Post High School Options for Millennials
Growing up in the 21st century affords the youths of today known as millennials many work and study opportunities after they graduate high school. It is a time of uncertainty for many in this generation as they resolve how they want to spend the next four years of their lives. For those in this category, they need not fear as they have many choices during this time known as the gap year. Here are a few bright ideas that post-high school millennials can consider. Volunteering If you are pondering a career in health care, for example, but are not yet ready or committal, consider volunteering in your local hospital. You can explore the inner workings of various departments and observe the daily interactions of health professionals with their patients. Communicating with and spending time with patients to liven their day is a tremendously good deed whose rewards cannot be measured in money. Tending the reception area and greeting incoming patients is another opportunity to hone your customer service skills. Taking a ride in an ambulance in active duty and assisting paramedics in emergencies may be permissible, depending on the requirements. You may need to first graduate EMT training before being permitted to volunteer as a paramedic. Volunteering in the area of interest provides one a sense of fulfillment and accomplishment as a valued member of society. A Year Abroad If you are interested in learning about foreign cultures and experiencing a year abroad after high school graduation, you may check out several student exchange programs. There is less school pressure living and studying abroad as a graduate. Some colleges may accept total immersion in a foreign culture as life experience credit. Paid and unpaid opportunities to serve on behalf of the United States government in foreign-service related fields may be available for recent high school graduates exploring the possibility of federal careers on the horizon. Whether you are learning a new language or volunteering, check out some of the best gap year programs available. Apprenticeship While spending four years in a traditional college may not be a viable option, a high school graduate who is interested in working and gaining a vocational skill may wish to enroll in some type of apprenticeship. Traditionally, an apprentice spends quality time with an expert craftsman to learn the skills of the trade while being paid as an assistant. Today, the term youth apprenticeship is no longer limited to this traditional scope. Organizations both in the private and public sector exist to help high school graduates to learn and earn in a diverse area of skills, from corporate banking to construction. The federal government also supports such programs and has invested heavily in increasing the workforce through the youth apprenticeship channel. Millennials are essential members of society as they provide fresh input and a loud voice to the social structure. It is important to support them while they navigate their way through the sometimes complicated paths of life towards adulthood. Life is full of meaning when any member of society, millennials included, feels needed and appreciated as a valuable contributor to their immediate family, community, and society-at-large.
Korean Winter Street Foods
Korea is proud of its food, but it REALLY proud of its street food. There are different foods depending on the season, and I have to say that winter is the best. Here's a list of foods you MUST TRY if you get the chance: 군고구마 (kun go-gu-ma) 군 means "roasted" and 고구마 is Korean sweet potato. The potato is roasted in a huge barrel oven, then handed to you with the skin still on. It's your job to peel it and eat the sweet goodness inside. You can buy an entire bag if you want! 호떡 (ho-ddeok) 호떡 is sort of a pancake/donut combination. It is fried dough filled with cinnamon, sugar, and occasionally nuts. It is flattened into a pancake shape and handed to you in a tiny paper cup. Be careful with the first bite because the inside are often boiling hot! (There are also vegetable versions but the dessert version is much better in my opinion!) 군밤 (kun bam) We just learned that 군 means roasted and now we learn another word: 밤 means chestnut! Just like in New York where there are roasted nut stands everywhere around Christmas time, the cold weather brings out the roasted chestnut vendors. 계란빵 (kye-ran bbang) 계란 means egg while 빵 means bread so voila! Egg bread! The bread part is similar to corn bread, but a little less corn-y and the egg is steamed on top to make a really, really delicious combo. It's my favorite street food after 군고구마 :D 호두과자 (ho-du kwa-ja) The small of this is unnnnbelievable! 호두 means walnut and 과자 means cookie or snack. Therefore 호두과자 is a walnut cookie! They are shaped like walnuts and filled with sweet red bean. You can buy these by the bag full too! 회오리감자 (hwae-o-ri kam-ja) LOOK AT THESE THINGS! They are called 회오리감자 because 회오리 means tornado and 감자 means potato. Behold the potato tornado! I have NO idea how you eat these :) Have you guys tried any of these? Which are your favorite? @NysA @xanderskissme @AmbieB @Jiyongixoxo @BabySheep @phantomsluvr @Rhia @VixenViVi @JohnEvans @RobertMarsh @ElizabethT @ArmyofKookie @shantalcamara @KittyKpop @jannatd93 @cthulu @HarperKennett @musicundefined9 @DekaraMiller @Mahealani @kpoplove89 @tannyo @IMNII @kpopisnylife @KoreanLove2 @lawtont @baileykayleen @oceanseokjin @Sammie99522 @RoyallyPrincess @heidichiesa @asterkimchee @CurrySoop @malibella @puppycatX0X0 @notgucci3 @Lizzeh @reallychelsea @JorgeRAMME @adikiller @blazinpurplehl @kvnguyen @lupemontserrat @ParkMinRin13 @peytoncarter2 @aguileragissel @FallingByeol @adritha13 @toughcookie @TesneemElAlami @VWolf12XOXO @ToyaH @aleciaLOVES @no5alive @AnnahiZaragoza @TravelSizedGirl @kthyl @Adetoro @linzi0302 @hahabts @primodiva93 @cindystran @Saeda1320 @misssukyi @preeta @Yearnin2learn @DorisMay27 @iforisabelle @TLeahEdwards @robertakm64 @azaraa @JeanNwagbuo @aliahwhbmida @WiviDemol @ariana2k @sosoaloraine23 @hisundays @3mmY4 @sukkyongwanser @asterkimchee @misssukyi @MandySpaulding @LatoyaHudson @Claymorex @SaraHelguero @thatkdramalover @sierradimes @TokkiGwiyomi @AnelVega @KaiTakashima @UKissMeKevin @jemitza @VWolf12XOXO @HuonTreeRoo @lovebluecolor @kel53 @JezziCrypt @LysetteMartinez @Fleurdemai00 @oxSoZeroxo @k0reanbbyq @ceramoore3 @YessicaCardenas @Kuramariin @jannatd93 @herreravanessa9 @WiviDemol @VixenViVi @Roxy1903 @NiaLuv19 @kmayong @Baekyeol27 @9thMuse @Ilikepancakes @CandaceJordan @RobertMarsh @KiKi29 @Rhia @AnnahiZaragoza @YGWinner @EllieDean @LizaNightshade @panouvang123 @sherrysahar @mistymaity @GuerlyReyes @maralatto @shantalcamara @paszikelly @SerenaMcG @unbreakable1109 @Diablo6 @YessicaCardenas @Tigerlily84 @JorgeRAMME @Bose @AegyoBunny @VivianCrespoMed @Airess95 @SHINee808 @DaisySalazar @Pickles440 @BryAnnaAhrens @CloverShadows @JordanShuler @ChrystalA @Diajuni @minsangu @TatyTheTot @GraceWatson @NickySerban @Sinique @AnaMata7397 @nightcoreanimen @KarlythePanda66 @KellyOConnor @trashlord @hyolouxx @Sarahwifi @JayDay @nettaj1013 @Miyukichan @XergaB20 @pharmgirlerin @JasmineWilliams @toughcookie @warjeensuleiman @DasiaB @talimarks @ckienitz @KeyBoss @ChristiMarie @YokoUdoran @hayesfordaze @KagamiTaiga @malibella @ocherrylimeadeo @DjKpop12 @reyestiny93 @ZeeRow
11 Daily Habits of Successful Women to Integrate into Your Life
What does success mean to you? Maybe it’s conquering your career, earning gobs of money to buy shoes and handbags, starting a family, or some combination of these things and more. For whatever it is you want to be successful in, developing key habits are a surefire way of getting there. No matter what you desire, set your sights on what you want and aim for success. These 11 habits will help you make it happen! 1. Be present wherever you are When you’re at work, give it your all. When you’re at home, do the same. Keep these areas separate so your focus is where it should be in the moment. There’s nothing worse than taking work home and missing out on those precious moments with loved ones. Likewise at work, keep to the tasks at hand and keep your personal life out of it. 2. Take care of your health Don’t let yourself run ragged. If you are striving for success, a large part of that stems from your physical and mental health. Make a point to eat right, exercise, and clear your mind. Sleep is also a key component in better health. Stop staying up so late and get the rest you need. You’ll be so much more successful when you simply sleep on it! 3. Always ask questions You’ll never go anywhere if you don’t keep learning. Every field is always evolving so be on the lookout for opportunities to learn and grow. The more inquisitive you are, the more you flourish in life overall. 4. Control your own financials Even if you are married, being financially independent is a sign of success. Coupled with a partner, it can make you both thrive. What if something were to happen to your partner though? Knowing how to take care of yourself and rise above even in challenging situations is a major success. 5. Practice self-care Sadly, self-care is often confused with selfishness. It’s not selfish to make sure you’re good before helping anyone else. This is an essential need. It’s selfish not to share a bowl of popcorn with your loved ones when you’re watching a movie together. It’s not selfish to make time to meditate, meet friends for coffee to catch up, or treat yourself to something helps you fill your own cup. If you’re depleted, you’re no good to anyone else so take that time to reinvigorate your spirit. 6. Create a positive mindset The laws of attraction mean that when you stay positive, more positivity comes your way. Get out of negative thinking as quickly as you can. Practicing gratitude is a great way to find the good even on bad days. 7. See it and be it If you want to be a success, you should visualize success. Believe in yourself and along with your goals, work to get there. When you envision a positive outcome it’s easier to ignore those pesky self-doubts and keep moving toward your dreams. 8. Let go of comparisons Does your best friend have the same skin type as you? If not, using her skincare and makeup routine wouldn’t suit you in the slightest. The same is true of comparing yourself to the other women at work and in your personal life. You’re only limiting yourself. Instead, cultivate the positivity. Build each other up and create your own tribe of strong, empowered women around you. 9. Be kind You know that feeling when someone randomly compliments you? It could be about your hair or shoes or how you totally won over the new client, but whatever it is, that feeling is a good one to pass around. Spread kindness because it’s contagious in the best way possible. 10. Keep organized Sometimes, it’s not the way we look that needs a makeover. We need to keep our homes and offices in order to stay sane. By the same token though, you must find a way to stay organized that works for you. Some women love writing down lists while others use technology. However you want to do it is fine, but if you envision success, getting organized is the way to get there! 11. Know how to have fun too There’s an old saying, “All work and no play makes John a dull boy.” But the same goes for women too! There are times when you need to be serious, but don’t forget how to laugh at yourself and life. Embrace being playful in the right moments and enjoy your life. You’re not here to work all day, every day. You have a purpose. Aim for it and even when you get there, embark on another goal. Whatever your idea of success is, go for it. To be a successful woman, you must carve the right habits into your daily life. Keep consistent with them and make them a part of your mantra. Since success always comes from within, we can’t stress enough how important it is to take care of yourself. Let it go when it comes to stress and find ways to stay healthy from the food on your plate to the exercise you do to the sleep you get every night as it is the path to making your dreams turn into reality!
How To Learn A New Language At Home
I've been trying to improve my French recently, and came across these awesome YouTubers called DamonandJo. They have self-taught themselves nearly 6 languages! I believe they speak French, Spanish, Portugese, Italian, German, and of course English! You can either watch the video above (which I suggest cause they have the BEST sense of humor) or check out their tips below: 1. Follow Famous YouTubers in the language you want to learn! There are tons of youtubers in other languages, and often if they are famous enough, there will be english subtitles. Listen to them to hear real people speaking the language rather than a text book! They're usually super entertaining too so it helps :) 2. Follow those YouTubers or famous people on twitter so you see that language each day! The easiest way to get used to a foreign language is to see it all the time and this really helps! 3. Change your phone/facebook/etc language to your desired language! Since you probably already know where everything is in your phone or facebook, you wont be confused and you'll learn a ton of new vocab! 4. Listen to audio books in the language you want!!! Audible has a ton of foreign language books. Try starting with a book you already know well (like Harry Potter for me - I'm trying to read that in Korean right now...) and listen throughout your day! 5. Sign up for foreign magazines or newsletters! Or even better download their app in another language! For example, my boyfriend gets push notification from Le Monde which is a french newspaper :) Even if you only read the headline, its practice. 6. Try cooking a meal using a recipe in a different language! You start to learn that a lot of words you actually already know (for example, sauté means the same thing in french and in korean bokkeum (like bokkeumbap) means fried! so literally "fried rice!" 7. Watch TV shows in the language Duh!!!! 8. Talk to yourself and dont be afraid! Practice speaking whenever you can, even to people who are strangers! be brave! What languages are you trying to learn?!
