Traditional Chinese Instruments - The huqin (胡琴)
I was surprised to learn that the huqin is not just one instrument, but an entire family of string instruments from China. There are several varieties of these instruments, including the banhu, the gaohu, the jinghu, and the zhonghu. I've heard these instruments referred to as the "Chinese violin" but I get the sense while listening to them that their sound is unique from the violin, and very beautiful.

I've always wondered what these are called when I see people playing them in the subway stations here!

@nokcha there are lots of videos out there of street performers playing instruments from the huqin family (specifically in subways, haha). I found this one to be enjoyable: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EHgNOFd8vOw
