I'm feeling like this is going to be a neverending story. I am gonna try to end it fairly soon. . . Let's hope. Okay enough Bs'n around.
Ahnjong has to work two jobs to take care of her siblings. Soon, her life begins to fall into place, and she meets someone who pushes her to fulfill her dreams.
Chapter 9: Awakening
The fragrance of pancakes and bacon wrapped around Ahn's nose. She stretched wiping the sleep from her eyes. Climbing out of bed, she walked to the drawers in the corner of her room, stepping onto lush carpet. It felt like a dream to her, to be in her own room. Grabbing clothes to change into, she noticed the view of the backyard from her room. It was absolutely amazing to see flowers and trees lining the yard. This place was more beautiful than she could have imagined.
Making her way downstairs, she noticed the kids weren't in their rooms. Looking at her phone, she noticed she slept in past her alarm. Oh shit, they're going to be late. This increased Ahnjong's speed of ascending the stairs. She followed the smell of food to the kitchen where Luna was.
"Morning sunshine, I took the kids to school already. I didn't have the heart to wake you, since you were up late."
"They're at school? Thank you Luna. I'm sorry I slept in. It's just that it's been forever I slept in an actual bed instead of a couch."
"No problem, they woke up well, gave me no problems. I fed them, got them ready and left."
Luna was stepping up as honorary mom already. This warmed Ahnjong's heart to the core.
"You're not late for work are you?"
"No, I took the day off. I wanted to help the kids settle in today. My assistant is going to come by during her lunch break to touch base. Oh, since you girls are starting off, I wanted to give you something."
Luna walked around the counter as Ahnjong was sitting at the bar eating.
"What is this Luna?"
"It's Cosmetics from the company. I had the girls make up bags for you and your friends. I know that there are makeup artists for you guys, but I thought you five should have good makeup outside of the company."
Ahnjong looked inside her bag that Luna had prepared for her. There were different products that she wasn't familiar with. She was honored Luna provided this. The girls would be appreciative as well.
"I better get going, the girls are waiting for me," Ahnjong cleaned her plate as she grabbed the bags for the girls.
"Do you need a ride? I can even let you borrow my car if you want?"
"I can't take your car Luna, but thank you."
"Okay, then let me drive you to the studio; it wouldn't be a bother," Luna grabbed her keys as she ushered Ahnjong out the door.
She agreed as she met Luna downstairs. Arriving at the studio, Ahn gave Luna a hug. She proceeded into the studio going to the room her friends were at. Opening the door, she was greeted warmly as she handed out the bags to the others.
"This is from Luna. She wants you to have these. Okay so let's get started."
The five of them started practicing their songs. They still had a lot to cover, including their choreography. They were learning at a great speed, but there was always room for improvement. Mi-Ok and Minji took over their lines as Ahnjong directed the dancing. After so many hours of running through it, they were ready to put it all together at once. Taking their designated spots, the music started from the top. During the next four minutes the dancing, rapping, and vocals were spot on. Ahnjong recorded it, so they could go back and look, to make sure the number was correct. Feeling wonderful, the girls sat down to catch their breath.
The girls got curious about the bags Luna made, wanting to check it out. Ahnjong explained everything as they pulled out the different cosmetics. A knock happened as Ahnjong turned around. Shownu waved to her, as she got up.
"Hey, how are you and the guys? I'm sorry y’all were out late."
"Don't worry about us. I actually wanted to check in on you. How was your first night?"
"It was good. Luna took the kids to school this morning to let me sleep in a little later. I really like her Shownu, she's amazing to us already."
Shownu just stood there encapsulated by Ahnjong. He was very happy things went well for her the first night at her dad's. He had hoped it would. As the evening started approaching, everyone was getting ready to leave. Ahnjong forgot to call and tell Luna she needed a ride. She wanted to clear her mind, so she just left after the girls. It felt nice to her for a walk. She got halfway down the block as Shownu flagged her down.
"Do you want a ride Ahnjong? We can take you home."
"I'm okay, but thank you Shownu. This will help ease my mind. There's so much going through it, I need a way to release."
Before she realized she was a little colder than usual, Shownu already left. Ahnjong paused as she felt different. Her mind felt foggy. As soon as he crossed her mind, she felt the heat cross her cheeks. Her heart fluttered, which left her clinching at her blouse. She never felt this before. It was hard for her to describe it, but whatever this feeling was, was truly positive. She imagined his smile. It was a gorgeous one. Shownu had the kind of smile that could melt anyone's heart; invoke a smile even. Being around him was overwhelming, but in a good way. Even on her worse days, Shownu was the light in her life, an everlasting light that she thought would never burn out. This wasn't a normal thought. Whenever she thought of him, she could literally feel butterflies inside of her tummy.
What is happening to me? Why am I feeling like this? I need to talk to Luna; she'll know why I'm suddenly getting a fever.
Ahnjong arrived at the house as she saw Luna's car in the driveway. Inputting the numbers at the gate, she hurried inside. Even though this feeling was positive, she still had no idea what she was experiencing. Inside, Luna was helping the kids with their homework, such a beautiful sight.
"Luna, can I talk to you," Ahn was glistening as she stood in the doorway. Hopefully, Luna could help ease her into knowing what was going on.
"What's wrong Ahn, are you okay?" Luna looked Ahn over trying to find out why she was distressed.
"I don't know what's going on. I'm freaking out, I don't even know how to explain it."
"Start from the beginning," Luna sat her down at the bar while the kids were at the table.
"It's weird, it's about Shownu. Anytime I think about him lately, I get this funny feeling. Well, not funny, but it's more positive than anything. He was being his normal self, trying to offer me a ride. At first I responded coldly to him. When he left, I was hit with emotions. Emotions I never felt before."
"Ahnjong, what kinds of feelings?"
"You know how all of this has been exhausting to me? Well, he makes everything feel obsolete. Like nothing will go wrong as long as I'm around him. There was a weird feeling in my heart, really weird."
"Do you get nervous around him perhaps?"
"All the time, but today it hit harder. My hands got all clammy, and my face got hot. I may be coming down with a fever."
"I'd say so, but you have a different fever forming. I think you like him more than a friend. At least, that's what I gather from your description of him."
"Nonsense, we don't really know each other. How can that be?"
"Ahn," Luna scooted closer to Ahnjong as she placed her hand across her heart, "there isn't a time frame for love. Your heart is racing just by talking about him. Love happens when it happens. There's not really an explanation for how short or how long until it occurs. When it hits suddenly, you can be thrown off. Don't be afraid to embrace it, though."
"There's no way he could like me like that."
"He deserves the world. Someone who has their shit together. Not someone who is a nervous wreck, like me. That bad juju keeps following."
"Only he has the ability to determine what he wants or needs Ahn. Don't deprive yourself of love, due to being scared. I promise love is a beautiful thing that everyone deserves."
Ahn sat there in deep thought. Maybe Luna was correct. Maybe she did have strong feelings for him. She didn't know how to approach him or even why this feeling was present. All she knew was that Shownu was her saving grace so far. Any time something went wrong, he was there with her every step of the way. He offered emotional support and someone who she could honestly count on. They did spend a lot of time together, so that probably didn't help this situation. She still couldn't help the desire to shake that feeling off.
She went up to her room as she sat on the window chair, overlooking the backyard. This was the first time she really paid attention to it. They had a beautiful garden and gazebo right in the middle. The house was truly enchanting. Every inch of it was beautifully decorated. There was a lot of love and time put into the aesthetics.
"Ahn," her dad knocked on her door, "are you okay?"
"I'm fine Daddy. Hey, I actually wanted to talk to you about something."
"Okay," he sat down in front of her.
"I think it would be great and beneficial to the kids if Luna adopted them. I know you'll have to get a divorce first, but I feel it would be beneficial. So nothing can sabotage this."
"You really think so?"
"Dad, I've seen the way she's treated them. Even when I'm not in the room. I can tell she has a lot of heart, I think she's wonderful. Luna has done more for us than our biological mom ever did. She never would have helped me move in the middle of the night if she truly didn't care about us."
"I really am happy you three are with me Ahn. I'm not going to let anything happen to you. I promise."
Ahn hugged her dad. She wanted to press more into what she felt, but she didn't know if a guys point of view would be helpful. Instead, she decided against acknowledging those feelings. She never noticed the missed call from Shownu. During the day her phone was kept on silent, to not disturb the practices. When she finally checked it, she sent him a message explaining that she was talking to her dad and Luna, and just didn't have her phone that close to her. She walked downstairs to her family. Ahnjong wanted to go back to the studio for a bit. This would be a good time for her to dance her stress away.
"I'm going to go to the studio for a bit. If I don't release this, I won't be able to sleep tonight. I'll grab food on the way home."
Luna tossed her keys and smiled. Her dad and Luna motioned for Ahnjong to follow them to the garage; remembering how Ahn told them it would be a long walk to the studio.
"At least take a car, so you're not walking forever."
Luna opened the door to a few of their cars.
"I can't," even the cars were taken care of so gently.
"The Elantra would be a good car for you and the girls. It's great on gas and roomy. Of course, you can choose any of these."
Ahnjong hesitated a bit before she opened the door to the car. It was pretty and still had the new car smell inside. She sat down noticing the interior was prettier than she thought.
"Are you sure?"
"Go, it's yours to drive. Look in the glove compartment," her dad stood there with his hands in his pockets.
Ahnjong opened it slowly revealing a title. He put her name on it. They bought her a car to help out. She never had a car of her own, or any for that matter. She always relied on walking or buses, but mostly her own two feet.
"I don't know what to say Thank you both!" She ran around giving them hugs.
"You will be responsible for the upkeep and gas, but if there are any problems with it, then let us know. You can come to us for help."
She drove out of the garage elated. This wasn't what she expected, but it was nice. Ahnjong turned into the empty parking lot as she grabbed her bag. She entered the company as she walked towards her group's room. Hooking her speaker up to her phone, she put her playlist on shuffle. Ahnjong walked to the middle of the room as she took a look in the mirror. Something seemed like it was missing, but she had no clue as to what was.
Finding the perfect beat, she began. Her legs weren't working for her. Steps that she normally found as easy, turned into a challenge. This head fog was getting the best of her. She sat on the floor wrapping her arms around her knees, placing her head on top. Shownu entered the room, without Ahnjong noticing. Placing his hands on hers, he pulled her off the ground. This immediately brought her back into reality. She looked up as she smiled seeing who it was.
He stood next to her as she noticed they looked different; especially in the mirror. He was what was missing earlier.
