Pride and Prejudice is pretty much exclusively considered to be Austen's most popular work, and because of this, it has inspired a number of movies, books and stories that recreate it's plot. My absolute favorite movie re-imagination of Pride and Prejudice is definitely a bollywood-inspired version--amusingly titled "Bride and Prejudice." This movie has all the key characters: Elizabeth, Darcy, Bingley and more. What changes is the backdrop: instead of being set in England, we are instead in modern day India, following a mother trying to find husbands for her daughters. Because of the change of location, the story gets some appropriate updates. We find Elizabeth to be renamed as Lalita, Mr. Darcy disagreeing with the tradition of arranged marriage, and Lydia, dubbed Lucky in this version, still rebelling against home. As if that wasn't enough to make the movie interesting, it's also been converted into a musical. Yes, a musical version of Pride and Prejudice. What would a bollywood movie be without good musical numbers? Bride and Prejudice is full of songs, dancing, and colorful outfits as Jane Austen's classic novel is brought to India. Intrigued yet? Check out the movie trailer to see just how funny, colorful and updated this version of Austen is!
