The Bad Morning Habits That Are Ruining Your Day
It’s said that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and it’s most certainly true. The first thing you eat in the morning sets your body’s rhythm and tone for the rest of the day. The same thing is true for your other morning habits too. The things we do when we wake up can either give us a healthy boost throughout the day, or they can drag us down, causing stress and frustration. Consider these bad morning habits, and don’t let them ruin your day. Hitting the Snooze Button Don’t revel in the short bursts of sleep that you get in the early morning by hitting your snooze button. Every time you hit the snooze button, your body tries to initiate a new sleep cycle, which is a 90-minute process. When you allow your body to start a sleep cycle only to be awoken every five minutes by your alarm, you will feel more tired and groggy when you finally bite the bullet and jump out of bed. Waking Up to Your Screen Life is busy. There’s no denying the fact that we are obligated to have our phones and computers within arm’s reach during most of the day. To recoup from this tiring habit, you need to schedule screen-free time to recharge. Don’t wake up and immediately check your email. It will still be there after breakfast and the rest of your morning routine. Give yourself some time each morning to wake up, enjoy a nice meal, and prepare yourself for the da before you check out what’s going on in your digital life. This rule applies to social media and electronic entertainment too! Too Much Caffeine Ok, I’m not going to sit here and rail against caffeine. A huge percentage of us drink it, and it definitely has its benefits. So don’t think that I’m about to tell you to give up your habit. I am, however, going to ask you to avoid drinking your first caffeinated beverage before 9:00 a.m. You see, when you wake up, your body has its own hormonal process that serves to get you up and around. Cortisol and other hormones are released soon after waking, and they help you to feel energized and refreshed. When you down a cup of coffee, you’re overriding your body’s system. Instead of drinking your caffeinated beverage right when you get up, try waiting a few hours. Waiting and allowing your body to wake up naturally will give you more long-term energy and more energy when you finally do down that cup of coffee.
