The Harry Potter World Food Seems As Magical As It Looks
You'll never believe what's on the menu. It may not be full of magic potions and jumping chocolate frogs but its pretty darn close. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Universal Studios L.A. has rolled out its menu for the Hogsmeade village including the Three Broomsticks Pub. Ultimately, the food is your typical American grub with British charm. After all, Americans don't need an exact British menu because we already have an American wizarding school for our magical students or what the kids in the states call now-a-days "no maj". To win over any tourist, one must be impressed by food presentation, atmosphere, and service. J.K. Rowling will not let any of these circumstances go to waste as she continues to boast her billion dollar brand. Below is the list of things the menu entails and it looks pretty promising. Obviously there will be alcohol for adults and butter-beer for the kids. In my opinion that sounds like a pretty fun time and I'm sure the food has been tested by many gourmet chefs to make for perfect results. You'll be able to chow down starting April 7th. Breakfast I dare you to figure out which is the American inspired dishes and which are the British inspired dishes. "Traditional" is a key word in their breakfast presentation. You've got plenty of syrup and bacon. However there's also potatoes, eggs, sausage, croissants, and some hardy meats. Obviously you've seen these foods a million times before but its more for the atmosphere of waking up and enjoying the most important meal of the day in Harry Potter's world. Kid's Menu Automatically, the only thing that I want are the chicken fingers in this picture. Obviously the grapes look pretty appetizing and the potatoes wedges are a nice touch. And if you're going for a more Brit lunch, you can get some fish and chips. I'm sure the macaroni and cheese is delicious because if kids are eating this, it better be tolerable because they are not one to hold back their opinion. Lunch Your generic soup and salad lunch combo. Though they are presented very Panera like, they're probably named something goofy. A fish and chips dinner is always a viable fried choice if you're into that type of thing but a chicken pot pie is definitely your better option. I have to admit that the food styling of the chicken salad is absolutely stunning and definitely something that I would gawk at if served to me. Dinner Very hardy, very meaty, and very traditional. There's a lot of incorporation of vegetables and sauces to make it more authentic. The portions do seem rather large and definitely fresh. I'm not sure if I'm too impressed with the dinner since it seems almost too stereotypical American but I guess it does fit the pub atmosphere. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what people think. Dessert Yes, just go for it. Enjoy!
Chocolate Chip Cookie Shot Glasses
In honor of National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day, here is a deliciously fun way to get your chocolate chip cookie fix during happy hour: Chocolate Chip Cookie Shot Glasses! And in case you think I am making this holiday up, you can find it , and a ton of other national holidays that will blow your mind at National Day Calendar online. This 4 1/2 star recipe comes from All Recipes user, Nicole Faust Hunt, called "Absolutely The Best Chocolate Chip Cookies." To make the shot glasses, you will need a 'popover' pan. Otherwise, you can make these using small cupcake pans. However, the shape of the glass will not look like a shot glass. Ingredients: 1 cup butter flavored shortening (not butter) 3/4 cup white sugar 3/4 cup brown sugar 2 eggs 2 teaspoons Mexican vanilla extrac t2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon salt 2 cups milk chocolate chips Chocolate candy melts (for later) Directions: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease the pan. In a large bowl, cream together the butter flavored shortening, brown sugar and white sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well with each addition, then stir in the vanilla .Combine the flour, baking soda and salt; gradually stir into the creamed mixture. Finally, fold in the chocolate chips. Press the cookie dough into the popover pan bottom and sides. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, until light brown. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely. Separately, melt the chocolate candy melts in a microwave or a double boiler. Once the cookie shot glasses have cooled, spoon in the candy melts, covering the bottom and inside cookie walls. This will harden relatively quick, or you can put it in the fridge. This coating will prevent liquids from being absorbed into the cookie. Korean Girls Try Mexican Soda For The First Time!
Just when that whole YouTube trend of sampling foods from different cultures was losing its sparkle to me, Digitalsoju TV had to go ahead and introduce Korean girls to Jarritos. I've been wanting to write a card about Jarritos for a while now, as it's one of those Mexican sodas that are an essential part of the culture of Mexican cuisine. Sure, you can talk about Baja California seafood or the delicious carnes of central Mexico's ranching region, but what would that deliciousness be without a cold, fizzy Jarritos on the side? If you don't know Jarritos, it's an incredibly popular Mexican soda brand that's made with cane sugar and comes in a variety of flavors, including strawberry, guava, pineapple, and tamarind. In this video, the girls end up sampling the pineapple, grapefruit, mango, and guava flavors, but how does Jarritos translate in the Land of the Morning Calm? Let's look! Like any good soda, the first thing they notice is it's full of sugar. And then they all realize they're obsessed with the guava one. My favorite was the homegirl going too hard on the grapefruit. Koreatown LA: Desserts, Desserts, & More Desserts!
One of my East Coast friends is flying to LA this summer and staying in Koreatown. Since I'm a San Diegan that sometimes heads up to LA on weekends, she asked me what to eat and where to go when visiting K-Town. Being that we've got a whole bunch of K-Entertainment fans on here, I figured it might be useful to list places for ALL of you - so if and when you're in California, you know where to visit to try some delicious food. I figured I'd start off with a card dedicated to some of my all-time favorite Koreatown desserts! Bingsu @ Cafe Heyri 755 S Hobart Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90005 There's plenty of places to get Korean-style shaved ice in Koreatown, but none of them have the variety of Cafe Heyri. There's traditional red bean (pat) bingsu, melon, green tea, coffee, chocolate, and - my personal favorite - seasonal fruit (pictured above)! Macaron Ice Cream @ HAUS by Coffee Hunter 3826 W 6th St. Los Angeles, CA 90020 A growing trend in dessert cafes is the ice cream macaron - an ice cream sandwich made by layering ice cream between two very big macaron shells. Not only is HAUS' version my absolute favorite, but if you're a K-Pop fan, this cafe's got massive flat-screen TVs that play all your favorite music videos while you eat! Bungeoppang @ Okrumong 3801 W 6th St. Los Angeles, CA 90020 Not only is Okrumong famous for its incredible take on traditional patbingsu, but it's also one of the few places in Koreatown where you can get a basket fresh bungeoppang - fish-shaped waffle-like breads filled with red bean - to share with friends! Animal Donuts @ Fantastic Donuts 1101 S Vermont Ave. Los Angeles, CA 90006 You can read a little bit more about these adorable donuts here, but Fantastic Donuts has become pretty Instagram popular for their cute animal and character donut designs. (However, I'd definitely also recommend their cereal-topped ones. The Cinnamon Toast Crunch one almost tastes like a churro!) Honeycomb Ice Cream @ Honeymee 3377 Wilshire Blvd. Suite 116, Los Angeles, CA 90010 I was telling my fellow So.Cal foodie @hmfong that I've never been able to check out Honeymee personally. Why? Because every time I'm in the neighborhood, there's a huge line of customers! How's that for a testament about how locals feel about this simply vanilla soft-serve topped with liquid honey and a generous REAL honeycomb on top? Mochi Ice Cream @ Mikawaya 118 Japanese Village Plaza Mall, Los Angeles, CA 90012 So I'm cheating and throwing in a Little Tokyo wild card - Mikawaya! Chances are, if you've ever had store bought mochi ice cream, it was made by the Mikawaya company. But LA is the only place where you can visit its shop and order some pretty unique mochi ice cream flavors, including plum wine, black sesame, and mint chocolate chip! Chocolate Cupcakes with...CHURROS!
Ingredients for 12 cupcakes or 48 mini cupcakes For the cake 115 g unsalted butter at room temperature 220 g of white sugar 3 eggs M 180 g flour 40 g unsweetened cocoa powder 1 teaspoon yeast ½ Royal 120 ml semi-skimmed milk 1 teaspoon vanilla extract For Mini Churros 1 cup water 1 cup flour Oil Sugar Small pastry bag with star nozzle. For the cream 115 g unsalted butter 425 g powdered sugar (icing sugar better) 85 g unsweetened cocoa powder 105 ml semi-skimmed milk Preheat oven to 180 degrees (160 degrees if fan). Prepare cupcake pan with 12 capsules of paper. Sift the flour with the baking powder and cocoa into a bowl and reserve. Beat butter with sugar until blended and mixture is clear. Add eggs, one at a time, beating until just incorporated. Add half the flour and beat on low speed until incorporated. Then add milk, mixed with vanilla extract and beat back. Add the other half of the flour and beat at low speed until the mixture is homogeneous. Split the mixture in capsules, not fill more than 2/3. Bake 22-25 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean. Let cool cupcakes in pan 5 minutes and then move on to a wire rack until completely cool. While they cool, make our mini fritters: In a saucepan, heat the water with a drop of oil and a pinch of salt. When boiling, add the flour all at once and stir quickly. This creates a kind of "glue". Removed the fire bucket and take the sticky dough with wooden spoon and get into the pastry bag. Then we heat the oil in another pan. When very hot, we begin to put our fritters (watch out for burning!). Need at least a mini churro by cupcake. ( With what we do more mass on churros and we eat to live ... they are two days! ) Begin to brown As the mini churros, we take them out and leave them on paper towels to lose the excess oil. Finally, we went through sugar. To make the buttercream we sift the icing sugar with cocoa and place in a bowl with butter and milk. Covering the bowl, beat on low speed one minute. Then we went up the speed and beat at least another 5 minutes at high speed. The buttercream will become creamy, rich chocolate.
