The Weird Road Signs Of California
@virginvingler made a pretty hilarious card earlier today of all the different road signs that are definitely worth a brow-raise. This made me think of all the strange road signs in Southern California that have become something of a major part of the local culture! Pretty much all of these signs can be seen today, so if you're interested in hunting these down yourself, you can definitely come visit California and find them yourselves! Zzyzx Road Location: Mojave Desert, Interstate 15 According to Wikipedia (yes, it has its own Wiki page): "The made-up name Zzyzx was given to the area in 1944 by Curtis Howe Springer, claiming it to be the last word in the English language." Anyone want to guess how it's pronounced? Weed, California Location: Siskiyou County When you run a town with a name like 'Weed', you've got to have a sense of humor. Needless to say, the city limit sign is the biggest dad joke ever: "Weed Like To Welcome You". Stoners LOVE passing through. Not really sure why. Immigrant Crossing Location: San Ysidro Border Crossing, Interstate 5 Yes, in San Diego, you'll occasionally see a sign warning you that illegal immigrants may be trying to flee across the freeway nearby the county's borders. This sign is so random that people outside of the state usually think it's Photoshopped. "Cross The Street, Then Update Facebook." Location: CSU East Bay campus, Hayward When this sign was posted outside CSU East Bay, its snark created something of a media frenzy. Local public info officer Frank Holland (aka the guy who made it) used to work in marketing. He also created the following: "35 - It's a speed limit, not a suggestion." "Downhill: Use eyes, brakes, brain." It seems one does not simply turn that off. Surfer Crossing Location: Pretty much any and all beach towns Live along the Southern California coastline? Chances are you've seen this sign quite a few times in a few different variations. It's become so synonymous with California life that you can also find them sold at various souvenir shops! I hope you guys got a good laugh at all the strange signs we've got around here. Do you have any weird road signs in your community? Let me know about them belowwww.
How House Swapping Works?
House Swap is often not the first thing that comes to mind when someone thinks about going on vacation. But, If you're exploring vacation packages to popular tourist destinations such as New York and Paris that could cost you thousands of dollars for a hotel room or at least hundreds to book on Airbnb, it's time to check out cheaper alternatives. What if we say, your stay can be free? Yes, it's true with a house swap. It is a practice in which two parties agree to swap their accommodation without any cash exchange. Now, here how House Swapping works, and how to get started: - Step 1: Understand home swapping Today, there are so many platforms where you can sign up, create your house listing, find and swap homes across the globe. You can peruse listings of hundreds of home swappers worldwide. You can swap in one of the two ways: a direct, two-way exchange where you can swap your house for someone else’s. The other way being the one-way swap, where you live in someone's home, while your house is empty. Since no money exchanges, you can plan long vacations, even for months, knowing that your accommodation costs won't sky-rocket with each passing day. Step 2: List your home for the swap. Don't think you’re not eligible for a home swap if your house is not in a tourist hotspot or a picture-postcard chateau. People these days are exploring all kinds of destinations to escape the crowd and finding peacetime with family. Also, it is a no-brainer to highlight all the key points that make your house special, whether it’s the private swimming in the backyard, nearby hiking trails, lovely neighborhood, or proximity to public transportation. Be sure to upload pictures of your house, highlighting how spacious and comfortable it is compared to hotels. Step 3: Have a Clear Chat Once you come across someone ready for a vacation home swap with you, it is imperative to have a chat, either over the home swapping messenger or via Skype/ FaceTime. You can also ask them to provide a video tour of their house and ask all the questions that you might have. This will help you to ease all the anxieties with regards to exchanging each other's abodes. Step 4: Tell the neighbors Once the deal is locked, let the family next door know about your travel plans, so that they're not surprised seeing another family set foot in your house. This will help you keep a tab on your swapper and leave your fellow swapper with a local to count on for any need. Step 5: Be Smart with your Valuables Have a rare selection of porcelain dolls? First-edition of novels? Or expensive crockery? Don't hesitate to keep them in secure spots. Lastly, give them a warm welcome, just like you do if your sister or a close friend comes to visit your house. So, lay in supplies for your home swapper.

Koreatown LA: Desserts, Desserts, & More Desserts!
One of my East Coast friends is flying to LA this summer and staying in Koreatown. Since I'm a San Diegan that sometimes heads up to LA on weekends, she asked me what to eat and where to go when visiting K-Town. Being that we've got a whole bunch of K-Entertainment fans on here, I figured it might be useful to list places for ALL of you - so if and when you're in California, you know where to visit to try some delicious food. I figured I'd start off with a card dedicated to some of my all-time favorite Koreatown desserts! Bingsu @ Cafe Heyri 755 S Hobart Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90005 There's plenty of places to get Korean-style shaved ice in Koreatown, but none of them have the variety of Cafe Heyri. There's traditional red bean (pat) bingsu, melon, green tea, coffee, chocolate, and - my personal favorite - seasonal fruit (pictured above)! Macaron Ice Cream @ HAUS by Coffee Hunter 3826 W 6th St. Los Angeles, CA 90020 A growing trend in dessert cafes is the ice cream macaron - an ice cream sandwich made by layering ice cream between two very big macaron shells. Not only is HAUS' version my absolute favorite, but if you're a K-Pop fan, this cafe's got massive flat-screen TVs that play all your favorite music videos while you eat! Bungeoppang @ Okrumong 3801 W 6th St. Los Angeles, CA 90020 Not only is Okrumong famous for its incredible take on traditional patbingsu, but it's also one of the few places in Koreatown where you can get a basket fresh bungeoppang - fish-shaped waffle-like breads filled with red bean - to share with friends! Animal Donuts @ Fantastic Donuts 1101 S Vermont Ave. Los Angeles, CA 90006 You can read a little bit more about these adorable donuts here, but Fantastic Donuts has become pretty Instagram popular for their cute animal and character donut designs. (However, I'd definitely also recommend their cereal-topped ones. The Cinnamon Toast Crunch one almost tastes like a churro!) Honeycomb Ice Cream @ Honeymee 3377 Wilshire Blvd. Suite 116, Los Angeles, CA 90010 I was telling my fellow So.Cal foodie @hmfong that I've never been able to check out Honeymee personally. Why? Because every time I'm in the neighborhood, there's a huge line of customers! How's that for a testament about how locals feel about this simply vanilla soft-serve topped with liquid honey and a generous REAL honeycomb on top? Mochi Ice Cream @ Mikawaya 118 Japanese Village Plaza Mall, Los Angeles, CA 90012 So I'm cheating and throwing in a Little Tokyo wild card - Mikawaya! Chances are, if you've ever had store bought mochi ice cream, it was made by the Mikawaya company. But LA is the only place where you can visit its shop and order some pretty unique mochi ice cream flavors, including plum wine, black sesame, and mint chocolate chip! So which one of these would you be down to try? Have any of you visited Koreatown and have other recommendations? Let me know in the comments below, and for more #FOODPORN, follow my brand new foodie collection #FOODPORN!
Thursday Is Donut Day!
To celebrate the incredible progress of my plastic surgery journey, which you can read all about here, I decided to call a couple friends of mine to join me for donuts this morning. WHY? Because LA donuts from random mom and pop shops are the best, and can turn any post-op rhinoplasty into something called bliss! @Butterflyblu knows all about these dreamy eats in and around LA. This time, however, I wanted to venture out to a different donut shop. One that I'd never been too. And this is what happened: Kettle Glazed! Coming from the Valley, take the 101 S. to Vine street and go East, which turns into Franklin. Just passed Argyle. If you hit Gower, you've gone too far! Turn around! I know, parking is hit or miss, but if you have to park further than you like, imagine all the calories you'll be burning, which will make diving into these nuggets of sweet heaven all the more decadent! Their Cronut is A REVELATION OF ALL THAT IS RIGHT AND GOOD. Don't skip this!!!!!!! I think this is my new hotspot for donuts. For realz. If you live in LA, and you've never been here before--VINGLE ME! LET'S GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Would you ladies care to join me for some donuts here sometime?! :) it's not a date, just a time to chill... @jordanhamilton @kaminisingh @alywoah @TessStevens @ChelseaHeyes @QueenYuki @KyotieWolf @kristenadams @Donnas @stargaze @flymetothemoon @ImUrBestFriend @galinda @Bekka @RaquelArredondo @jazziejazz @rmayra1 @prgurl4u2envy @DemiP @alannasofia @danidee @daniachicago @simplysam12 @TAIJIOTTER
History of the House Exchange Industry
Home swapping, also known as house exchange, is a type of arrangement whereby both parties agree to exchange each other's homestay. Since no monetary exchange is involved, collaborative effort is required. Home exchange covers a variety of residency types, such as holiday homes, apartments, houses, etc. It may include the exchange of the entire house or just one room. The length of swap varies from a couple of days, weekends, and even several months. However, short-term house exchange is in huge demand. These days there are dedicated home exchange websites where you can explore plenty of options across the globe. They generally charge nominal fees. A home swap deal is divided into two categories, one is the simultaneous exchange, and the other being the non-simultaneous exchange. The former includes an agreement, where you swap each other's property for a specific period,   While, non-simultaneous exchange, you can reside in their accommodation, but the other family will not come to live in your property. The home exchange concept also has a myriad of perks over the conventional hotel stay. A few of the key benefits include house swap is free, convenient, and a tremendous opportunity to explore. The History of Home Exchange The originating footprints of the home exchange take us back to 1953, when Intevac International, a group formed by European teachers who wanted to travel around the globe during the summer breaks, at economical costs. In the same year, Vacation Exchange Club in NYC was created by teacher David Ostroff. The biggest landmark year was 1999 when the growth of the home exchange industry was at 15%-20% per year. The home exchange became the theme of a popular romantic comedy "The Holiday," directed by Nancy Meyers. Live Like A Local Usually, traveling, vacations aren't just about restaurants & bars. If you want to live in a foreign location like a local, then it is best to stay in someone else's real home. You can blend with the local population. The groceries you'll cook from the local food market. Travel Light Generally, family holidays are often defined with big suitcases, sheets, clothes, and probably an entire relocation. And, frequently the accommodation doesn't always suit the family needs. Those days need not happen again Today, you can easily browse a credible home exchange website from the comfort of your home to check out the best vacation swap homes in various parts of the world. You can find a good, fully-equipped house with all the necessary stuff you need, right from sheets to kitchen essentials. So, ultimately, you'll experience the joy of traveling light, a tremendous weight lifted from your shoulders. Let's Wrap Up In the end, if you want to make your home swap successful, then you'll need to do your comprehensive research work to narrow down to a trustworthy home exchange site. You can also speak to your friends or relatives, who have recently been a part of a house exchange arrangement.
