I have students who don't love to read. I can usually sell them on The Face on the Milk Carton series and know that they will continue reading the series all school year. What would you think if you saw your face in one of those missing children ads on a school milk carton? If you can suspend disbelief that Janie makes it to high school without ever seeing a milk carton (her "parents" tell her she's allergic,) it's an interesting premise. Should she go back to her real family, a middle class one with loads of kids, or stay with the parents she's always known, in her comfortable house living next door to her boyfriend?
