Elrics and Winchesters

Recently started my FMAB rewatch and came across this Fullmetal Alchemist/Supernatural comparison. (I know the text is kinda small and grainy, so I've deciphered it for you below. Couldn't find a higher res copy...)
It's a story about two brothers
Their mothers died when they were young

Their fathers' whereabouts are unknown

They both have BAMF mentors

The writers of both shows bring someone in, make you like them, and then kill them

One of the brothers has died at least once
(this one's almost comical in the case of SPN)

Complicated symbols is a valid reason
(not sure I read that one right...)

Both older brothers have a height complex

Childhood events have altered the younger brothers. Sam has demon blood and Al doesn't have a body

Not sure I 100% agree with all of these; I feel like some of them kinda lose validity at some point after season 5 of SPN (though kinda imagining the Elrics' reaction if they knew Mary Winchester was resurrected! Granted, they have God's sister to thank for that, but still...), but still doesn't feel like too much of a stretch! Not saying they're the same show or anything, but especially the essence of the brothers' relationships are strikingly similar...

Anyway, thoughts? Discuss!

What Was Your First Fandom?
There's nothing like your first. Vingle is awesome because it feels like no matter how obscure my fandom is, there's always someone else here who's into it! So let's take a trip down nostalgia lane and find out how it all began... The Superwholock fandom Did you dive headfirst into the wonderful wild world of Supernatural, Doctor Who, or Sherlock? I was away from fandom for a while, but some amazing Sherlock fic brought me back in. And you all know how that went! Now it's all fanfiction all the time here! Anime fandom I know there are a lot of you out there! The first fic I ever read was anime (and trust me, you don't want to know about the fic that I *wrote*. It was a monstrosity). Lord of the Rings fandom If you speak Elvish, you have my respect. The Marvel/DC fandom Superhero movies seem like they're here to stay. Whether it was Marvel or DC, Daredevil or the Dark Knight, you're gonna have a lot of fun in the coming years! And of course I'll be right there with you. Star Wars fandom I'm so happy for you all. I know Sherlockians have been called the fandom that waited... but you all really waited, didn't you? The Fandom that Lives Harry Potter is definitely a global fandom, and we haven't seen the likes of it before or since. The first fandom Star Trek inspired fandom as we know it today. The fic, the cons, the culture... to use an inappropriate quote "I was alone and I owe you so much". WAS THERE A FANDOM I MISSED??? If so please don't think I love you any less! In fact I probably want to know all about it. Share your first fandom experience!!! Were you a livejournaler in the days of Cassie Clare? Did you get sucked into Tumblr during Mishagate? Or were you one of the old school fans subscribing to zines in the mail? Or hey, is Vingle the first place you've let yourself fan the freak out? That would be awesome too. Let's get excited about our first fandoms!!!
5 Struggles Every Shipper Has
Whatever your fandom, the struggle is real. We all know these feels. We might fight in ship wars against each other, we might accidentally insult someone's OTP or be totally confused by each others' obsessions... But at the end of the day fans need to stick together. Because if you ship, eventually you're going to run into these problems. And you'll need someone to commiserate with. 1. You can never find that perfect fic Whether your OTP is the current fandom favorite or an obscure couple only five other people have ever heard of, it can feel like an impossible task to find the *perfect* fic. Sure, you'll read (and love) yet ANOTHER coffee shop au full of tropes you know like the back of your hand, but you'll be craving something more for the rest of your shipper life. And don't even talk to be about that unfinished WIP I've been checking for the past three years. 2. Your Ship > Your Sleep Schedule When is the last time you went to bed instead of staying up late reading fanfiction? Does it feel like never? Because it feels like never to me. You forgo silly mortal needs like sleep for more important things like digging up more images of your OTP, beta-ing just one more chapter, or rolling around in feels. And speaking of feels... 3. EVERYTHING gives you feels Every song on the radio? Written for your OTP. Every time you order coffee? You get the same order as your favorite character. Literally everything anyone says? Your shipper brain will find a way to react to it and you will be overwhelmed by feels. It's a constant barrage and there is no escape. 4. The world doesn't get you And vise-versa. Shippers tend to create our own special language, and we start to speak it exclusively. I can absolutely tell you what "ao3 mcu a:aou abo bdsm ot3 hs au pwp" means, but I have no idea what the Pythagorean theorem is. Look at our lives, look at our choices. (And before you ask, you know you'd read that fic, don't lie). 5. You've got a family for life The shipper family is one of the most welcoming, creative, beautiful groups of people I've ever encountered. There's so much love in this community. We scream and cry and FEEL like the world is ending... and we're all in it together. Whatever your ship, you're always welcome among us. You've always got a home. ... there's nothing like a weird Harry Potter gif to break up the feels parade. Let's show some pride shippers! Anime, Superwholock, HP, Trek, Marvel... How much do you relate to this?
Badass Women of Anime: Izumi Curtis
Badass women exist all over anime. It's why I made this collection! This being Women's History Month, I think it is only apt for us all to reflect on the dope women in our personal lives as well as the characters in the anime we love. More often than not, women prove to be some of the strongest of all characters. One woman I'm a huge fan of is Izumi from Fullmetal Alchemist. Izumi is the woman who taught Edward and Alphonse Elric all they know about alchemy. She instructed them in the alchemical arts as well as in physical, martial combat. Izumi is one of very few people who have seen beyond the Gate of Truth, and sacrificed some of her internal organs for the ability, much like Ed with his arm and leg, or Al with his whole body. Her temper and anger are things that should rightfully be feared by anyone around her, and indeed the Elric brothers remember vividly some of the fierceness of her lessons, though it is clear that she cares very deeply for the boys. More than just a teacher or a background character, Izumi is more than capable of kicking ass on her own. She's taken on a handful of powerful enemies, even though she struggles with internal injuries, the result of her attempting human transmutation. Her relationship is one of the only romantic engagements in the anime, and it is a beautiful thing of love and synergy between her and her husband Sig. Seriously. Izumi Curtis is a bona fide badass, though one with a lot of love and care in her heart.
