Helping in directing the electricity from the supply source to the smaller areas of usage, the electric switchboards can help in optimizing the power distribution. Generally, a switchboard comprises of various panels which are assembled together on a panel sheet or frame with various switches and bus-bars and other protective devices which are mounted on both sides of the panel. Each switchboard can comprise of one or more panels, wherein each panel has set of few switches which redirect the electricity distribution.
The main function of a switchboard is the division of electric supply into smaller current parts which is then further distributed to other electric equipments and systems like transformers, control equipments and to individual system loads. Besides this, the switch board can also offer current protection and metering of current which it distributes further. However, the control and metering compartment in switchboards are separated from power distribution conductors so as to avoid any kind of confusion.
Unlike those traditional and conventional switchboards, the modern switchboard systems are metal enclosed with a “dead front” construction. This makes switchboards inaccessible when the panels are closed and covered. Apart from this, even the metal enclosure is connected to earth ground so as to provide better protection to the common personnel and electricians.
