiseok. He had the money that Jihyun wanted and based off the deal he was trying to make with Y/n he was willing to forget about the money he owed him so long as Y/n earned it back.
Minsik didn't purposely put her in that situation. In hindsight, he hadn't thought far enough to consider Jihyun going after her. Minsik had a skill at negotiating but he was also skilled at taking people out. He never wanted Y/n to know about the amount of gang members he'd killed because Jihyun had issued a hit. The police never found that out about him. He was clean and he did things swift and easy. It also helped that they had some inside help. Any lingering evidence would disappear before the police showed up or it would go missing or get destroyed before they could get a lead on him. They said they did it in a subtle way but Minsik didn't kill unless he was given an order to or it was survival. He did come back to Y/n one night with a bullet in his arm. He had to coach her through getting it out and sewing him up even though she wanted to take him to a hospital.
Minsik didn't want to over throw Jihyun but he did want to leave him for Y/n's sake. It seemed the only real way that he could do that was by killing him. Except, now, a new opportunity presented itself. One that may have been safer for Y/n in the long run. He just wasn't sure on what he should do about her going to work for Jihyun. She was never about money but he was sure Jihyun tried to coax her with the amount she'd make with him. He'd done the same to him all the time, he knew how much money was important to him. To help his parents and himself live. If he could keep Christian on her he'd feel safer though and he told her he'd pay for that if necessary.
There was a knock on the door and Minsik looked down at Y/n to make sure she was still knocked out. He didn't want to move, she was in the prefect position for herself and him. She was warm and he was comfortable but the knock came again and he didn't want the knocks to become louder or for someone to bust through the door and scare her. Minsik didn't doubt that Ju Kyung might do that himself. He raised her up and lightly laid her down on the couch again and went to the door.
"Harry?" Minsik said.
"Hey, can I come in?" He asked.
Minsik nodded but motioned for him to be quiet. He made his way back over to Y/n and he lifted her back onto his body to try and find that same comfortable position. It wasn't the same though. Harry sat down in front of him on the single chair and said,
"I've got news. Is it okay to talk about this in front of her?"
"Don't worry she's knocked out. When she's like this, it takes a lot more to wake her up." He said.
Harry nodded and started,
"Well he's trying to get to Kiseok but I'm sure you already knew that. He knows that you know where he is and he wants the cargo that he took with him."
"I figured as much."
"Hey do you know that he wants Y/n as a hostess?"
"Yeah he showed up at her job tonight and offered her the job. I've asked her not to give him an answer until I tell her. We don't have that much time. He'll keep coming for her even if she refuses." Minsik said.
"You're right about that. Apparently, some guy named Lee Seonghwa helps with transportation in cargo, he's the best. Jihyun wanted the hostess club to loosen up his business partners before meetings or after to decompress. He really wants Seonghwa. I think if she does become his hostess and does it well she'll still be covered by Jihyun. He won't hurt her, he needs her for right now."
"I don't like the idea of sending her out to his club every night." He said.
"Well Jihyun owns other businesses and he's got a lot on his plate. You can take comfort in the fact that she won't see him that often. You didn't see him that often either. Getting Y/n is more than just a plot to scare you, she's really a benefit to his operation just by being a hostess. It would be legitimate."
Minsik sighed,
"I don't know about it but maybe I should just let her go. She can take care of herself if things get out of hand I just don't want to put her in a position to be used by men." He said.
"Well it's her decision right?"
Minsik looked at Harry. He was right but Minsik still didn't want her getting involved with Jihyun.
Suddenly, Y/n began go move in her sleep. She was whining in her sleep. It was almost a whimper and then she started to toss a little. Minsik looked down at her worried and tried to move her to make her comfortable.
"No." She whimpered.
Minsik felt sick. If she was dreaming about what he thought she was dreaming about he wanted to wake her up. She was crying in her sleep but she'd stopped moving. Her bottom lip quivered and Minsik shook her to wake her up Harry stood up to leave and he said,
"I'll talk to you tomorrow."
"Okay."
Minsik picked up Y/n and carried her upstairs to bed. He tried to wake her again but it seemed that she had settled after a few moments. He had whispered in her ear that he had her and that he was there and she seemed to settle and her crying stopped....
