Galaxy Girls: Get to Know Red Velvet As much as I try to deny SM Entertainment makes some of the best groups out there, from SNSD (2007) to H.O.T (1996). SM just has this magical touch that makes you want to notice their artist. In 2014 the company did it again with Red Velvet. Red Velvet is a 5-member girl group under SM Entertainment, and has gathered much attention since their debut song Happiness. The members of Galaxy Girls and I have spilt up the member and group introductions- when the other cards come out I will link them- to help you get to know the group a bit better before their comeback! Meet Wendy! Wendy was born on February 21, 1994 in Seoul, South Korea as Son Seung-wan. In her fifth year of elementary Seung-wan moved to Ontario, Canada where she lived with her older sister until she moved to Minnesota, USA. It was in American she received her English name Wendy Son. She later moved back to Canada this time calling Toronto home. Unknow to many people, Wendy first auditioned for Cube Entertainment in 2011 with their Global Audition. She was a finalist and got to perform at G.NA’s showcases. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K75toJTrNcM Although Wendy didn’t make into Cube’s trainee program, she didn’t give up. In 2012, she trusted her talent and auditioned for S.M Global Auditions in Canada. After passing the audition she was put through two years of training. On March 14,2014 she was officially introduced as part of the Rookie crew and received love for her release of “Because I Love You”, part of Mnet’s drama Mimi. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDMLANstgGI On August 1, 2014, Wendy made her official debut as the main vocalist in SM’S first girl group in five years, Red Velvet. Red Velvet’s debut song, "Happiness", quickly captured the hearts of Korean and International fans with it catchy beat and easy to follow dance. In 2015, Wendy and rapper Yuk Jidam collaborated on an OST (“Return”) for the drama “Who Are You: School 2015”. The song, released in June, highlighted Wendy’s powerful and smooth voice, and showcased her ability to hit high notes effortlessly. The song debuted at number 31 on the Goan Singles Charts. 4 months later (October), Wendy released another OST (“Let You Know”) for the drama “D-Day”. In 2016, Wendy became part of the panel group for the variety show “We Got Married”. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZ7v2mImF7A A few months later Wendy joined the show “King of Mask Singer” under the name Space Beauty Maetel. In July, Wendy and Seulgi participated in Uncontrollably Found’s OST with the song “Don’t Push Me”. In October Wendy became part of the panel group for KBS’ variety show Trick & True. For the month of December, Wendy shared two beautiful winter songs as part of SM Station. Her songs “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” and “Sound of Your Heart” featured pianist Moon Jung-jae and violinist Nile Lee.
