Glaxo Smith Kline has announced that it will stop paying doctors to effectively sell their drugs for them. This is an interesting development, because I bet a lot of people weren't aware that its very rare for prescription drugs to be promoted at all outside of the US. All the commercials telling you to check out the latest medicine for something you haven't even been diagnosed for are really unsettling...

@curtis i'm not an expert by any means, but probably rights concerning free speech as well as the supreme court's interpretation of corporations (like citizens united) play a part. lobbyists here can be extremely powerful, and pharmaceutical corporations definitely have some serious connections
