For decades consumers have been in search for simple products to fix complicated, hard-to-solve problems. Diet pills and weight loss are a perfect example of this phenomenon. Consumers want to lose weight, but they don’t want to diet, exercise, or control their portions. This opens up the opportunity for supplement manufacturers to step in and present a seemingly perfect solution – dieting pills. They claim that all you have to do is take a few pills a day, and you’ll soon be thin and lean. Unfortunately, these products are practically always dangerous and ineffective in the long-term. To make matters worse, these products are often held to a much lower regulatory standard than pharmaceuticals and over-the-counter drugs, which means they can contain questionable ingredients. Before you decide to cheat your way to flat stomach with diet pills, consider these five dangerous ingredients. 1. Ephedra This hazardous stimulant is banned by the FDA, but it still finds its way into products around the world. The fact that this chemical is used a precursor to methamphetamine should be reason enough to stay away. 2. Bitter Orange This herbal supplement was marketed as an ephedra replacement after ephedra-containing supplements were pulled from the shelves in 2004. It has many of the same risks and side effects of ephedra, including irregular heart beat, seizures, and stroke. 3. Germander This herb is often promoted is an all-natural weight loss aid, but no legitimate evidence has been found to support these claims. Severe side effects like liver abnormalities and liver failure have been reported. 4. Guar Gum A common food additive, this supplement is sometimes added to weight loss formulas in excessively large amounts, leading to risk of intestinal blockages and obstructions, which can be lethal. 5. Yohimbe Frequently included in formulas for weight loss and male enhancement, this herb has been known to cause abrupt changes in blood pressure, irregular heartbeat, and even heart attacks. Healthy diet and exercise are truly the only safe and effective paths to your weight loss goals. Don’t be fooled by the flashy advertising and outlandish claims of diet pill companies; their products are both questionable in their usefulness and risky in their safety.

It's embarrassing to say but I've had my share of diet pills. It definitely is not the answer for dieting. Eating well and exercising is the key to living a healthier lifestyle and losing weight.
