Why I Don't Buy the 'Begin Again' Hype
I might be late to the party, but if you haven't see Begin Again yet - don't. Please. If you really, really must see it, stop reading this immediately. Major spoiler alert. This movie was supposed to be great. It starred Keira Knightley, Mark Ruffalo, and Adam Levine. It was set in Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn. It had a stellar soundtrack. So where did it go wrong? First things first - are we supposed to like Mark Ruffalo's character? Sure he's artistic and depressed and 'is all about the music' but he's also a drunk dead-beat dad. He only comes back to life when Keira Knightley's character sings a half-catchy tune at open mic night in a dive bar. We rewind and see why she's singing her sad song in the first place and its a classic 'dating a musician who gets famous and cheats one me' story. Oy vey. She then is convinced by this hairy drunk man (yes, that's Ruffalo) to miss her flight back to London and record a record - without a record deal, recording studio, or any money whatsoever - and sleep on her friend's floor. Of course, Ruffalo is miraculously friends with C-Lo Green who pays for the entire recording process and everything works out. And during this entire process Knightley is able to teach Ruffalo's daughter that she'll probably get more guys if she dresses like a lady and suddenly the family is back together again. Knightley then gets a record deal! Dreams come true! But then of course she blows it off because she wants to give her music away and, with Ruffalo's blessing, she uploads her songs to the interwebs and gets a whopping 10k downloads in the first week. This does not happen. Not even in this world of YouTube stars and Kickstarters. There are such things as happy endings and big breaks, but I found the story ridiculous, the characters bland, and the portrayal of independent songwriters infuriating (as someone who has been involved in the music business and plans to pursue a career on the business side) Directors and script writers - stop trying to hide your 'meh' film under Keira Knightley's talent. Even she couldn't fix this one. The only positive thing I could say is that they didn't force a weird Ruffalo/Knightley love line. Even though there was that weird 15 minute long montage of them running through Manhattan together sharing an iPod? Did I totally miss the point of this movie or do you guys agree? I'd love for someone to convince me to like this!
Former Fangirl ACTUALLY Dates Her Celebrity Crush!
It's no secret that I have a MAJOR celebrity crush on Matthew Gray Gubler. He's creative, he's outgoing, he's funny - he's basically everything I want in a guy. But at the same time, I've NEVER actually considered the possibility of us dating in real life before. Let's be real - celebrities don't date their fans. Especially their hardcore ones, right? Well, if you ask 'The Fosters' star Jake T. Austin, his answer might surprise you. Jake recently shared this intimate picture on Instagram - a candid shot of him kissing his new girlfriend, Danielle. But instead of meeting her via Tinder or at some fancy Hollywood soiree, they actually met on Twitter - as before they were dating, Danielle was a 'Wizards of Waverly Place' superfan who tweeted at him with no response since 2009. That's six whole years, you guys. Some of the tweets include the following: - "Me and @jaketaustin are getting married. Shhh =x he just doesn't know it yet ;) yes I know I'm a freak :D." - "I wanna meet @jaketaustin so badly." - "Your smile is so cute @jaketaustin.." And then there's my personal favorite: I would probably be mortified if my future celebrity boyfriend read any such tweets from me. However, they eventually got to meet in real life, which was then followed by him following her back(!) on Twitter, and the rest, they say, is history. Since the press caught onto their bizarre meeting story, Jake's been the subject of quite a few interviews, but during one with the Daily News, he assures that situations like theirs aren't as bizarre as they seem: "We're young and having fun just getting to know each other. It doesn't matter how you meet someone - on set, in a coffee shop, at school, or in the business. Sometimes you connect with people at the right moment, and you just click." So what do you guys think? Have Danielle and Jake given you some hope? Let me know in the comments below, and if you guys need me, I'll be on spamming all of Matthew Gray Gubler's social media pages in a camping tent outside his house.
Kate And Leo’s Friendship Of 23 Years is STRONG
Hollywood isn’t exactly known for its sentimentality – the ruthless nature of the film industry, along with the pressure of being in the public eye means that long-lasting friendships can be somewhat of a rarity. These two have bucked the trend, however, even with the added pressure of everyone willing their favorite on-screen couple to just do it already and get together romantically. “She’s such a terrific person in general that our chemistry naturally happened on screen. We just like each other as people,” -Leo The pair first met on the set of Titanic in 1996. Kate was 21 years old, with Leo just a year older. They portrayed such a perfect romance on-screen that the rumors about their relationship in real life inevitably began to flow. It never happened though, not officially at least! While receiving the award, she dedicated many kind words to Leo, who sat in the audience blowing kisses at her. “Leo, I’m so happy I can stand here and tell you how much I love you and how much I’ve loved you for 13 years…I love you with all my heart, I really do,” she said, with tears in her eyes. Meanwhile, Kate had previously chosen Leo to walk her down the aisle for her third marriage in 2012.  She has 2 children from these relationships and raising them was hard, given her tight work schedule. During these times, Leo even managed to help Kate with the children. Kate said, “I’m not going to tell you what we actually talk about, but yeah, we’re very, very close and sometimes we do quote the odd Titanic line back and forth to each other, because only we can, and we find it really funny.” May their beautiful friendship continue!!!
