Disability Support Workers and COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement
Disability support workers are entities that look after the health and wellbeing of individuals with disabilities or illnesses. This support provided by disability support workers enables the individuals to live a quality life. Individuals with disabilities get to live independently and reach their goals because of this support. Disability support workers are at greater risk of getting infected with COVID-19. The reason is that they work with individuals with disabilities. This work is done in various settings and the individual with disabilities is supported by various other workers. Coming in contact with various entities in varied settings puts them at a greater risk to get infected. Vaccination Requirements: Disability Support Workers have certain requirements for getting vaccinated. From 21 November 2021 and onward, the Disability Support Workers are required to be vaccinated fully against COVID-19. This vaccination requirement applies to the entities that are employed to or engaged with NDIS participants. The required applies to workers who perform the duties of providing high-intensity support to individuals with disability daily. Thereby if you are a high-intensity disability support worker, you’re required to get vaccinated under governmental directions. Disability Support Workers that requires to be vaccinated: Disability Support worker that are high-intensity support providers need to get vaccinated. If your job role falls under the following aspects, vaccination requirement applies to you: *The support workers provide assistance with daily tasks in groups or in shared living arrangements. This can involve the workers that support the NDIS participants in group homes or in the supported independent living. * The other ones are the entities engaged with specialist-supported employments. These are the worker who assists participants that have high support needs for maintaining their daily work. *Community Nursing Care workers are also included. These care workers provide nursing care to the individuals in community settings. They respond to the disability-related health needs of NDIS participants. As nursing care is provided in community settings, this care is not the responsibility of health systems. * Next are the workers that assist individuals with disabilities in group and center-based activities. These workers assist the NDIS participants to access social, recreational, or community activities. These activities are provided in group settings, either in the community or in the centers. * The workers that assist individuals with disabilities in their personal tasks of everyday life are also required to be vaccinated. This support holds great importance for individuals with disabilities because it allows them to live as independently as possible. These support workers provide the individuals with disabilities with ADL in different settings, including participants’ homes. * The therapeutic support workers are also required to be vaccinated. These workers assist the participants to enhance their independence and enable participation in daily life using different practical practices. These practices can include movement and mobility, interpersonal interaction, community living, etc. These workers are entities like occupational therapists, dieticians, psychologists, speech therapists, etc. The support workers mentioned above are the ones that provide high-intensity support with NDIS registered groups. However, the requirement of getting vaccinated applies to all types of support provided. This means that not only the support provided under NDIS registration groups especially. This requirement and direction to get vaccinated apply to both Registered and Unregistered NDIS providers. You are required to get vaccinated if your duty involves providing high-intensity support to NDIS participants. It does not matter that you are a full-time worker or working with an employer. You are required to get vaccinated. Furthermore, you can contact your employer in case you are unclear regarding your employment. The employer can help you to know if your employment falls under the high-intensity support category. And so you will know if you are required to get vaccinated or not. However, if the provision of high-intensity support is incidental to your main employment, you can skip vaccination. You are not required to be vaccinated under this governmental direction.
