Japan concerned over fate of its companies in India

The Japanese government has expressed concern about the fate of its Indian companies, especially in the automotive sector , due to disruptions caused by the lock-down. It has asked New Delhi to make labor laws "less stringent" on specific products , improve logistics and lower customs duties.

Representatives from Japan's Ministry of Agriculture, Trade and Investment (METI) recently met with representatives from the Department of Investment Promotion and Internal Trade ( DPIIT) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a video conference to address issues faced by Japanese companies in India and how they could be mitigated.

"Not only because of the ongoing lockdown, the Japanese government is concerned about the restrictions in place, but is also worried about the falling demand , particularly for automobiles, and wanted to discuss steps to help its companies," a person familiar with the meeting told BusinessLine.

According to Japanese companies in India, one major problem is the strict labor law which makes laying off workers difficult, even when output is small. "The Japanese pointed out that when the COVID-19 situation hit industry, the difficulty in reducing the workforce and also the need to retain salaries made operations unsustainable," the official said.

Since several states such as Maharashtra , Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh have decided to offer some concessions in existing labor laws, and some others are working on it, DPIIT has assured the Japanese delegation that it will continue to engage with them on this issue.

Another challenge was posed by the restrictions on the movement of workers , especially the inter-state movement of employees, the delegation noted. Such steps are necessary with companies like Maruti-Suzuki starting operations in more than one factory. "The Japanese officials were told that things would get smoother with the easing in people and goods movement in the latest phase of economic opening up," the official said.

A further demand made by the country is the lowering of customs duties on goods of interest to Japan, including inputs for its plants in India.

"India must be very careful in its decision to lower customs duties, because due to the lockdown, the domestic producers also need to be protected with their profits in doldrums," the official said.

Investments in Japan

Cumulative Japanese investments in India have been at $30,746 billion over the past two decades making it the country's third-largest investor. Japanese FDI to India has been primarily active in the automotive, electrical, telecommunications, chemical, financial (insurance) and pharmaceutical industries. It has registered as many as 1,441 Japanese companies here.
As India is trying to get back to normal with the gradual opening of restrictions, Japan has been assured that the government will continue to hold meetings and ensure that most issues are resolved, said the official.

Japan is India's 12th largest trading partner, with imports of $12.77 billion and exports of $4.86 billion in 2018–19.

Outsource Managed Services: The Smart Choice for Business Growth
https://techmatterglobal.com/outsource-managed-services-for-business-growth/ are tasks that are taken care of by a third party, most often as part of corporate IT solutions. The managed services model is a method of general outsourcing activities to a professional to minimize expenses, increase service quality, or free up internal teams to engage in business-specific chores. A managed service provider (MSP) is a firm that delivers such services. Some of the features of these services include network and infrastructure management, security, and monitoring. MSPs handle administration services regularly, allowing customers to focus on developing their services rather than stressing about long system downtimes or service disruptions. Since each business has a unique configuration, an MSP may offer a wide range of service alternatives. Technical assistance, repair, and subscription services are two categories of MSP products. The main goal of MSP technical support fix services is to remotely fix problems or dispatch professionals to a company’s site to do so. MSPs who offer this service will charge the business for the troubleshooting time and any parts necessary to fix the issue. How Outsource Managed Services Can Help Your Business Grow? More and more small businesses are turning to managed IT services in an effort to cut costs and improve efficiency. You won’t ever have to waste your time and money managing in-house IT specialists or studying the newest technological developments when you have a managed IT service on speed dial. Instead, hiring a third party with the necessary knowledge to handle your company’s IT demands is best. It’s common for business leaders to associate their IT teams with managed service providers (MSPs). They believe that by hiring one on the recommendation of their CIO or IT director, they have authorized an IT remedy. However, MSPs are more than just technical resources that can be utilized while connectivity is unavailable. Trustworthy MSPs provide the answers that companies of all kinds and all market sectors need to realize their maximum expansion potential. MSPs can utilize their IT knowledge to benefit businesses by increasing efficiency, reducing costs, and generating income. The key ways in which a outsourced Managed Service Provider can aid in the expansion of your business are as follows: 1. Increased Efficiency An MSP can help you tailor your company’s IT infrastructure to your needs. Furthermore, it is possible to create an operational environment that increases worker productivity while limiting downtime and the possibility of system breakdowns. Most of the time, your MSP can manage your infrastructure. This saves you time and makes sure that your business runs smoothly. Additionally, many MSPs provide service around the clock, although the majority of in-house IT departments need help to do so. Employees in businesses without MSPs will experience some downtime in the morning, whereas MSPs can fix an overnight network issue before the first workers arrive in the morning. Additionally, you risk losing more money and clients the longer your systems remain down. MSPs work with several clients from various industries. As a direct result, their crew has amassed a wealth of expertise concerning the various technical and business issues that call for IT solutions. MSPs can recommend and assist you in planning and installing workable solutions that can help you maximize the efficiency of your company based on their experience. 2. Cost Savings Using a managed service provider can prevent your business from paying for expensive new hires with specialized skillsets, such as cybersecurity. MSP workers can enhance your in-house staff by covering significant talent gaps. Additionally, MSPs often charge either a per-use cost model or a regular monthly price, allowing you to change the services you require as necessary. You can swiftly scale up the assistance and services required if demand increases. You can easily take a service out of your contract if you no longer need it. Businesses frequently experience significant cost savings in two other areas when partnering with an MSP. MSPs often assist organizations in locating the hardware and software they want at prices below the competition. MSPs have extensive supplier networks and can often get better prices. And because they can, they can assist you in acquiring and deploying applications and solutions that you have resisted for a long time, which can significantly influence your organization. 3. Improved Security The question of when a cybercriminal will target a firm is now the only one that remains in the modern world. And cyberattacks may be disastrous, with the physical, financial, and reputational losses frequently sufficient to drive a corporation out of existence. Even though you can’t stop someone from trying, you can make and use the right cybersecurity plan to make it much less likely that they will succeed. Furthermore, MSPs and MSSPs typically have access to advanced security tools that most firms do not have. You need to protect your company as much as possible from cybersecurity threats, which requires a combination of experience, resources, and focused time. Cybercriminals are only one threat, though. 4. Access to Expertise It’s difficult and time-consuming to hire an IT team, and you will know how capable they are once a critical network issue arises. Some people do exceptionally well on the test. It’s risky to rely on someone else to fix the problem for your business because they might need more time to do so. Even if your IT personnel are knowledgeable and familiar with your systems, you may discover that they need to be equipped to operate or maintain new equipment and techniques when they are added. The biggest problem is that even the best-trained staff members need the depth of expertise and experience of an MSP’s massive team. When your staff lacks certain areas of expertise, an MSP can help. It does not make sense to require an employee to master a new skill set to complete a one-time project. A Managed Service Provider (MSP) provides access to a group of specialists with particular expertise that you otherwise would not have. 5. Scalability The cost of keeping an IT team in-house is high, which is why you often see them understaffed, overworked, and unable to finish all their tasks because they need more time or resources. That is not effective daily and certainly not while your business is trying to grow. Even training one more employee for your IT department can cost thousands of dollars, and there is no assurance that they will stay with the company.  Network scaling requires a lot of planning, personnel, and new hardware. It is an enormous expense for any business and frequently diverts an IT team’s attention away from other crucial functions like security. Managed services can assist you in expanding or upgrading your systems as needed without the need to hire and train personnel that you may not require in the future. How to Choose an Outsource Managed Services Provider? There is a wide selection of options to choose from when it comes to managed IT service providers. Check that you can put your company’s data and security in the hands of the managed IT provider. Before committing to managed IT services, consider the following questions: What kinds of solutions does the provider deliver? What is the scale of the provider? What history do they have? There are multiple sorts of managed IT service companies. More extensive managed IT service providers operate worldwide, but smaller ones may be preferable for your business. Additionally, you should be aware of whether they offer end users 24/7 support. Finding the right managed IT service provider for your business will depend on its specific requirements. For instance, the managed IT provider should have experience in cyber security if your organization places a high priority on data security. IT services can play a crucial role in your company’s expansion by offering outstanding support that will enable you to operate more effectively and free up your time for the priorities most important to your organization. Factors to Consider When Outsource Managed Services Finding the right partner for your Managed Services needs is significant. When selecting a managed services provider, it is essential to consider the following factors: Accessibility Your IT supplier, however, should be available at all hours to monitor your network and ensure its security. Make sure your managed services provider is reachable at all hours of the day, every day of the year, before committing to any agreement. It is critical to your company’s success. Rapid response and service Your service provider must always be accessible and responsive to your requirements and issues. Ensure your IT company answers the phone and doesn’t send calls to a call center. Look for a response time guarantee. Yearly budgeting for IT A reputable managed services company will sit with you to assist with future technology planning. Ask for their guidance and experience to help you with your annual planning, and search for methods to save costs and increase productivity with technology that will help your business go to the next level. Check if your managed services supplier is proactive and considers your needs. Emergency Recovery Planning Are you ready if a weather calamity, vandalism, or other outage affects your business? A good managed services provider will assist you in making plans, preserving your data, and ensuring your company can bounce back from a jarring occurrence. Partnerships with Third Party Vendors Utilizing a managed services provider has the benefit of handling your technology providers, saving you the time required to locate several vendors for service and support. When deciding on a provider, it is essential to consider the companies with which they partner and to ensure that they have experience with the software you intend to utilize. Conclusion Your company can benefit significantly from managed IT services because they increase security, scalability, and compliance. Small business owners can now gain a strategic advantage through modern business technology and assistance, enabling you and your staff to concentrate on what matters most.
6 Proven Techniques To Save Expenses In Your Business
If you’re an intelligent entrepreneur, then you must know techniques that can help your business. Many business owners don’t spend time when their expenses are going. However, you should keep track of business expenses for small businesses, especially when you need to travel and stay in hotels regularly for work-related matters. It is tricky to do all this. Indeed, this is a precarious situation; if you’re not looking at the outgoing expenses, then there are few chances you’ll find the remedy to your problem. Businesses are always seen as the launchpad to generate money. So, even though you have put your feet in the business world, why do small-business owners waste money on things they don’t need? That’s where technology emerges as your best companions; you can use an online expense tracker that’ll keep giving you regular updates on your cash flow. According to a Business Insider report, the cash-flow problems account for more than 82 percent of small-business failures. It is nearly double the second most intrinsic factor (market need for the product). If you run a small business, you will be more likely to succeed by selling products no one wants than a weak cash flow. Reducing expenses can be tricky, though. How can you tap the investment leakage, which fees are necessary and which one isn’t? Meeting necessary expenses is like opening the gateway for earning or differentiating your business from the competition. If you’re paying a lot in the advertisement, that’ll get you rich dividends, but you instantly need to address service lines and chop expenses if you’re spending in multiple channels. 1. Bartering Services Bartering is different from paying the price of the products/services. It is all about swapping products or services. You can constantly offer them a product/service for free (or at a steeply discounted rate). An age-old practice. The idea of trading with your neighbors within your community is receiving a significant boost in the community. You can often bring a materialistic, ownership-based society with the Internet’s ability to bring buyers, sellers, and traders together and spark a wealth of new sites and communities. According to a survey, an average US household income falls behind 2000 and 2009; people explore new goods & services most affordably. Today, you’ll find various niche and large-scale sharing sites, making it challenging to find the right business needs. 2. Outsource Work To Virtual Assistants (VAs) Ideally, a virtual prospect when it comes to executing tasks. You’ll find great places to work for one-off projects like Upwork and asking for your professional work. You’ll likely know someone has a presence who needs work. Some places help deliver important projects like Upwork. It means you’ll be spending time with assistants like Robots. You’ll spend some money, but it’ll save time and is vital for your projects. Everyone has the same time, but the value of time varies from person to person. A Few Popular Platforms like: • Fiverr • Upwork • Freelancer.com 3. Try Co-working Instead Of Full Space Co-working spaces are popping up all over the world and becoming more and more popular. These aren’t just offices for millennial entrepreneurs anymore; huge companies invest in these spaces to give their employees a more laid-back place to work. Some of the more popular options are WeWork, Regus, Industrious, and there are tons of local one-off spaces. So I highly recommend you just go to Google and type in “co-working spaces” to find the nearest ones. Pros: • Avoid a long lease • Free coffee (and often beer!) • Community gatherings (sometimes including free food) • Free events • Amazing networking opportunities with other business owners in your area Cons: • It can get expensive if you have a ton of employees. 4. Buy Used Equipment Refurbished computers can be a big thing, especially when the prices are touching an all-time high. This way, you can save useful bucks, and the company will allow you to make the machine. Usually, people have some reservations about refurbished items- they are cheap because they have some hidden defects. However, it has some cosmetic differences. The only thing you have to be careful about is not going for “non certified refurbished” and ensuring you get the right quality out of it. 5. Work Out your Marketing Techniques Marketing your products is not as easy it sounds. You may find this sometimes tricky. However, when you try something, you can spend hours on either hiring someone and spending. The business expense tracker app will get you a fair idea when you get things started. That’s how your expert opinion matters. Time is changing very rapidly. If marketing is not something, you’re knowledgeable about, it makes no sense to get and spend some advice before spending. 6. Use Local Library Libraries are overlooked these days. Unless you develop a Computer Vision Syndrome or you run out of ideas. Let’s hope that’s not the case. Print media is not fading at all! You should have the taste to discover what you are looking for? Free e-books/audiobooks - Most libraries have partnerships with e-book platforms like Hoopla and Overdrive. You can even borrow many audiobooks for free as well. • Effective business guide • Space rentals • Helping with market research (yes, librarians will even do it for you) • Extracting demographics data • Popular discounts on events in your area • With podcast features, you can go ahead with audio/video support. So, if you’re keen to cut short business expenses, you first need to scrutinize operation costs using expense management software feasibility. Operating Costs: A Mirror Reflection Of Your Business Fate Operating costs are critical when it comes to managing day-to-day maintenance and business administration. It commonly refers to operating expenses, expenditures, or OPEX. The primary component of operating cost is how much you’ve invested in the price of goods sold (COGS). It is the direct cost attributed to producing business goods or services. It include things like: • Labor costs, such as payroll • Maintenance and Infrastructure Costs • Employees health insurance, pensions, and health benefits • Sales commissions • Amortization • Depreciation Knowing how to measure operating costs is important because it allows you to improve your bottom line. If you’re a for-profit business, reducing operating costs will directly impact your ROI and profitability. The Final Words: Expenses are like running water; if you do not shape its direction, it’ll overflow like anything. If you’re a budding entrepreneur, then expense management software is an excellent asset for the business. These proven methods are constructive when it comes to shaping the way of business. Skill sets have changed and are frequently changing even more. Candidates look at jobs and careers in extremely new ways now. Also, their priorities have changed and they are not even hanging out in the same places anymore. That is why traditional recruitment techniques stand miles apart from modern methods i.e., AI-based recruitment.  So what are the latest trends in AI recruiting? Traditional recruiting methods lack in the range of interaction-platforms and sourcing of talent. All recruiters had was conferences/seminars, workshops, newspaper advertisements, referrals, recruitment agencies, promotions from within the companies, internal job-boards, and intra-organizational hiring. Today, the world is open and unbounded. You can find your desired talent anywhere – on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn community, in college events, with intelligent robots trawling the web, through AI-based resume-processing, via sharp data analytics and virtual tools. The attractive part is that the candidates these days expects to meet a prospective recruiter in these cool places. Plus, recruiters now realize the value and tendency of performing workers and passive workers. They might seem too eccentric but they can be extremely suitable to add the value and productivity that the organization needs in recent scenarios. To add to that, diversity and inclusion have become essential hallmarks of today’s recruitment approaches. Imagine the number of days HR managers in the past would take to assess a pile of resumes or wait for an employment agency to serve a pool of candidates for starting interviews. Consider the money that would be spent in posting for, looking for, meeting, interviewing, influencing, and on-boarding these candidates. When you compare traditional and AI-based recruitment methods, you cannot help but notice the change. An AI algorithm can scrutinize through mountains of potential resumes or profiles in a matter of seconds, a bot can schedule the recruitment process at the tap of a finger and even take away the burden of basic interactions and orientation of candidates. New recruitment methods can shrink the entire cycle of recruitment by using AI-based and technology-driven recruitment techniques. The biggest difference in AI-based and traditional recruitment methods is the luxury of knowing whether a recruitment exercise worked. There’s no more ambiguity in recruiting with the influence of analytics and real-time information. Recruiters can know, during and post-recruitment, if the hired candidate is delivering as per expectation, suitable for the organization, productivity, performance, ability, and value. These tools help to measure the employee-side of the experience, supporting organizations to improve employee satisfaction, helpfulness, and retention rates. Data can be provided and administered at every tiny stage of the recruitment cycle, allowing recruiters to adjust and align well to changes and challenges. This data also aids an applicant know what is happening and how much time the whole process will consume. They can click a button and interact with chatbots to catch up on basic queries and supply routine assessments. The recruitment technology is evolving, and AI is fast becoming a mandatory tool in every recruiter’s toolbox. In the recent past, AI has proved that it can do a lot more than expected; its capabilities have been tested, and a lot of upgrades and improvements have come through since then. Here we will look at the biggest AI trends that are nurturing the recruitment landscape. Programmatic Job Advertising This type of job advertisement uses Artificial Intelligence to purchase, distribute, and enhance job ads. These job ads appear over the web without human interference. The Programmatic job analyzes the data captured through the market and the employer’s historical background of ad tracking to discover how the ad will perform. Following this, it makes informed scheduling and placement decisions for job ads. To make it simple, the programmatic job advertising places the true job ad, at the correct time, on the correct platform, to reach the exact candidates. Recruitment Marketing Software Recently, there’s been a slow and gradual shift from advertising to marketing in terms of staffing strategy. Nowadays, the recruitment marketing software focus on the two most vital parameters of a recruitment strategy – create tempting job ad content and build an employer brand. In today’s staffing and hiring industry, soft-selling works better in appealing to passive candidates. The recruitment marketing software converts hard-sell job ad content into something more interesting, engaging, and tempting for the targeted candidates. Interview Chatbots Chatbots have been introduced in the recruitment industry for a few years now, but their use was limited only to providing landing pages and encouraging candidates to apply for a certain job. But today, Chatbots technology has evolved and performing tasks like pre-screening candidates and even scheduling interviews. These chatbots interact in a human-sounding text conversation with applicants to collect their information, response, media, videos, and documents. These chatbots are sympathetic, instinctive, and assumptive, and they can communicate via chat, email, or text. Resume Database Filter With the help of database filtering modules, you can use your ATS resume database to filter candidates who had earlier applied for a role at your company. After successful filtering of the candidates. It checks whether this pool of candidates is a match to your current open job orders. Once the right match is found. This particular AI technology establishes contact with those candidates via social media, email, or other channels. It also looks out for their social media profiles to look for new employment history and then adds it to the candidate profile. Job Aggregators The ever-evolving job aggregators are one of the AI recruitment technologies that use bots to sneak various career sites, social channels, job boards, etc. to advertise your job posting. However, to take advantage of job aggregators, a separate URL for each job listing is required. When interested candidates navigate these job listings, they are automatically directed to the original location of the listing for the candidate to proceed with the job application. Job aggregators are also handy in checking your competitor’s listings and compare the salaries, profits, and job description content. AI-powered recruiting tools lead to more effective sourcing Using AI-powered recruiting tools helps improve the quality of candidates in your pipeline in a number of ways. In order to complete an application, a candidate must have suitable technical skills. After all, if they can’t even complete an online application. Then they may not have the right set of skills to fulfill the position. As AI recruiting performs biometrics analysis to evaluate the quality and authenticity of candidates’ responses, providing even more insight on the likelihood of a good fit. The second benefit is that AI-powered tools can filter candidates that your human recruiters may not be capable of. As a result, recruiting teams can spend more time with quality candidates, working on relationship-building and evaluating for soft skills.   AI-powered tools are efficient enough to improve the quality of the candidate pipeline by reaching passive candidates. According to recent research, 95% of candidates, recruiters try to hire are not even looking for new jobs. This is where the significance of referrals comes in, using personal social networks to spread the word about available positions. Personalized experience We’ve already mentioned the significance of chatbots, but it doesn’t end there. These days, candidates are more concerned about how they want to interact with potential employers as well. Many think the key to a great candidate experience lies in personalization. This goes past discretely addressed emails and outspreads to tools that make candidates feel special or unique. In traditional recruiting methods, only a human recruiter could offer such an experience. With the progress of AI technology outcomes, employers will be able to rely on AI-powered tools to help recruiters accomplish the same goals. Some AI tools now provide ‘real life’ conversations in text, and Google has already taken that to the next level with its voiced AI assistant that is impressive, to say the least. It’s particular to the point of connecting on a human-to-human level. Reducing Bias Unconscious bias is possibly one of the most common and hard-to-overcome difficulties to quality recruiting. If decision-making is driven by machine learning algorithms and insights. Latest trend in AI recruiting can help eliminate such biases. Thus, creating a more objective and fair hiring process. Fewer errors The lesser the human interaction, the lesser are the chances of human error. The tasks performed with Artificial Intelligence and machine learning are less likely to result in errors and more likely to improve the efficacy of the hiring process. Furthermore, with artificial intelligence recruiting, employers and recruiters can spend more time with candidates and less time doing repetitious tasks, ultimately leading to higher productivity and lower cost per hire. New employee onboarding Use of AI technology in recruitment industry can help in reducing the administrative burden of the onboarding process. Employee onboarding software also allows recruitment firms to ensure a 24/7 onboarding. AI chatbots can answer specific questions and guide applicants through the various aspects of their onboarding. As a result, new hires can integrate faster. Rerouting candidates Another new thing that AI is bringing into the world of recruiting is rerouting candidates. This means, if a candidate is not a suitable fit for a particular job. Then, they will be rerouted or directed to another company. This, firstly will help companies reach the right talent tool easily. While, secondly, will open new opportunities for candidates looking for a job, ultimately resulting in higher employment level. According to a recent survey, many companies are following this concept. Many others will join the bandwagon. In others words, the numbers are predicted to increase in future.    Click here to request a RecruitBPM ATS Product tour. This post Origionally featured at RecruitBPM's Blog

What do I need to consider when offering an employee a settlement agreement?
When offering an employee a settlement agreement, you need to consider a number of factors. These include: - The reason for the settlement agreement. This could be because the employee has been accused of misconduct, or there are concerns about their performance. - The terms of the agreement. These should be fair and reasonable, and cover things like notice period, severance pay and any non-compete clauses. - The impact on the business. Settling with an employee may avoid an expensive and time-consuming tribunal claim, but it could also damage morale among other staff members. - The message it sends to other employees. Offering a settlement agreement to one employee could make others think that they too could be at risk of losing their job, even if they have done nothing wrong. - The cost. Agreeing to a settlement agreement can be costly, both in terms of the financial payout and the time and resources required to reach an agreement. Does the package ensure that the employee is properly compensated? This includes taking into account any statutory entitlements, such as redundancy pay, and making sure that they are not left worse off financially than they would be if they were dismissed without a settlement agreement. You should also think about how the settlement agreement will affect the employee's ability to find new employment. For example, will they be able to get a reference from their current employer? Will the terms of the agreement restrict their ability to work for a competitor? Finally, you need to make sure that the terms of the agreement are fair and reasonable. If you are in any doubt about whether a settlement agreement is the right option for your business, you should seek legal advice. Do you want the employee to continue working from the date of the agreement until termination? If you want the employee to continue working from the date of the agreement until termination, you need to make sure that this is clearly stated in the agreement. You should also consider whether you need to include any restrictions on the employee's activities during this period, such as a garden leave clause or a non-compete clause. Are you including a confidentiality clause? If you are including a confidentiality clause, you need to make sure that it is clear and concise. It should state what information the employee is not allowed to disclose, and what penalties they will face if they breach the clause. Do you want the employee to sign a non-disparagement clause? A non-disparagement clause is designed to prevent the employee from making negative comments about the company or its employees. If you want to include such a clause, you need to make sure that it is clear and concise. It should state what the employee is not allowed to say, and what penalties they will face if they breach the clause. Do you want the employee to waive their right to bring a claim against the company? If you want the employee to waive their right to bring a claim against the company, you need to make sure that this is clearly stated in the agreement. You should also consider whether you need to include any restrictions on the types of claims that the employee can waive, such as discrimination or unfair dismissal claims. “Work From Home” - What COVID-19 Alert Level 3 Means For Businesses
Employsure is here to support business owners to comply with the restrictions under the COVID-19 alert levels. The Government last week outlined the details of what relaxing restrictions from Alert Level 4 would look like, and has now announced the lowered restrictions under Alert Level 3 will come into effect at 11:59pm on Monday 27 April. Alert Level 3 will last for a minimum of a fortnight, and will then be reviewed by the government, before it makes a further decision on 11 May. Business owners that want to open can spend the next week preparing to do so, e.g. get stock etc, but have been asked to stick to social distancing and their bubbles. Schools and Early Learning Centres can be accessed for cleaning, preparation and maintenance. On 28 April, teachers will be allowed into the building – students who can attend will be allowed in the next day. “For those who can work from home during this period, it will allow them to still enable cash flow into their business, while eliminating the risk of spreading the virus between potentially infected employees,” said Employsure Senior Employment Relations Adviser Ashlea Maley. “While this may not be an option for all businesses, it is still the best course of short-term action, to keep things running as smoothly as possible. “Allowing more businesses to resume operations will help reduce the unemployment rate and will allow the economy to begin to correct itself. “While it would be good to see all businesses operating as soon as possible, the risk is still too high.” What businesses are open? Under Alert Level 3, major restrictions apply to hospitality businesses like restaurants, bars and cafes, as well as retail and hardware stores. Non-essential businesses that meet safety guidelines will be allowed to operate, but transactions but must be done through an app or online portal - not be face-to-face. Contactless food delivery or click and collect services must also be adhered to. Businesses that don’t have a customer-facing function and are only accessed by staff can reopen, but staff must practise physical distancing and comply with health and safety standards. The Government’s main message to employers is to still work from home if you can. Schools will open for children up to and including year 10 but physical attendance is voluntary. Those in years 11-13 will continue to learn from home. Looking ahead: “We won’t yet know the full extent the government’s decision to lower the alert level will have on small business owners,” said Ms. Maley. “For those non-essential businesses that can’t operate from home and have to return to the workplace, these next few weeks will be the factor in deciding if the decision to relax restrictions was the right one. “If they stick to good hygiene and abide by the safety measures they put in place, I can see this as a positive step forward. “Employers should ensure all staff are abiding by the rules and should take the correct steps in maximizing safety if a worker breaches them. “The coming months will be a new test for New Zealanders, and it’s up to all of us to work together, to ensure we can come out of this on the other side.” Resource Hub For Employers: To help employers meet this unprecedented challenge, Employsure has built a free Resource Hub, containing workplace policies, communications, checklists and FAQs. All information is free for business owners and can be found at employsure.co.nz/coronavirus #covid19 #newzelandbusiness #employee
