Why would anyone want to use an eye cream? There are a number of good reasons: to moisturize and nourish the skin beneath the eyes; to reduce puffiness or bags; to erase wrinkles and other signs of aging; to soothe sun/ ultra violet (uv) damage; to erase or lighten dark circles under the eyes. Make your own DIY eye cream with just 4 natural ingredients.
Why would anyone make their own eye cream? Commercial eye creams are expensive and many contain chemicals that can irritate the delicate skin under our eyes and/ or damage the eyes themselves. In a do it yourself (DIY) eye cream, you can cull your own natural ingredients in a simple DIY eye cream recipe, like the one being shared in this article.
It requires four natural ingredients. That’s it!
– Raw unrefined shea butter
– Beeswax
– Aloe Vera gel
How can these four ingredients help our eyes? What benefits do they offer our skin? Let’s take a look.

Raw Unrefined Shea Butter

What is shea butter? It is a common ingredient found in personal care products and cosmetics.   The cream-colored fat is processed from the nuts or seeds of the shea tree. A member of the Sapotaceae plant family, the tree’s scientific name is Vitellaria paradoxa, formerly   Butyrospermum parkii. Its origins can be traced to West Africa with subspecies cultivated  throughout the continent. Once the nuts are deshelled, the fat is retrieved in a number of ways. From simply boiling the kernels in water and skimming it off to a more complex commercial enterprise, such as cold pressing. The latter ensures a raw, pure an unrefined product.
The tree, including fruits and flowers, has been used in food as well as in traditional medicine. The role of the tree nuts in hair and skin care has been celebrated by African women for centuries. As time progressed, they saw profits in a global reach (x). What nutrients in shea butter makes it an appealing and useful ingredient in a DIY under eye cream?
Nutrients in (Raw Unrefined) Shea Butter
Shea butter is exceedingly rich in vitamins A, E and K, lipids, fatty acids such as the essential linoleic and alpha linoleic acids (also called vitamin F), catechin phenols such as gallic acid, other phytosterols such as cinnamic acid and campesterol, and a few trace minerals. How do these nutrients benefit our eyes in a diy anti-aging cream?
Benefits of Shea Butter
First, be sure to get raw, unrefined shea butter. Research suggest that vitamins A, E, K, F and the phenols have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory capabilities. As an antioxidant, they may help battle signs of aging under the eyes, smoothing out wrinkles and fine lines, and fighting/ preventing damage from the sun’s uv radiation, which can lead to free radical buildup and oxidative stress in the cells. Their anti-inflammatory property may help treat and prevent under eye inflammation, which causes puffy or baggy skin. Overall, these bioactive compounds seem to have the potential to heal and repair damaged skin.
Additionally, vitamins A and E and the fatty acids may support the production of collagen, the protein necessary for elasticity and firmness of the skin. This also helps to lessen the fine lines and “crow’s feet” at the corner of the eyes. The fatty acids may also help to retain moisture, nourish, strengthen and soften the thin under-eye skin for a more youthful appearance.

Beeswax

What is beeswax? Cera alba, that’s its scientific name (x). It is a natural substance produced by female worker honey bees. Bees are members of the genus Apis. The honey bee species is called Apis mellifera. Beeswax is one of the materials they use to secure the structural foundation of their hives or honeycombs. The substance is white when first produced. But like any surface in a home, it becomes browner or yellower after it’s been there for a while. It may also have an odor depending on the bees’ country of origin. Freshly harvested beeswax must be cleaned before use.
Nutrients in Beeswax
The nutrients in beeswax mostly consist of vitamin A, fatty acids, esters and hydrocarbons. How do they help our skin, especially under the eyes?
Benefits of Beeswax
Beeswax has been used in Asian, Egyptian and even European traditional antimicrobial remedies for centuries. Research suggest nutrients may have anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties as well as the potential to heal wounds. Vitamin A as we’ve learned, may reduce inflammation that cause under eye swelling and puffiness. The vitamin also supports the production of collagen, which may aid skin firmness and elasticity. Beeswax nutrients also soothe our skin and lock in moisture for nourishment.

Aloe Vera Gel

The aloe vera plant, known scientifically as Aloe barbadensis Miller, is a perennial succulent member of the former Liliaceae and now Aloaceae family. It is at least 5,000 years old and native to Northern Africa; Egypt, according to some historians. In fact, early Egyptians titled aloe vera “the plant of immortality”.
What is aloe vera gel? What part of the plant does it come from? The gel is part of the leaves that form a rosette around a short stem. Beneath the thick skin of the leaves, is the substance we call gel. This clear jelly look-alike has a few bioactive nutrients that may be beneficial in a natural eye cream diy recipe.
Nutrients in Aloe Vera Gel
What are the nutrients in aloe vera gel? It’s loaded with phenolic compounds such as flavonoids and tannins, essential and nonessential fatty acids, polysaccharides, vitamins such as B12, and over 98 percent water. It also contains smaller pools of vitamins A, C and E and trace minerals.
Benefits of Aloe Vera Gel
Researchers found that the nutrients in aloe vera gel may offer antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and immunomodulatory properties. How do they work in a diy under eye cream? Studies show that the anti-inflammatory activities of the fatty acids, sugars and enzymes may remove under eye swelling, puffiness and redness caused by inflammation, while the antioxidant properties may treat the signs of sun damage and aging, which are related to harmful free radicals. Aloe vera’s tub-load of water helps to keep the skin hydrated and fresh. The vitamins may assure skin firmness.

Banana Powder

What is banana powder? Seems we have to thank reality star Kim Kardashian for popularizing this compound as a makeup product, according to numerous online postings, including the one cited. The powder is processed from green or unripe bananas, including the plantain variety.
Bananas are a crucial source of food for many countries, especially those in the tropical and subtropical regions. In parts of its native Southeast Asia and Africa, bananas are also used as medicine. The fruit, actually a berry, has worldwide popularity in both ripe and unripe forms. Its scientific name is Musa acuminata, Musa balbisiana or Musa paradisiaca (plantain). It is a member of the plant genus Musa. Banana powder is used in the food, health and cosmetic/ skincare industries.

Nutrients in Banana Powder
Studies indicate that bananas are rich sources of vitamins B6, B12 and C, minerals magnesiumpotassiumcopper and biotin (vitamin B7/ H/ co-enzyme), the plant protein lectin and dietary fiber.
Benefits of Banana Powder
Banana nutrients may offer several benefits. As an ingredient in eye cream, its powerful antioxidant vitamin C may help to smooth fine lines, including “crow’s feet” and wrinkles, as well as strengthen the skin by boosting collagen production. Copper too may boost collagen and add firmness. As an ingredient in a diy eye cream for dark circles, nutrients such as B12 and biotin help to reduce or erase discolorations, including sun spots, and even skin tone. Potassium may hydrate the skin.

5 Ways to Get Rid of Hyperpigmentation
Skin pigmentation can be a cruel thing. It causes the appearance of irregular random dark spots on your skin. These dark spots can affect your physical appearance by a significant margin, especially when they appear on the face. Luckily, skin pigmentation is completely controlable, and best of all, you have multiple options to choose from. The issue with this choice is the fact that there is so much information floating around. Every method claiming to be the best and is chock full of misinformation and straight-up lies. That’s why we're here to provide you with pigmentation treatment options that actually work. Ointments and creams This might seem like an obvious option to some, but many are still not aware of the fact that the market is filled with skin-lightening creams and ointments that actually work. The only thing to keep in mind is to consult a good Dermatologist before purchasing one. They might all look the same to you, but there are many chemical and structural differences between the different brands of ointments. A dermatologist will examine your exact condition and recommend the one that will work the best for you. Vitamin C Vitamin C is the most underrated treatment for skin pigmentation. Yet it is one of the most effective ones. Vitamin C, by its very nature, is a melanin reductant which is the actual cause behind skin pigmentation. It also has the ability to reduce the melanin levels in only the affected areas and not lighten up the rest of your skin. To get started, all you have to do is to cleanse your skin and massage a few drops on a regular basis, preferably daily. Keep this up for a few days, and your skin is as good as new. Lasers The use of lasers for skin-related treatments is becoming more and more common as time passes. Laser skin pigmentation reduction is one of the many treatments done by lasers today. We are now at a point where laser treatment is accurate, reliable, and, most importantly, affordable. Just make sure that the clinic that you choose is reputable and has good patient reviews. Oral supplements Even though skin pigmentation appears to be an external issue, it is deep-rooted in our biology and the internal chemistry of our body. This is the reason why things like Tranexamic acid and Glutathione are so effective against the problem. These drugs fight the underlying cause of the skin issue and eliminate it from the inside. Chemical peel The term chemical peel sounds very ominous and scary, but it’s not. It’s just a fancy way of saying dead skin removal. Our skin accumulates a lot of dead cells on the uppermost layer of our body. This is also where the dark patched reside. So, what better way to cure a problem than outright removing it. Modern-day chemical peel solutions are extremely efficient and reliable. This leaves no need for crazy long treatments and weeks and visits. Just get the chemical peel solution, and the skin pigmentation issues are gone entirely.

3 Cosmetic Treatments that Celebrities Love
Hollywood stars look picture perfect on the Red Carpet. They work hard to achieve that uber-glam look by having a healthy diet and fitness routine. But every now and then, they do get a little help from their dermatologist to refresh their timeless look. Here are the top 3 treatments that celebrities indulge in... Botox Botox is used to achieve a tight and shiny forehead, lift-up eyebrows that droop with age and get rid of the creases that occur on the outer corner of your eyes when you smile. Almost every celebrity facing the camera gets Botox at some time in their life. When this treatment is done in the correct way, with low doses, the face looks ageless. But when the dose is too much or wrongly placed, then our celebrities end up looking more botched up than beautiful! Lip Fillers Celebrities have lip fillers for two reasons. The young ones may feel insecure about thin lips and want to plump up their pout. While the older ones lose lip volume as they age and also develop whistler's lines or smoker's lines. Lip fillers are like art, or sculpture. Your dermatologist is responsible for creating a beautiful shape that looks natural and complements your facial proportions. Badly done lips are called a 'trout pout' or 'duck-bill lips' and there's nothing appealing about them. Skin Tightening Everyone of us including celebrities use anti-aging creams. But that isn't the true reason behind their tight skin. Celebrities indulge in skin tightening treatment such as Thermage, Ultherapy and Fraxel once a year. These are usually done when they are on vacation, to hide the down time. These skin tightening treatments can reverse several years of skin aging with just a single treatment session. The result is a lifted, firm and rejuvenated skin. If you wish to glam up your look consider speaking to your dermatologist about these treatment options.
5 Easy Tips to Prevent Mask Acne
You are doing your best to protect yourself and your loved ones from Covid-19 by wearing a mask everyday. But how do you protect your skin from the nasty acne breakouts that are caused by constant use of face masks? Here are some easy ways to keep your skin clear and blemish-free inspite of frequent mask use... 1. Wash fabric masks after every use Fabric masks absorb sweat, bacteria and skin care products from your skin. Always wash your fabric masks after each use. Use a non-scented, hypoallergenic detergent and let your mask dry completely before each use. 2. Wash your face regularly Continue washing your face three times a day as usual. Once in the morning, once at night and once after sweating or removing your mask. Use a gentle soap free cleanser that can remove sweat, oil and germs. Try an acne treatment salicylic acid cleanser if you already have acne. 3. Take a break from makeup Several makeup products contain silicones and other ingredients which can aggravate acne. Besides, warm air from your breath can cause makeup to melt and clog your pores. 4. Remove your mask every 4 hours In case you have long hours of mask use, then make sure you remove your mask for 15 minutes every 4 hours. Wash your hands and avoid touching your face. This would also be an ideal time to wash your face if necessary. 5. Apply an antibiotic acne cream It is common for bacteria to build up under your mask. This can lead to acne and folliculitis. You can apply an acne treatment gel containing dapsone on your skin once or twice every day. If acne persists even after these measures, then it is likely to be stress or hormone related acne. Consider talking to your dermatologist to revise your skin care routine and dietary habits.
