How to reduce your food waste in 7 days (and save money!)

Day 1
Store your ingredients in the proper place to extend the shelf life and preserve quality. Keep root vegetables and onions in a cool, dark place. Leafy green vegetables, apples and grapes in the fridge between 1c-4c. Bread will become dry if stored in the fridge, however, if you plan on using it just for toast, it will certainly extend its life. Opened jars are best kept in the fridge.

Day 2
Before you start cooking, consider the amount of ingredients you really need to use. An average portion size for uncooked rice is between 80-90g per person, and 80-100g dried pasta per person. Cooking a larger amount than needed of these basic ingredients can be costly and wasteful. If you intentionally cook more than needed so you can save some for another time, make sure you plan when you are going to use it- and stick to it!

Day 3
Treat "best before" dates on food labelling as guidelines and not rules. Imagine that your food doesn’t have packaging or a use-by date. Use your senses to determine if it is edible and of course, use your common sense. If a vegetable appears a little limp, it can be chopped up and used in a cooked dish, but if there is visible mould or an odour, it shouldn’t be eaten for the purpose of food safety.

Day 4
Have a selection of food storage containers and labels on hand for storing leftovers. This will maximise the space in your fridge / freezer and allow you to recognise what is in each container. Keep leftovers of sauces in glass jars in the fridge, again to make it easy to recognise and locate, and keep them fresher for longer.

Day 5
Rotate the items around in your fridge, freezer and cupboards to ensure that everything gets used before it passes its best quality and taste. This also reminds you of what you have available before you go shopping, so you can create meals around these products.

Day 6
Make an informal list of the food you throw away, so you can recognise any patterns. Throwing away half a loaf of bread? Think about how better to store it and use it up. Throwing away that leftover pasta sauce you made last week? Remember to add leftovers to your meal plan. Throwing away an unopened bag of spinach? Base your shopping list around what you’re actually going to cook that week.

Day 7
Get creative with your leftover ingredients and cooked foods. Reducing waste and saving money on food bills doesn’t have to be a struggle, there is a world of new recipes and meals available when you think outside of the box - just have fun with it.

Green Tea Smoothies – Delicious, Healthy, and Help You Lose Weight
Celebrate summer with these yummy green tea smoothies! They're packed with seasonal fruit and all the nutrients your body needs, helping you eat smart and achieve your health goals. Researchers at Purdue University found that you stay fuller longer when you drink thick beverages like smoothies; replacing meals with smoothies ups your chance of losing weight and keeping it off for more than a year. Even if weight loss isn't one of your goals, drinking smoothies can help you sneak in more raw fruits and veggies into your diet. My dad, who's a total health nut, will throw everything from kale to tomatoes to raw beets into his VitaMix – but shockingly, you'd never know it! Using a little peanut butter, cinnamon, sweetened yogurt, or ripe strawberries can really mask the taste of less traditional ingredients. Why Green Tea? Green tea contains catechin polyphenols, which Swiss researchers have found significantly increase your body's metabolism of fat – meaning you burn more, faster. In addition, green tea contains less caffeine than coffee, which, coupled with the nutrients provided by other ingredients, will give you long lasting, non-jittery energy, unlike the buzz-crash-repeat vicious cycle of coffee. Give one (or all!) of these green tea smoothies a try – you won't be disappointed! Green Tea Goddess Smoothie 3 cups frozen green grapes 2 cups baby spinach, packed 1 1/2 cups strong brewed green tea, cooled 1 medium ripe avocado 2 teaspoons honey (or agave syrup) Avocados are packed with oleic acid, a healthy fat that's great for your heart. Plus, they've got more potassium than bananas, making them excellent supporters of healthy blood pressure levels. Source: Eating Well Blueberry Green Tea Smoothie 3/4 cups green tea 2 cups frozen blueberries 12 oz. nonfat vanilla yogurt 20 whole almonds, unsalted and dry-roasted 2 tbsp. ground flax seeds Almonds are high in magnesium, iron, calcium, and protein, as well as healthy fats that may help you lose weight, and certainly support a healthy heart and low cholesterol! Source: Food Antioxidant-Rich Berry Matcha Smoothie 1/4 cup frozen blueberries, raspberries, or blackberries (or a mix of all three!) 1/2 cup yogurt 1/2 cup ice 1 tsp. matcha powder Add some mango, kiwi, ginger, or a few fresh mint leaves to make this even yummier! Source: MatchaSource Mango Green Tea Smoothie 1/2 cup green tea 1/2 cup fat-free Greek yogurt 1 cup mango chunks, fresh or frozen 3-5 ice cubes Mango is one of my favorite fruits, and protein-packed Greek yogurt will keep you full and focused for hours! Source: Joy Bauer Cinnamon Honey Green Tea Smoothie 1/2 cup green tea, chilled 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk 1 tsp. cinnamon 1 tbsp. honey 1/2 banana Like green tea, cinnamon has great metabolism-boosting properties. At only 139 calories, this low-cal concoction is better as a snack than a meal replacement. Source: Popsugar A Few Tips: Use frozen fruit. It's cheaper, easier to store, won't go bad, AND might even have more antioxidants than the fresh fruit you find in the supermarket, since it's picked and frozen at peak ripeness. To brew strong green tea, use two tea bags – but don't oversteep. Oversteeping can give your tea a bitter flavor that other ingredients might not succeed in masking.
What Has BTS Taught You
Hello fam! I can across this cool edit. These are not my own, but I wanted to share. @VeronicaArtino and I were having a conversation about " why we look up to BTS or what we have learned from them." These edits definitely sum up what I have learned from BTS. Honestly my key things are you are never too young to be wise. Love myself and loving myself is not selfish. Love those who support you and even your haters. You reap what you sow. If you plant seeds of success and water them with hard work and dedication you will get what you deserve. Focus on being the best version of myself, screw comparing myself to others. COMMENT BELOW WHAT YOU HAVE LEARNED FROM BTS! Self-care: Skincare Routine
Hello fam! Taking care of your outside is a part of self care. Skin care is not only good practice or hygiene, but can help reduce stress with the time and quality of products that you use. I will share my updated skin care routine. FYI my skin type is dry and sensitive. 1. Music I always have to play some music and groove when I take care of my skin. As ya know I'm either rocking out to BTS or some rock band! 2. Products for Day Time: Real Cica Micellar Cleansing Foam and Drunk Elephant Protini Moisturizer This cleanser is super gentle and so silky. It does have a super light scent. This does not dry out my skin.I purchased my on Amazon. It's under 20 bucks and a little goes a long way. I use this in the morning. This is expensive!!! I will say about $65 bucks USA coins. However, a little goes a long way and the formula is like hydrating your skin with silk. This is light weight but super hydrating. Great to apply before make up as well. 3. Night Time Products: Biore Witch Hazel Pore Clarifying Cooling Cleanser, Real Cica Essense Pads, and Dr. Jart Ceramidin This cooling gel cleanser gives me life and soothes my skin at night time. It feels so relaxing. Make sure not to leave in skin for too long if you have sensitive skin. These pads claim to be a light skin peel. I will say that it does soften my skin, reduces irritation and or inflammation, and leaves skin supple with a glow. You can purchase these on Amazon too. This moisturizer has so many natural ingredients and does have a lemon scent. This is thicker but super hydrating. This does help reduce irritation as well. This did cost about $35 bucks. 4. Makeup face: Take the day off Cleansing Milk For my make up I double cleanse. I use this Cleansing Milk followed by either or wash and my night time moisturizer. This was $25 at Ulta. Sorry folks I know I should use spf but I don't. I used to use this sun blocker but it ended up breaking me out after 6 months of using it.
Self Care Tips From BTS Plus Self Care and BTS Giveaway
Hello fam! So much has happened! We are growing in numbers with members. Plus we have gained a new editor! I'm super excited! We all know that BTS are huge supporters of self care and self love! Like...they did do an entire album and concept called Love yourself and our President Namjoon brought it up at his huge speech. So let's dive into some self care tips from BTS. Tip 1: TRUE LOVE FIRST BEGINS WITH LOVING MYSELF This is so true. No one can love anyone genuinely before loving themselves. This can be a challenge due to how much media tells us unconsciously to not be satisfied with ourselves. Love your flaws and accept who you are. Nothing is wrong with self improvement but remember no one is perfect. Tip 2: "MAYBE I MADE A MISTAKE YESTERDAY, BUT YESTERDAY’S ME IS STILL ME. TODAY, I AM WHO I AM WITH ALL OF MY FAULTS AND MY MISTAKES. TOMORROW, I MIGHT BE A TINY BIT WISER, AND THAT WILL BE ME TOO.” Speaking of self-improvement this quote is spot on. Don't be afraid to be the best version of yourself and don't beat yourself up for making mistakes. What was done yesterday is done, but we can make change for tomorrow based upon what we learned from yesterday's mistakes. IT IS NEVER TOO LATE OR ANYTHING WRONG WITH STARTING OVER! Tip 3: "I HAVE COME TO LOVE MYSELF FOR WHO I AM, FOR WHO I WAS, AND FOR WHO I HOPE TO BECOME.” It also helps to have self reflection as you grow by looking at your past self to see how much you have grown. Just because you are happy with your present self doesn't mean you don't want to continue to grow and or have any future goals. Love your past, present, and future self all in one. I know I can't wait to become my future self! However, I'm thankful for my past self and the lessons she has and will teach my present self. Giveaway Rules and Set up!
