Xiumin did stay at the hotel with Lu. He never informed anyone where he was. Lu want at all surprised when Xiumin suggested that they go get Nari. Lu agreed, he couldn't help but see how anxious Xiumin was. He was itching to go get her. He thought it was cute. He had never seen Xiumin so worried before. And he really wanted to meet this girl, his girl.
Xiumin ran up the stairs to her apartment.
Subconsciously, he wanted to catch Chen. He was going to sneak up on him and scream at him for not listening. He was going to punish him for disobeying.
He knocked on her door.
Xiumin never bothered to call Nari to let her know he was coming. When there was no answer, he pounded on the door harder. He pressed his ear to the door. He could hear someone talking, coming closer. His eyes narrowed. Could it be whispering? He tried hard to listen for tones. Was it just hers? He couldn't tell.
The door opened. It opened a little ways. He pushed it open the rest of the way. Nari had her back turned to him, her phone to her ear, talking and giggling away. He just stood there watching her until she hung up.
She was surprised to see it was him at the door when she turned around.
“Minseok! What are you doing here? I thought you going out of town?” She said coming to him. She wrapped her arms around him, giving him a light squeeze and a peck on the cheek.
Xiumin put his arms around her. “What are doing you opening the door and just walking away?” He asked trying to sound more concerned than suspicious.
Nari stepped back feeling a bit chilled by that question. The room suddenly felt cold.
When she didn't answer him right away, he managed a quick smile, “Huh? You shouldn't do that, unless you were expecting someone you know.”
She looked to the floor where her overnight bag was sitting, “I was expecting someone. Unnie Jae is coming over. I was going to go to her new place for the night. Help her unpack. What happen Minseok, I thought you were going to hang out with your friend for the weekend. Were your plans cancelled?” She reached down and picked her bag up and threw it on the couch.
Xiumin eyed the small bag, was she telling the truth? “Kind of. Something came up so we headed back. When is she supposed to be here?”
Nari looked at her watch, “Any time now. She called a little while ago saying she was going to be running late. I thought you were her.” Nari saw that look on Xiumin's face. He was suspicious, it was plain and clear. She phoned Jae, switching it to speaker.
Xiumin wondered what she was doing.
When Jae answered, “Hello? Nari-ssi, I'll be there in like, 10 minutes. Traffic is horrible.”
“Unnie! Would it be okay if I cancelled?” Nari asked sounding sad and apologetic at the same time.
Xiumin straightened up, “What are you doing?” He asked, he reached across and grabbed her by the arm.
“WHYYYYYYYYY?” Jae whinned. There was a long silence, then a long sigh, “I guess. I was so looking forward to hanging with you. It's been such a long time since we done anything together.”
Xiumin shook his head, whispering, “It's okay, go with her…”
“Maybe next time, huh?!” Jae said, “I'll call you later.”
“Yes, call me when you get home so that I know you made it okay.” Nari said.
Jae grumbled, “You sound like SeHun…. Bye”
Nari hung up, looking at Xiumin with a half smile. Xiumin narrowed his eyes at her, he couldn't believe she did that.
“Why did do you that? I didn't ask you to cancel your plans.”
Nari walked past him, “It's okay. There will be other opportunities.”
“No it's okay Minseok, I can stay behind.” She took her bag to her room and unpacked it. She knew that look. She had seen it before. She even got slapped because of it once, but she knew Minseok wasn't an abusive man, he wouldn't lay a hand on her but still, she didn't want him being suspicious. Her phone started to ring. She stared at the screen and denied the call. She turned the ringer off before going back to Minseok.
He sat on the edge of her couch. He felt a little bad. He looked up at her as she came up to him, standing between his knees, putting her arms over his shoulders. His hands automatically went to hold her waist.
“I didn't want you to cancel your trip with Jae. You should call her back.”
Nari shook her head, “No, it's okay, really it is.”
Minseok closed his eyes as she leaned over, giving him a soft kiss on the forehead.
“Let me take you somewhere…” He says looking up at her. He grabbed her coat for her and pulled her out, holding tightly to her hand. Nari followed willingly.
