Aria sat on her knees in front of Jun Myeon.
Jun Myeon sat on the throne looking down at her.
He thought, she looked too young to be a vampire, even at that, being as old as she says she is. She's almost as old as he is. Which he couldn't believe. He just wanted to talk with her. He sent everyone away so that they could talk comfortably with one another, as the creatures they are, not the humans they try to pretend to be.
She kept her eyes on the ground, it wasn't she didn't want to look at him, especially after killing her King. It was because of the feeling she had when she looked at him. Like the world was slowing down, as if time had stopped, she would get this twisting feeling in her gut. Like she was nervous.
“How long have you been here?” He asked. His voice was almost a whisper but she heard him like he was right next to her.
“I came here when the King was a boy. I had saved him from drowning. His father kept me here to watch over him. So about 20 years now.” She said just as quietly as he had.
“Did they know what you are? To have stayed that long and not age before their eyes, must've been a mystery to them.”
Aria nodded, “His father asked me once, I told him. Just him and his son knew. No one else questioned it, by his order.”
“How long do you plan to stay now that he's gone?”
“Not long. There is very little here to keep me here now…” she said
“What if I want you to stay?” He said all of sudden.
“What?” She looked at him and then quickly looked back at the floor.
Jun Myeon looked away now, he smiled thinking how he must've sounded, “I want you to stay here… With me. It's been a long time since I've had the company of another of our kind, other than my brothers.”
He got up from the throne and went to her. He kneeled down in front of her, lowering his head to try to meet her gaze. She stared at his chin, her eyes slowly moving up to his lips, then his nose, then she looked into his eyes.
That funny feeling rushed through her, the air around them seemed to stop. She couldn't hear anything else but the air he was breathing. The sound of his lips parting slightly. She became lost in the depth of his black eyes.
There was a knock.
Jun Myeon jumped up and stepped back.
Aria took a deep breath, calming herself.
Kyung came walking in, each step announcing his presence. He kneeled down on one knee and bowed his head.
“You summoned me?” He said in a deep silky voice.
“Yes. Kyung, this is Aria. She's going to be staying with us. Aria, this is Kyung, he's going to look after you.” Jun Myeon said as he went back to his throne.
“Staying… as what, a servant?” Kyung asked.
Jun Myeon thought for a second, “No. As a guest. She can come and go as she pleases. I think, with her around, the other servants will feel more at ease. She'll be like a liaison between us and them. If that's okay with you, Aria?”
She looked at him wide eyed.
Kyung looked over at her, he grinned at what he just glimpsed from her. The thoughts, the feelings she has for him. She was melting before his eyes. It amused him.
Aria quickly looked away, “Yes. That's fine.”
“Good. That way, you'll have something to stay for. Kyung, take her back to her chambers.” He said and dismissed them.
They both bowed and left.
Aria followed Kyung as he lead the way to her chambers across the court yard.
Kyung heard in the back of his mind, something that Jun Myeon had said without her hearing it.
“Make sure she doesn't run away.”
