Overcoming Prominent Travel Mistakes with House Swapping

Whether it's your first vacation with family overseas or you travel many times in a year, many of us make mistakes that cause a big headache or even ruin your entire holiday. But, the good news is, you can stay clear of many travel blunders when you opt for house swapping instead of booking a hotel room.
So, without any further delays, let's find out:-

Overpacking

Most of us tend to overpack; we do this believing some of the daily life necessities will not be available in a hotel room. However, when you travel via a home exchange, you don't have to worry about the little stuff the daily-use kitchen appliances to bathroom essentials, all bases are covered. In a nutshell, house swapping lets you pack less, and enjoy your vacation more without the burden of extra luggage.

Keeping Your Valuables Safe

When you stay in a hotel room, you often worry about your valuables, everything from your diamond ring to the passport of each member of the family. While theft doesn’t frequently occur in a hotel, it is something most travelers constantly think about. But, if you travel using house swapping, it's like staying in a home away from home. You'll have complete peace of mind that all your valuables are safe and secure. And you won’t have to carry them when you are sightseeing or hiking.

Meeting the Locals

If you really want a memorable vacation, then interacting with locals to explore new cultures and traditions is the way to go. Starting a friendship with a local may be impossible while staying in a hotel room, but when traveling via house swapping you have an entire neighborhood to talk with and get to know. You become part of the local community, making new friends.

No Stress

When you stay in a house exchange, you eliminate stress. You don't have to worry about every minute detail, such as the kids making too much noise late at night or having to return to your hotel before they lock the front door.

Bad Eating Habits

Even the fitness freaks face difficulties maintaining their diet while on vacation, and often return home bloated and feeling terrible from overeating. However, when you do a home exchange, you'll have the complete kitchen facilities at your fingertips to prepare healthy meals for your family, including preparing their favorite dishes.

Let's Wind Up

Wrapping up, housing swap isn't a complex or tedious process. All you need to do is find a reliable house exchange site where you can enroll, often for a free membership. Once you’ve joined, explore options around the world for house exchanges based on your preferences and location. The holiday exchange platform will only charge you a nominal fee after the exchange is mutually agreed to.

Antigua and Barbuda Citizenship by Investment Program & Benefits
About Antigua and Barbuda Antigua & Barbuda are twin islands that form their own country in the Caribbean Sea. In 1784, the British Royal Army claimed Antigua as a Navy base. The unbroken coral reef offered a protective barrier, while the warm winds and winding coastline offered comfort and safety. Upon declaring the country’s independence in 1981, the country became part of the British Commonwealth – formally the Commonwealth of Nations – with Queen Elizabeth II as its reigning monarch and a full member of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). Today, the tiny island of Barbuda is the nesting ground for thousands of birds. With its ever-gorgeous coral reef, Antigua is a destination for divers and explorers alike. The capital of the country, St John’s, is the island’s commercial centre. Collectively, Antigua and Barbuda boast about 365 beaches of clean turquoise waters and magnificent rainforests. The warm, welcoming breeze and beautiful vistas attract celebrities like Robert De Niro and Oprah Winfrey, who frequently visit the country. Tourism dominates the economy, accounting for more than half of the gross domestic product (GDP), which makes up around 60% of the country’s economy, and is the main industry. The economy of this country also benefits from solid financial services and agriculture sectors. As such, there are several programs and options offered to those interested in applying for their Antigua & Barbuda citizenship. Antigua is famous for its many luxury resorts as an ultra-high-end travel destination. Weakened tourist activity in the lower and middle market segments since early 2000 has slowed the economy, however, and squeezed the government into a tight fiscal corner. Antigua and Barbuda have enacted policies to attract high-net-worth citizens and residents, such as enacting a 0% personal income tax rate in 2019. Investment banking and financial services also make up an important part of the economy. Major world banks with offices in Antigua include the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) and Scotiabank. Financial-services corporations with offices in Antigua include PriceWaterhouseCoopers. Antigua and Barbuda also use an economic citizenship program to spur investment into the country. Antigua and Barbuda Citizenship by Investment Program & Benefits Antigua and Barbuda Citizenship by Investment Program (CIP) were established following parliamentary assent to the Antigua and Barbuda Citizenship by Investment Regulations of 2014. The Regulations regarding Citizenship by Investment in Antigua and Barbuda are part of Section 6 of the Citizenship by Investment Act of 2014. This act allows the government of Antigua and Barbuda to grant citizenship to persons who qualify under the criteria set by parliamentary decisions. Antigua and Barbuda Citizenship by investment is granted to qualified applicants within 4 to 5 months with no residency requirements. Once the applicant is granted citizenship, he/she becomes a citizen for life. After becoming a citizen of Antigua and Barbuda, the applicants must visit the country for 5 days at any time during the first 5 years of citizenship. Requirements To qualify for citizenship, applicants need to undergo a strict due diligence process, in addition to contributing one of the two following channels: Non-refundable contribution to the National Development Fund (NDF) Purchase of real estate in a government-approved project AND payment of applicable government fees Requirements of Antigua and Barbuda citizenship by investment To qualify for citizenship, the main applicant must be over 18 years of age, meet the application requirements, and select one of the following four options available: The purchase of real estate with a minimum value of USD 200,000 from an approved real estate project. A contribution to the National Development Fund of a minimum non-refundable amount of USD 100,000 A contribution to the University of the West Indies of a minimum non-refundable amount of USD 150,000 Benefits of Antigua and Barbuda Citizenship by Investment Antigua and Barbuda passport provides visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 150 destinations including Hong Kong, Singapore, the UK, and Europe's Schengen Area Applicants can include a spouse, dependent children under 31 (as well as their spouse and children), parents and grandparents aged 55 and over, and unmarried siblings of the main applicant. No residency requirement or interview to acquire citizenship, but a 5-day visit must be completed within the first 5 years of citizenship. Citizenship is granted for life and is irrevocable No tax obligation for non-residents Dual citizenship is allowed in Antigua & Barbuda Antigua And Barbuda Citizenship Investment Options Option 1: National Development Fund (NDF) – Non-Refundable The National Development Fund (NDF) is a non-profit fund that is subject to parliamentary oversight by way of a six-monthly report to be presented to Parliament in sufficient detail to allow for transparency and accountability. The fund will also be audited by an internationally recognised accounting firm. Donation (Up to 4 family members) USD 100,000 Donation (Family of 5+ members) USD 125,000 Single applicant Family of 4 Family of 5 or more Processing fees $30,000 $30,000 for a family of up to 4 persons $30,000 for a family of up to 4 persons with incremental payments of $15,000 for each additional dependent. Contribution $100,000 $100,000 $125,000 Due Diligence $7,500 $7,500 + $7,500 for spouse, $2,000 per dependent 12-17, $4,000 per dependent 18 and over $7,500 + $7,500 for spouse, $2,000 per dependent 12-17, $4,000 per dependent 18 and over Option 2: Real Estate Investment To qualify for citizenship under the real estate option, the government requires applicants to make an investment in designated, officially approved real estate with a value of at least US$ 400,000 plus the payment of government processing fees and due diligence fees. Single Applicant Family of 4 Family of 5 or more Processing fees $30,000 $30,000 for a family of up to 4 persons $30,000 for a family of up to 4 persons with incremental payments of $15,000 for each additional dependent. Option 1 $400,000.00 $400,000.00 $400,000.00 Option 2 – Single Investor $200,000.00 $200,000.00 $200,000.00 Due Diligence $7,500 $7,500 + $7,500 for spouse, $2,000 per dependent 12-17, $4,000 per dependent 18 and over $7,500 + $7,500 for spouse, $2,000 per dependent 12-17, $4,000 per dependent 18 and over Option 3: University of the West Indies Fund Option Antigua and Barbuda government announced in May 2020, a reduction in the contribution to the University of the West Indies Fund for large families. This option is suitable for families of six (6) or more and it entitles one applicant to a one-year scholarship that includes tuition fees at the West Indies University. Family of six US $150,000 inclusive of processing fees Additional dependents US $15,000 per applicant Antigua and Barbuda Citizenship by Investment Procedure and time frame The government authority is responsible for administering the program, and the Citizenship by Investment Unit (CIU), is responsible for processing all applications. The CIU examines the application thoroughly and, if deemed necessary, may request the applicant to attend an interview. The CIU undertakes strict due diligence checks and will decline an application if the applicant makes a false statement or omits any relevant information in the application. The documentary requirements of the Antigua and Barbuda Citizenship by Investment Program are reasonable, and the procedures are straightforward. Once the application is approved, passports can be collected in Antigua and Barbuda. It is estimated that the process will take between three and four months from the submission of the application to the issuance of the passport, assuming there are no areas of concern with the application. There is a requirement to reside in Antigua and Barbuda for a minimum of five days during the first five years of obtaining citizenship. However, the CIU has temporarily suspended this requirement due to the various travel restrictions resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. This suspension will expire on 31 August 2022. Under the real estate option, the time frame may vary depending on the project. Therefore, it is important to select a real estate project that can provide the necessary paperwork required from the developer for the citizenship application.
Koreatown LA: Desserts, Desserts, & More Desserts!
One of my East Coast friends is flying to LA this summer and staying in Koreatown. Since I'm a San Diegan that sometimes heads up to LA on weekends, she asked me what to eat and where to go when visiting K-Town. Being that we've got a whole bunch of K-Entertainment fans on here, I figured it might be useful to list places for ALL of you - so if and when you're in California, you know where to visit to try some delicious food. I figured I'd start off with a card dedicated to some of my all-time favorite Koreatown desserts! Bingsu @ Cafe Heyri 755 S Hobart Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90005 There's plenty of places to get Korean-style shaved ice in Koreatown, but none of them have the variety of Cafe Heyri. There's traditional red bean (pat) bingsu, melon, green tea, coffee, chocolate, and - my personal favorite - seasonal fruit (pictured above)! Macaron Ice Cream @ HAUS by Coffee Hunter 3826 W 6th St. Los Angeles, CA 90020 A growing trend in dessert cafes is the ice cream macaron - an ice cream sandwich made by layering ice cream between two very big macaron shells. Not only is HAUS' version my absolute favorite, but if you're a K-Pop fan, this cafe's got massive flat-screen TVs that play all your favorite music videos while you eat! Bungeoppang @ Okrumong 3801 W 6th St. Los Angeles, CA 90020 Not only is Okrumong famous for its incredible take on traditional patbingsu, but it's also one of the few places in Koreatown where you can get a basket fresh bungeoppang - fish-shaped waffle-like breads filled with red bean - to share with friends! Animal Donuts @ Fantastic Donuts 1101 S Vermont Ave. Los Angeles, CA 90006 You can read a little bit more about these adorable donuts here, but Fantastic Donuts has become pretty Instagram popular for their cute animal and character donut designs. (However, I'd definitely also recommend their cereal-topped ones. The Cinnamon Toast Crunch one almost tastes like a churro!) Honeycomb Ice Cream @ Honeymee 3377 Wilshire Blvd. Suite 116, Los Angeles, CA 90010 I was telling my fellow So.Cal foodie @hmfong that I've never been able to check out Honeymee personally. Why? Because every time I'm in the neighborhood, there's a huge line of customers! How's that for a testament about how locals feel about this simply vanilla soft-serve topped with liquid honey and a generous REAL honeycomb on top? Mochi Ice Cream @ Mikawaya 118 Japanese Village Plaza Mall, Los Angeles, CA 90012 So I'm cheating and throwing in a Little Tokyo wild card - Mikawaya! Chances are, if you've ever had store bought mochi ice cream, it was made by the Mikawaya company. But LA is the only place where you can visit its shop and order some pretty unique mochi ice cream flavors, including plum wine, black sesame, and mint chocolate chip! So which one of these would you be down to try? Have any of you visited Koreatown and have other recommendations? Let me know in the comments below, and for more #FOODPORN, follow my brand new foodie collection #FOODPORN!
A Blissful Place for Manga Lovers!
For the longest time I only have one reason for visiting Japan. Nope, it's not for food. Nope, it's not for fashion. Yes. It's for hot spring! I may look an average 20 something gal but I'm a grandma at heart. I've been told that many times because of my peculiar lifestyle. I love jacuzzi and hot spring is one of the thing I've always wanted to try after watching dramas that features this fabulous chamber. Even though I really wanted to visit Japan I didn't think hot spring would justify the trip because Taiwan also have hot spring. The ticket and accommodation in Taiwan is more budget-friendly than Japan. It was not until today I found another reason to go visit Japan. Books & Bed This concept is really intriguing. Though, I don't openly express it, I'm a manga girl at heart. Throw me in a room with a bunch of manga and I will be more than happy to read them. This is place is truly a gem for book lovers and someone who appreciates minimal architect. At Book and Bed Hostel you get a beautiful view of the city at night and get unlimited access to book in their library until your eyes become drowsy. The industrial interior design is filled with cement walls, wooden bookshelves and wooden single beds. Obviously, it's not a place for you to get a comfy pillow and cozy bed. If you are solo or duo traveler, this is the type of place that will bring you a blissful evening. What more do you want from a short vacation getaway than a place to sleep and get inspired? Anyone else feel the same way?
Art Field Trip: Japanese American National Museum's Hello Kitty Exhibit in LA
Yesterday, my friends and I were able to visit the Japanese American National Museum's Hello Kitty retrospective, "Hello! Exploring the Supercute World of Hello Kitty", which opened in the LA-based museum last month. Running through April 26, the exhibit celebrates everything Hello Kitty to commemorate her 40th anniversary. From backpacks and notebooks to toasters and even motor oil, the variety of products that have featured Sanrio's most iconic character is seriously staggering. Here, you get to see some of the most impressive of these. You even get to see Hello Kitty outfits and accessories once worn by celebrity Kitty fans ranging from Cameron Diaz to Katy Perry. (You can even get up close and personal with a Lady Gaga performance dress made of nothing but Hello Kitty stuffed toys!) But perhaps my favorite part of the exhibit is a complete art gallery filled with paintings, sculptures, and interactive works all inspired by Hello Kitty. The artists featured represent both American and Japanese artists, and include such popular ones as Audrey Kawasaki, Gary Baseman, D*face, and Yoskay Yamamoto. Check them out in the attached pictures! Photo 1: The 'halfway point' of this two-story exhibit Photo 2: "Hi Kitty", Audrey Kawasaki Photo 3: "Much Loved Kitty", Mark Nixon Photo 4: "Uh Oh Kitty Ho", D*Face Photo 5: "Hello Kitty Kaiju", Mark Nagata Photo 6: "Space Kitty", Yoskay Yamamoto Photo 7: "Melty Kitty Dream", Buff Monster Photo 8: "Hello Kitty in Bloom", Michael Courville Photo 9: "Play Date", Gary Baseman Photo 10: "Hello Lincoln", Scott Scheidly
Park-Hopping Around St Louis and Greater Missouri
Whether you’re an avid walker, or simply like seeing a variety of environs when you travel, national parks offer a unique opportunity to experience natural areas as they once were. They’re especially good for those on longer trips who need peaceful places to spend their time, or for parents traveling with young kids who have boundless energy. Considering the national parks in your next travel destination, be it St Louis or elsewhere, can help ensure that you have plenty of breaks on your trip. St Louis is well-known for its history, architecture, delicacy, and science facilities, but for some reason not for its parks, of which it has many. From the Forest Park in convenient proximity to the luxury hotels in St Louis to those in the Greater Missouri area, there are plenty of national parks to explore. Here’s a look at some of the more popular ones, and what you can do at them. Forest Park This massive natural space is a stone's throw away from the luxury hotels in St Louis and is home to all kinds of environs and facilities promoting the protection and preservation of flora and fauna. There is something for everyone here, including: - The St Louis Zoological Park, a nationally-acclaimed zoo - The Jewel Box, a glasshouse garden - Always Animals, the largest sculpture in any public zoo in the US - Various themed playgrounds, such as the Turtle Playground with turtle sculptures and the Nature Playscape which is a natural playground Beyond this, there’s also 4 museums, art galleries, spaces for performing arts, and so much more. Forest Park is a must-see for everybody visiting St Louis. Creve Coeur Lake Park Hosting the biggest oxbow lake in Missouri, the Creve Couer Lake Park is also the biggest national park in St Louis County. Perfect for water-based activities such as boat races, paddle boarding, and rowing competitions, it’s also located quite handy to St Louis and can make for the perfect day trip. Mastodon State Park Also known as the Kimmswick Bone Bed, this one's for fans of paleontology as this site has the first solid evidence of the coexistence of humans and the American mastodon in eastern North America. There are plenty of hiking trails that run through the park, with information planted around in convenient locations, and a creek that runs through the middle perfect for wading in on those particularly hot days. LaBarque Creek Conservation Area If you’re more into the geological side of nature, then the LaBarque Creek Conservation Area will be right up your alley. Wet-weather waterfalls and unique sandstone formations are the highlights of this park, although you may also bear witness to the 40 breeding bird species or over 400 native plant species. Hawn State Park Orchids and birds seem to be nature's most creative expressions, and they are the defining features of the Hawn State Park. Expect expansive views, plenty of opportunity for bird-watching, and wild orchids to take your breath away while you explore this state park only an hour out of St Louis. The Castor River Shut-Ins With 1.5 billion-year-old pink granite shut-ins decorating this river, this is another paradise for fans of geology. It’s also a local-favorite spot for fishing, with shadow bass and sunfish free for the taking year-round, and black bass having their own season. People regularly report being the only one they see there, so be sure to check this out if you’re a fan of privacy and peace. Bonne Terre Mine Once upon a time, this mine produced the world’s largest supply of lead ore, nowadays it’s better known as the world’s largest freshwater diver resort. With depths of 40-60 feet and year-round water temperatures of 58 degrees, there are always dive tours ready to take you to the freshest depths. Alley Spring While it is 3 hours from the luxury hotels in St Louis, the trip is always reported as worth it by those who venture out to see the Alley Spring. The seventh-largest spring in Missouri, Alley Spring’s conduit goes 3000 feet into the earth, expelling fresh water at a brisk 58 degrees year-round (like the mine). You’ll find a range of water-based activities here, including canoeing, tubing, swimming, fishing, and also the chance to ride a horse around the beautiful area. These aren’t the only natural wonders in and around St Louis, there’s plenty more to see and do when you ask around. Be sure to contribute to all local efforts to preserve local wildlife if you’d like to see more of it, and of course, enjoy.
