BTS Fire and WTF Is Tropical House?
Alright y'all, we're going to talk about a topic that affects each and every one of us: TROPICAL HOUSE. It's a subgenre of house music that is influenced by instruments such as steel drums usually used in Jamaican, Cuban, etc music. It's been getting more and more popularity these days but I was still surprised to hear it in at BTS song! It is most noticeable in Rap Mon's part at 2:15. That awesome sound in the back? That's classic Tropical House music! Here are some more examples if you dig that sound: Jeremih - Don't Tell 'Em Thanks to @Lizzeh for reminding me about this awesome example!!!! Justin Bieber - Sorry & What Do You Mean Beibs made his comeback completely backed by this music. It sounds fresh, fun, and you CAN'T STOP LISTENING TO IT. Kygo - Stay Often referenced as the king of the rebirth of TropHouse, Kygo is your go-to DJ if you want nothing but Tropical House in your ears. Skrillex and Diplo - Where Are Ü Now This was the song that really brought the sound to mainstream recently. Those "dolphin sounds" or however you choose to describe it...yup, TropHouse. Fifth Harmony - Worth It & Work It's leaking into the girl group pop scene too with Fifth Harmony using an almost 8-bit take on Trop-Pop. Still groovy. Jamie XX - Loud Places And then we have Jamie XX that combines his smooth sleepy sounds from the XX with the catchy pop of Tropical House. Needless to say, it was love at first listen. Even though it has existed for a long time (and the influences that inspired existed looooooooooong before) I'm glad to hear more of it now in mainstream music! Enjoy!

6 Sh*tty Realities of Lifting Weights
The great thing about lifting weights is that you end up with a rockin' body. But sometimes lifting weights isn't as glamorous as the fitness magazines make it to be. Sure, the results can be gratifying, but the journey might be...awful. You Will Get Stronger That 5 pound bag of potatoes you grab at the grocery store will all of a sudden start feeling really light. Buying Clothes Will Suck Sometimes lifting weights builds incredible legs and glutes. But what that means is that you'll stop wearing regular jeans, and start wearing jeggings that brings even more glory to those perfectly sculpted glutes. Oh, the struggle! Stares Will Increase You already spend a generous amount of time mirin' your body at the gym, but you'll soon realize that everyone wants to stare at you too. You can feel their jealousy burn as they stare at your muscle striations in your arms. You'll Be Able To Bring in Groceries in One Trip Remember the time you used to make several trips to the house with groceries? Sorry, looks like you're going to make your life easier by just taking one trip. You Get To Eat More Food Oh god this is the worse. Because you lift weights heavy and often, your appetite is going to increase A LOT. Cheesebugers, steaks, cakes, and protein shakes -- you get to have them all, and you get to enjoy every damn calorie you worked hard to burn. You Get A New Fam: The Gym Fam All though gym rats become your new fam. They may bother you for a spot, for support, or to just show you all the damn love when you're about to max out on bench.
Katherine Langford
Katherine Langford (born 29 April 1996) is an Australian actress. She is known for starring as Hannah Baker in the 2017 Netflix series 13 Reasons Why (2017), based on the novel of the same name, for which she received a Golden Globe Award nomination. In 2018, she appeared as Leah Burke in the romantic comedy-drama film Love, Simon (2018). Early life Langford was born in Perth and raised in Perth, Western Australia. She is the eldest daughter of Elizabeth Langford, a pediatrician, and Stephen Langford, a flying doctor and director of medical services at the Royal Flying Doctor Service Western Operations. She began voice lessons in 2005, and received classical, jazz, and contemporary vocal training. She was offered a place at Perth Modern School for her senior high years, where she studied music and drama, and was sports captain and a nationally ranked swimmer. Katherine Langford – “Le Defile L’Oreal Paris 2021” : Runway – Paris Fashion Week Initially during her time at high school, Langford was interested in medicine and politics, in addition to musical theatre. However, in 2012, when Langford was 16, she attended Lady Gaga’s concert, the Born This Way Ball, which inspired her to learn how to play the piano. She shared video of herself singing three original songs she wrote: “I’ve Got a Crush on Zoe Bosch,” “Young and Stupid,” and “3 Words.” “Young and Stupid” is an anti-suicide song she wrote in 2013 after three Perth teens took their lives. For her final year at Perth Modern, Langford stopped swimming and switched her focus to music and performance. She was successful in a number of musical eisteddfods and drama competitions. Langford appeared in the school’s production of Hotel Sorrento in 2013 and graduated that same year. After graduating high school, Langford was determined to become an actor. However, she was rejected from every acting school she applied to, on the grounds she was too young and did not have enough life experience. This led her to begin enrolling in acting classes and workshops in Perth, juggling three part-time jobs, and later finding herself an agent. From 2014 to 2015, Langford studied at the Principal Academy of Dance & Theatre Arts, majoring in Music Theatre, and appeared in a production of Godspell. She was then one of five selected to participate in the National Institute of Dramatic Arts Advanced Actors Residency in 2015. In the same year, she trained at Nicholson’s Academy of Screen Acting and portrayed the role of Juan Perón’s mistress in the 2015 production of Evita. Langford was offered a position in the Bachelor of Arts program in Acting at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts and intended to begin studies in 2016. However, she never enrolled and instead pursued professional roles. Career Langford appeared as the lead character in a small independent short film, Daughter (2016) which debuted at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival. At the end of 2016, after declining the offer from Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, Langford auditioned and was asked to test for Riverdale, and Will, a television series centered on the young life of William Shakespeare. She did not get either role, which were instead given to Lili Reinhart, and Olivia DeJonge. Langford auditioned for the role in the mystery teen drama TV series 13 Reasons Why over Skype and had only 10 days to get an O-1 visa as she had not worked in the United States before. She has received critical acclaim for her portrayal of the American high school student Hannah Baker in 13 Reasons Why. Langford researched the role, speaking with a representative of the sexual assault awareness campaign “It’s On Us” and a psychiatrist who specializes in adolescence. In December 2016, she signed with the William Morris Endeavor agency. In 2018 Langford appeared in her first feature film, Love, Simon, an adaptation of the coming-of-age novel Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda, by Becky Albertalli. Katherine Langford – ‘Knives Out’ European Premiere In 2019, Langford co-starred in Knives Out, a murder mystery film. The ensemble cast received critical acclaim, and she was part of various awards and nominations for the role, which included a Critics’ Choice Award nomination for Best Cast. In 2020, she starred in the film Spontaneous, a well-reviewed, dark comedy for which she received a Critics’ Choice Super Awards nomination for Best Actress in a Science Fiction/Fantasy Movie. On 12 September 2018, it was announced that Langford had been cast in the web television series Cursed. [Ladies' Week] Dara Torres - "Age is Just a Number"
So, @shannonl5 planned this awesome event, "Ladies' Week" (check out ~Announcing: Ladies' Week Event!~ just in case you haven't heard about it!). And in celebration of this awesome event, I wanted to start out with a female athlete that has inspired me: Dara Torres! Just in case you guys have never heard about Dara Torres, she is a former competitive swimmer who is also a twelve-time Olympic medalist and a former world record-holder in three events (50-meter freestyle, 4x100-meter freestyle relay, and 4x100-meter medley relay). But her medals and world records don't capture her whole story. There's more. Torres has competed in five different olympics: 1984 Los Angeles, 1988 Seoul, 1992 Barcelona, 2000 Sydney, and 2008 Beijing. That's right. Five different Olympics over the span of twenty-four years. She was 17 when she competed in her first ever Olympics and she took home a gold medal. She was 41 when she competed in her last one and took a silver medal home. Her life was definitely something you would not call perfect. She was already the oldest member on the U.S. swim team at the age of 33 during the 2000 Sydney Olympics. She could not get pregnant at the age of 35. She was divorced twice by the age of 37. She had her first daughter at the age of 39. Her father also passed away that same year. But as Torres put it perfectly, "But when I was 41 and I woke up in a dorm in the Olympic Village in Beijing, I didn’t feel old. I felt merely—and, yes, happily—middle-aged. ‘The water doesn’t know how old you are.’" For her, age was just merely a number and her dedication and passion for swimming gave her the courage to try out for the 2008 Summer Olympics despite the personal barriers she faced. Torres wasn't quite finished though. After the 2008 Olympics, she underwent a knee surgery, but jumped back in the pool as soon as she was ready to swim once again. And she competed in the U.S. swimming trials to earn a spot on the 2012 London Olympics team for the 50-meter freestyle. She however was denied a spot. Jessica Hardy won first place with 24.50 seconds and Kara Lynn Joyce took the remaining spot. Dara was nine-hundredths of a second behind her sixth Olympics. She was 45 at the time. Even though she did not make it for the 2012 Olympics, she had no regrets, because she gave everything she had. She simply hugged her daughter, Tessa, and congratulated her fellow swimmers. [Video: 2008 Beijing Olympics Women's 4x100 Freestyle Relay Final/Torres's Last Olympic Medal] She has been such an inspiration for me and people all around the world. We sometimes put a limit on ourselves without even giving our best shot. Torres however never, ever made any excuses and simply focused on achieving her goals. I would like to end this card with my favorite Torres quote: "You don't have to put an age limit on your dreams."
